25.01.2022 PANCAKE SPLITS PROGRESS || Today, I kissed the ground, "pancake splits style" I know it was a 'passive' splits achievement, but I've never been able to do splits! Get this! I'VE HAVEN'T STRETCHED IN NEARLY 10 YEARS! All my pancake splits mobility work this year have been "active" mobility exercises...not "passive" stretches. All based on scientific principles.... By 31st Dec 2018, I should be able to do 'active' pancake splits...hopefully AKA without someone pushing me flat as a pancake ____________BACK, HIP & KNEE PAIN RELIEF____________ As suggested in a literature published in the International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy that ehancing MOBILITY in the soft tissue of the HIP is the key component in treating pain of the back & lower extremity, such as the knee [1][2] The training process is a "set of artificial stimuli set upon the body to elicit morpho-functional-adaptations" (Verkhoshansky). 22.01.2022 STANDING SPLITS & PANCAKE SPLIT || I've never been able to do splits (as you can see from 1/1/18). I DID NOT STRETCH to achieve this. I strengthen We WERE all flexible! Look at babies...you can bring their toes to their head without any training.... There is NO muscle that JOINS both legs (femur) together Each femur has its own group of muscles. So technically you should be able to do splits. However, if you haven't done splits in years your body adapts to your usual joint range (i.e. no splits) & LEARNS LIMITED JOINT MOBILITY. Your CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM detects excessive range as DANGER & PROTECTS your joint mobility by tightening. My strenthening methodology: 1. Functional hip joint range conditioning (10-60min/day) 2. Meditate & breathing through isometric, concentric, & eccentric contractions 3. Run (>10min HIIT or >30min run, 3-7x/week) 4. Consistency It took me: 9 months to do pancake splits 12 months to do standing splits to ground You can achieve this too! #frcms #hipmobility #backpain

13.01.2022 PANCAKE SPLITS PROGRESS || . Follow @shannoncasinto for more interesting health information I've said this before, I'll say it again:... "Flexibility is not the same as mobility". FLEXIBILITY = the ability of the muscle to STRETCH. MOBILITY = the controlled ACTIVE MOVEMENT of the muscle though the range of the joint. For the past 9 months I've been working on my ACTIVE hip function using contraction (i.e. concentric, eccentric & isometric) at JOINT END RANGE 3 months ago I was FLEXIBLE enough to enable my head to contact the ground with the help of someone to push me towards the ground. TODAY...I achieved active MOBILITY; my head touched the ground (without an external force to push me down). _________INTERESTING RESEARCH_________ According to the Journal of sport rehabilitation, restriction of HIP FUNCTION has been suggested to be related to LOW BACK PAIN.[1] This may be influenced by the attachments of the hip muscles directly to the back bones (i.e.spine). Adequate movement of the hip joint & elasticity of the surrounding hip tissues (e.g. muscles, ligaments, etc.) are necessary for: [2] Nutrition & health of the cartilage within the hip Protection of joint structures from damaging impact loads Prevention of back pain & knee pain Function & comfort in daily activities . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . No more university"! . Unexpectedly, there was a turn of events that lured me back into university life. In 2013, I was in a motor vehicle accident. At that period, I was living in Sydney & communing (1.10 hour) north to Erina, Central Coast. Then as I was exiting a roundabout, a preoccupied driver collided into my front left panel of my car. I got whiplash & for the first time in my life...I am suffering from headaches! Now I have a personal interest in headaches, so I signed up to become a researcher at the University of Newcastle. ________Important take home message about headaches:_______ There are 3 main forms of headaches: 1Migraine 2Tension-type-headache 3Cervicogenic headache Their characteristics often overlap, consequently making the diagnosis challenging. HOWEVER, EVERYONE can gain more flexibility through ADAPTATION!... FLEXIBILITY is not the same as MOBILITY. FLEXIBILITY = the ability of the MUSCLE GROUPS to lengthen PASSIVELY through a range of motion (ROM). MOBILITY = the ability of a JOINT to move ACTIVELY through a ROM.
