25.01.2022 Happy Spirit Day! Around the world, the challenges young LGBTIQA+ people face growing up are as unique and complex as they are. In Australia, according to Beyond Blue, Young LGBTI people with a history of verbal, sexual and/or physical victimisation and abuse have higher levels of social and mental health problems than heterosexual young people including sexual risk-taking, dangerous use of alcohol and drugs, dropping out of school, homelessness, self-harm and attempted sui...cide. At ChillOut we believe that as a community, we have a role to play in helping these young people grow and thrive. This is why we started our Raising Rainbows initiative, to empower LGBTIQA+ youth in regional areas to be proud of who they are and feel safe in their community. By installing rainbow flags at schools we aim to raise awareness, educate and ultimately reduce the instances of LGBTIQA+ related bullying in regional schools and communities. We believe that together we can create a world that celebrates and supports all young people, no matter who they are and whom they love.

25.01.2022 Do you support LGBTI+ youth in the community? Do you want to hear from young people on how to improve referral pathways and access to your service? Want to find... out more about young people's views in terms of the challenges of being LGBTI+ in the country? As part of our Out of Home Care Rainbow Youth Project we will be running a workshop on Tuesday the 29th of September. Details below please register at: https://bit.ly/2RxvnTF

24.01.2022 Invisibility or active erasure has a great impact on the health of bisexual people. Research has consistently shown that mental health for bisexual people is poorer than for heterosexual, gay or lesbian people. Bisexual people report heightened feelings of isolation, anxiety, distress and self-doubt. Often people who are bisexual feel pressure to choose either gay or straight identities and thus supress what they experience as their sexuality. This is why Bi Visibility Day is... so important and why bisexual awareness matters. You can help stop bi erasure by practicing active bi inclusion in your workplace, community groups and your personal life. Let’s make it easier for the next generation of bisexuals to be out, comfortable, and proud of who they are. Bi Visibility Day 23rd September 2020

17.01.2022 The term ‘bisexual’ is used to describe a person who experiences emotional, romantic and/or sexual attractions to, or engages in romantic or sexual relationships with, more than one sex or gender. It is important to understand that everyone has a different experience of bisexuality. Level of attraction to different genders can vary and sexuality is fluid and can vary over time. Bisexuality is a diverse sexual identity because people within the bi+ community define it in vario...us ways. Some identify as bisexual, while others use pansexual, queer or fluid or no label at all to describe their attractions to more than one gender. This is why Bi Visibility Day is so important. This is why bisexual awareness matters. You can help stop bi erasure by practicing active bi inclusion in your workplace, community groups and your personal life. Let’s make it easier for the next generation of bisexuals to be out, comfortable and proud of who they are. Thank you for this amazing graphic @Shiri Eisner http://bidyke.tumblr.com and the Bisexual Resource Centre.

15.01.2022 For all our Bi+ community and allies.

15.01.2022 Today is Bi-Visibility Day! A study by Stanford University in 2019 found that only 19% of bisexuals come out. Their reasons for not disclosing it don't arise from confusion, but rather they don’t come out because they fear rejection from their partners and ostracism from their families, friends and communities. This is why this dayBi Visibility Dayis so important. This is why bisexual awareness matters. You can help stop bi erasure by practicing active bi inclusion in your... workplace, community groups and your personal life. Let’s make it easier for the next generation of bisexuals to be out, comfortable and proud of who they are. Thank you to Rainbow Youth NZ, Stanford University & Pew Research Centre.
