22.01.2022 When we are young its easy to take our flexibility for granted but as we age our flexibility decreases due to wear and tear and injuries. A decrease in range of motion and flexibility can result in further reduction of spinal health. For example, an injury or degenerative condition that causes pain, swelling and stiffness, may limit our flexibility and range of motion. When this happens, we tend to avoid activities that involve the affected body parts, either consciously or ...unconsciously. By doing so, our muscles weaken and become tense, further reducing range of motion and flexibility. Without regular exercise, the muscles and joints stiffen, adhesions and scar tissue can form, and mobility is further reduced. A chiropractor uses spinal adjustments and manipulations to realign the bones and joints so as to reduce pain, restore range of motion, and improve flexibility, balance, and coordination. Your chiropractor can also recommend specific exercises that can be done at home to increase strength and flexibility so that youre able to maintain and build upon the benefits received from chiropractic adjustments. Remedial Massage also helps to relieve tight muscles and improve flexibility and joint mobility. As we get older, our bodies stiffen up from both age and lack of use. Regular treatment can help maintain the body, so that it stays in good working order. Whether its in your backyard or at a local park, its important to get fresh air, sunshine and exercise daily. Regular exercise is important for overall health and wellness. 14.01.2022 The nervous system is the control system of our bodies. It is made up of the central nervous system (CNS) that is the brain and spinal cord and the peripheral nervous system, which consists of nerves that connect your CNS to the rest of your body. The nervous system along with the endocrine (hormonal) system works to control all activities within the human body. It does this by communicating messages between the brain and the body very quickly using nerve impulses. Subluxati...ons are interferences or disturbances in our nervous system that interrupt the normal communication pathways in your body when there is incorrect alignment of the joints. Each region of the spine protects the nerves connected to certain areas and organs. If a joint has a subluxation, the messages from your CNS may be disrupted when travelling through your peripheral nerves to their destination. Meaning the effectiveness of our body's communication network is hindered. For example, the nerves protected by the T6 vertebra are linked to the stomach. Thus, if T6 has a subluxation you may experience stomach troubles, like indigestion and heartburn. For more interesting examples of how our spinal health is linked to our overall health and wellness below is a spinal nerve chart below detailing the organs associated with each of our spinal vertebrae. If you are looking to improve your spinal or overall health, book an appointment with one of our experienced Chiropractors. Call us on 3369 0110 or book online at www.chiropractix.com.au

12.01.2022 Hiking is a free form of exercise that is also incredibly versatile and great for your spinal health. It increases circulation, mobility, flexibility, strength, re-hydrates spinal discs, and helps improve overall fitness. Hiking is also a weight bearing exercise so it increases bone density, preventing osteoporosis. This kind of exercise strengthens your muscles while keeping you flexible with a better range of motion. Chiropractic supports this by keeping the spine aligned ...correctly so that the joints all work as they should. When your body is in correct alignment, you dont have pressure on your joints, and muscle groups arent working when they shouldnt. Tips for a great hiking experience Chose stable and supportive shoes. Make sure they fit well and allow your foot and ankle to function as they should. Warm up and stretch for a few minutes before starting your hike. This can improve your performance and prevent injury. If hiking is new to you, chose an easy trail to begin with. As you become more confident you can tackle more challenging terrains. Poles can help with balance or include your upper body in the workout. If you are hiking a more challenging trail, take a friend to keep you motivated and have your back. Getting adjusted before you hike restores strength, balance, coordination and flexibility required to meet your goals. Before you head out on your next hike through Queenslands beautiful landscape, dont forget to book a chiropractic appointment to ensure your body functions the best it can. 10.01.2022 Our bodies are comprised of many systems that work together in order to function. The muscular system, for example, is comprised of soft tissues like muscles, ligaments and tendons which allow the bones and joints of the skeletal system to move. There are several benefits to receiving regular massage and chiropractic care in tandem as they work hand in hand to maximise the effectiveness of each treatment. Chiropractors diagnose and provide treatment for back and neck pain as ...well as disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous system. Vertebral subluxations are common areas of treatment for chiropractors. They are regions within your spine that become misaligned or lose movement which can put pressure on the nervous system. Adjustments aim to correct subluxations, restore joint mobility and reduce nerve compression. . Remedial massage is greatly beneficial for sports performance, muscle tension, rehabilitation and relaxation. Massage therapy relaxes the muscle tissue, reducing muscle contractions that can contribute to nerve compression. Massage can also increase range of motion, ease of mobility and joint flexibility. Having a massage alongside your chiropractic treatment helps to enhance healing and recovery through combined treatment of the nervous system and musculoskeletal system. Call us today on 3369 0110 or visit our website www.chiropractix.com.au to book chiropractic and massage appointments to improve your overall health.

