17.01.2022 Back to it again for term 4 with the Queenwood girls school. These girls are amazing and we absolutely love coaching them as they come to every training with so much eagerness to learn and progress with their surfing. A new group each day, 3 days a week for all of term. Learning all things surfing from surfing, On Land training, body movement to ocean wellbeing.... 17.01.2022 Surf & Movement Clinic FEBRUARY 7TH 2021. We have moved our clinic to the 7th of February 4 hour surf and movements one day event on the Northern Beaches.... this clinic is all about learning the correct techniques so that our bodies perform better when in the surf. high performance surf coach Gee Cormack and body movement specialist Mitch Barraclough @mitch.barraclough will be running a one day events to help get you to the next stage of your surfing. here is a video of some of what we will be running through during the 1 day event. all details are on our website so please make sure you check it out and book in your spot before we book out. any enquiries please email us [email protected] In this video, Gee and I are working on building her cross body stability. For most surfers, they are dominant twisting one way rather than the other, and this movement is one from the series of exercises to balance this out. Why should we balance this out though? 2 major causes of lower (sometimes upper) back pain are; instability in the pelvis, or an unbalanced use of the diaphragm (holding your breath) while lifting your chest to paddle (lots of surfers do this!!). This exercise can help address both, along with shoulder stability. Listen to the cues and try it for 2 sets of 1 minute each side :)

15.01.2022 Merry Christmas & Happy New Year everyone Unfortunately due to the new restrictions here on the Northern Beaches we have had to move our opening date to the 11th of January. we have just received a letter from the council with the new restrictions for all surf schools and unfortunately with the split of the Northern Beaches it is making it very difficult to operate so we have decided to push the opening date back in hopes that when we get the new update from the council and... the government on the 9th of January it will allow us to operate as a full Northern Beaches not a split Northern Beaches. 14.01.2022 Teaching our girls how to read the ocean, understand its patterns and see the sandbank formations. When there is big swells we find ways to show our school girls how to see swell directions, wind directions and the way these affect each beach. It's such an important part of surfing and we are here to educate the next generation in a fun and supportive way.... 13.01.2022 Understanding all the elements of the pop up and why we do what we do. As coaches our job is to not only educated our students on the technique of surfing but also why we do what we do. The pop up is a big one and can be tricky to not only learn but to master.... Customising the pop up for a surfers level and physical ability is really important. As a specialised surf school we assess a surfers understanding of surfing, timing, balance, age, confidence and physical ability to determine which style of pop up we teach. Everyone's end goal is different. To become a competent beginner, mastering the foamie. A strong intermediate, being able to master a verity of conditions and boards or a fast and acrobatical advanced surfer, mastering quick movements with speed and flow. The pop up must be adjusted depending on these levels and the boards and waves that come with it. An excellerated pop up, a stationery pop up, a fast pop up, a slow pop up, a customised pop up (due to injury). Which one are you? Surfing is all about having verity so that you can customise your surfing depending on the conditions of the day. Come give our pop up a try over summer and see what you think. 12.01.2022 The board is not your friend... So many people misunderstand the pop up and the timing on a green wave and this is what happens. One of the most common mistakes when people have transitioned to catching waves out the back is that they hold onto the board as it drops down the face of the wave.... This causes the board to nose dive due to too much weight being placed on the nose of the board and the back of the wave taking the tail up and over. When you are paddling for a green wave and the board drops down the wave as it starts to form this is when you place your hands on top of the board and push the board away from your body so that your feet can come thru and you are able to ride down the face of the wave. If you do not have your hands on top of the board then you will grab the rails and as the board drops down the face of the wave you will go down with it. One key thing to remember is always Place Your Hands On Top of the board and as the wave forms push the board away from your body so that your feet have space to come through. 10.01.2022 So so proud of this beautiful woman and her amazing perseverance with her surfing... Kathryn has a goal to become a graceful longboarder, to be able to cross step and just be able to feel connected with the waves on a longboard. She came to us as a women coming back to surfing from many many year away from it and with a lot of hesitation as the person who introduced her to surfing exposed her in a way that built a lot of fear and anxiety.... This is so so common with most of our ladies who are coming back into the ocean after a lifetime away from the waves. It is always a step by step process and we take each stage very carefully allowing our women to really understand their environment and feel confident with what they are doing. To have a client capture this moment of @gee_cormack guiding Kat onto an amazing ride so she feels confident and focused is very special. Not only is she on her new dream hardboard but she concourse a beautiful wave. A special moment that should be shared because this is what surfing is all about... Your moment with your wave riding it your way... There is always improvement to be made but celebrate each step because all that hard work is worth it. 06.01.2022 We are so happy to announce we have an amazing new member to our Chix family. Meet Juliana, our new Administrator!!!!! We have been going through some changes at the moment trying to manage the growing Chix demand and Juliana has come on board to make things run smoothly and to be the amazing helpful person on the other end of the phone and emails. Juliana is also an amazing pilates instructor and awesome surfer (soon to be surf coach) so she will also be bringing her skills ...in other areas to help provide new programs around keeping the body and mind strong and flexible for surfing. Juliana is a beautiful mother of 2 and lives for the ocean so she has a world of knowledge she is excited to share. Due to high levels of people in the water, minimal space and small summer swells we do not operate at Freshwater December to February.... 02.01.2022 Commitment and focus are all you need... It's amazing how when that moment comes, the moment you work so hard for, that moment you think and dream about, that moment you have just paddling your life for comes and your train of thought is gone, You go blank and either pull off or forget what you were meaning to do. The key is commitment and focus.... It is so common that in the moment the wave consumes your thoughts, your goal and the power, size and sound of the wave takes over. It all happens so fast and it feels almost impossible to either take the drop of commit to the changes in your technique you have been trying to fix. To see progression in your surfing to get over these speed humps that we all face at some stage in our surfing it takes training and a good understanding of what you are trying to do on the wave.