09.01.2022 It's very common for chiropractic patients to hear popping sounds when having their spine and joints adjusted. While it may seem concerning, it is actually a very normal and no reason to worry. An explanation of how our joints work helps form a better understanding of why this happens. Our bodies have common joints called diathrodial joints which have two surfaces covered in smooth cartilage. This is enclosed in a joint capsule containing lubricating fluid and nutrients like ...oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide. These nutrients are essential for maintaining healthy joints and normal and smooth range of motion. Trauma and stress to the joints cause gases to form between the joint surfaces. The popping sound heard during a chiropractic adjustment is the sound of those gases being released as the joints are being realigned. Some things to note: This does not mean that if you do not hear an audible pop, the joint has not been realigned. Sometimes the pop is imperceptible or sometimes there was not sufficient gas built up in the joint to make the pop. The absence or presence of the pop also does not determine the effectiveness of the adjustment. Popping sounds made by joints outside of an adjustment with a licensed chiropractor do not indicate that your joints have been realigned. It is never a good idea to push your joints beyond your normal range of motion in order to achieve a pop. If you find that your joints are popping more frequently than usual, or that your joints are stiff or painful it's a good idea to book an appointment for an examination and adjustment with one of our experienced chiropractors. 04.01.2022 What is a Vertebral Subluxation? Vertebral Subluxation is when a vertebra has lost its normal position in relation to the vertebra on either side. When a vertebra does not function properly within the spinal framework there is mechanical stress that accelerates wear and tear of the surrounding spinal muscles, ligaments, discs, joints and other spinal tissues. Other symptoms may follow including: pain, tenderness, inflammation, decreased spinal mobility and muscle spasm. Becau...se of the direct mechanical and physiological relationship between the spinal column and the spinal nerve roots, vertebral subluxations, as well as other spinal abnormalities, have the potential to impair proper nerve functioning.Once nerve functioning is compromised, communication within the body becomes less effective jeopardising the overall health and wellness of the individual. Subluxations can have a variety of different causes which will usually fall into one of three Categories. Mechanical causes include trauma or injury, repetitive motions, poor posture, improper workplace set up or imbalanced muscles around the spine. Chemical causes include poor dietary and nutritional practices, drug and alcohol use and abuse, and the ingestion of chemical toxins in the foods we eat, air we breath, and water we drink. Chemicals which are harmful to the body decrease the body's ability to function optimally and reduce the ability to successfully adapt to and withstand internal and external stresses - making us more susceptible to spinal subluxations and the consequences of these subluxations Emotional causes refer to stress. Excessive stress or inadequate stress management skills can deplete the body of the ability to sustain normal functions. The impact of emotional stress on physical health is well documented in the medical research and can have devastating effects on the immune system, making the body susceptible to injury and disease. The only accurate way to determine if you suffer from subluxations is to receive a chiropractic evaluation. However, some indicators are pain, swelling or stiffness in joints, tightness and weakness in muscles, reduced mobility, numbness and tingling, to name a few. That being said, feeling pain-free does not mean you are subluxation-free. It's important to have regular check ups, regardless of pain, to identify and correct subluxations before they can have a negative effect on your overall health. To book in with one of our fully qualified and experienced chiropractors call us on (07) 3369 0110.

04.01.2022 What is N-acetyl cysteine? N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) is an amino acid used by the body to build Glutathione, a powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants protect and repair cells from damage. Why do people take NAC?... As a prescription drug, doctors use NAC to treat acetaminophen (Panadol) overdose. It may also help break up mucus in people with some lung diseases, like chronic bronchitis. There is evidence it can help prevent liver and kidney damage caused by some drugs. NAC is a potent heavy metal chelator to help eliminate heavy metals from the body. NAC may help prevent colon cancer in people with some types of colon polyps. It may help with pain reduction, infertility, the flu, HIV, cystic fibrosis, liver disease, angina, high cholesterol, and some eye conditions. Can you get NAC naturally from foods? No, NAC cannot be found in foods. Good news! We are now stocking NAC in the clinic. If you have any questions regarding NAC please contact us at [email protected].
