25.01.2022 Who needs the perfect Christmas gift for someone who loves chooks? We hand make these super practical brooder boxes right here in St Andrews at Chloe’s Poultry and have been super busy filling our orders and making extras ready for Christmas. We have been hatching and raising chicks for many years and last year launched the release of them with amazing success and feedback. ... These brooders are the perfect size for most people starting out and are ideal for children to enjoy raising chicks in a safe environment. You can use them over and over again, plus they look great. This season, we are including a new option in our brooders - ones that are designed for use with chick heat plates. (Like the brinsea electric hen 20 chick plate) The brooders are exactly the same great design, but just minus the electric fitting, which also means you save as they are priced at $200 each. Our regular brooders are $250. To order your brooder, please send us a message or follow this link to our webpage https://chloespoultry.com.au/brooders

22.01.2022 Its chick week here at Chloe's Poultry. These two are are from our andalusian breeding pen. Our parent birds are blue and we hatch about 3/4 blue and 1/4 splash chicks from this combination. All of our chicks are fed on Green Valley Grains starter mash. They not only love it, but are absolutely thriving and growing so well. ... Theres no mess and no waste either. We also find that the young birds transition easily onto the Green Valley Grains open range premium mix as they are used to eating grains. Both of these feeds have the addition of Protexin, which is a multi strain pro-biotic and very beneficial. See more

21.01.2022 Its all about eggs at Chloe's Poultry this week and here are some of the beautiful eggs we collected today. Although pure breeds and heritage breeds lay less eggs per week when compared to commercial layers, they will continue to lay eggs for many more years, and be much healthier in the process.

19.01.2022 Its egg week here at Chloe's poultry and today we are talking bloom. Not the pretty flower type of bloom, but bloom on your egg. Bloom is a natural coating the hen places over her egg at the last stage of development, which is just as she lays it. If you find a very fresh egg, or are lucky enough to watch your hen lay, you can sometimes still see the bloom there over the egg as it is a little damp and shiny. It will then dry quickly, which forms a protective coating over ...the entire shell of the egg. It stops harmful bacteria entering the egg, seals the pores which prevents moisture loss and in our case, it protects the undeveloped egg. We never wash our eggs, as keeping the bloom is super important. Sometimes theres a little dirt here and there, but the precious bloom is always there. Keeping the bloom ensures the best possible hatching eggs for you and healthy little chicks to follow. See more

18.01.2022 COVID has changed the way we do some things, so heres a few reminders and some more information about what we are currently doing in line with the current regulations and restrictions. Some of the decisions and the restructuring of our business has been made for other reasons, such as the time we have available and our family commitments at home and on the farm. EGGS - All fertile hatching eggs are being sent in the post. There are no pick ups, no meeting points and no excep...tions, no matter where you are located or what stage your area is in. There may be delays in the express post system, but Australia Post has advised, it is still the fastest way to send and receive. Australia Post have also advised that different sorting centres may be used, so you may follow the tracking of your eggs, a different route may be expected. Orders for most of our eggs are currently closed as our books are full. All pre-orders orders are getting processed in the order that they were placed in. Once we fill the orders, we can re-open the books, with some breeds opening shortly. Any eggs which are additional to our pre-orders will be advertised on this page in a new post on Sunday nights at 6pm, ready for post on the Monday. It won't happen every week, just when we have availabilities. BROODERS - We are busy completing another lot of our brooders boxes which will be ready to supply to you once we are back in stage 3 (or similar) so we can safely do contactless collection at meeting points. CHICKS - We are not selling any chicks at the moment. We are hatching small numbers weekly. Once restrictions change and we re-assess and increase our weekly hatches and look at having chicks available for purchase. AVIAN INFLUENZA - In regards to the Victorian outbreak of Avian Influenza in the Golden Plains Shire and near Barinsdale - We are not in or anywhere near the restriction zone. We have been following all the guidelines from the department of agriculture and will continue to do so. Due to this, we are unable to post any eggs to the restricted areas. If you have placed and order and are located in these areas, please let us know. BIOSECURITY - We have an number of very strict biosecurity measures in place, which include a 'no birds in' rule, which means we do not take back any surrendered birds or roosters. We do not have any visitors to our birds or farm either. Stay safe everyone and thanks to my parents for this great photo of some of their rainbow layers enjoying the garden.

16.01.2022 It’s all about eggs this week at Chloe’s Poultry and here are some of the amazing eggs we collected today. This Sunday, at 6pm, we will be advertising the extra eggs we have which are surplus to the weeks orders. There will be an assortment of our breeds and all eggs will be marked accordingly. ... Each dozen will be different and will be ready to post to you the next morning. Supply will be limited, and we don't take pre-orders for these mixes so it will be a first to say sold basis on each post. The eggs will be priced at $70/dozen and express postage in an eggspress safe carton is an additional $30. This is a fantastic way to try out some new breeds, get those extra shell colours in your basket and have fun growing up your own chicks at home. For more info on our breeds, postage and anything else, please visit our webpage or have a scroll through our Facebook page. https://chloespoultry.com.au/

15.01.2022 We often receive messages with questions on what to feed. Thats easy! You can't go past Green Valley Grains. The feeds are all nutritionally balanced and specifically formulated to meet the needs of your birds. ... Theres no mess, no waste and they don't pick out bits and leave the others, because every bit is delicious - if you are a chook that is! The starter/grower mash is safe to feed your entire flock, so if you are lucky enough to have a broody and raise chicks in with your layers, you can still eat the eggs safely. We have been feeding our birds solely on GVG for the past few years now and have noticed a huge improvement in overall health and vitality, egg production, shell quality and strong healthy chicks, just to name a few.

15.01.2022 It’s chick week here at Chloe’s Poultry. This super fluffy little chick is a buff orpington. All of our chicks are fed on Green Valley Grains starter mash. They not only love it, but are absolutely thriving and growing so well. Theres no mess and no waste either. ... We also find that the young birds transition easily onto the Green Valley Grains open range premium mix as they are used to eating grains. 15.01.2022 We often get asked how long we keep eggs after they have been laid, before we send them. Having a fresh egg adds to the viability of it developing into a chick so time is very important. Mondays orders are collected from Wednesday to Sunday. Wednesdays orders are collected on Monday and Tuesday. Sometimes, if we are a few eggs short for an order, I will wait for the hens to lay in the morning on the day of postage, which means they were laid that day.

14.01.2022 This pretty pullet hatched from one of these dark olive speckled eggs and her dad is a wheaten marans. I’m looking forward to see what colour she lays. In a few years she will join our breeding team of rainbow layers. . .... . . . NFS. See more

14.01.2022 It’s egg week here at Chloe’s Poultry and today one hen from our rainbow layer pen didn’t know if she wanted to lay a blue egg or a green egg. It was incredibly hard to take a photo of to show the true colour.

13.01.2022 How many broody hens do you have? We have four right now, which isn’t bad, considering the amount of hens we have.

12.01.2022 RAINBOW LAYER fertile hatching egg orders are now open! Message us now to book your order. Our Rainbow layers are exclusive to Chloe's Poultry and have all been specifically selected and bred by us over many years. ... The breeds we used originally, include cream legbar, gold legbar, wheaten marans, copper marans, brahma, black araucana, lavender araucana and light sussex. We are now adding AVGEN cream legbar and barnevelder to assist in creating a more speckled shell. In breeding our 'Rainbow layers', we started with specific pairings of blue base and brown/light base. Our first birds were bred over six years ago. Each bird is unique and lays a uniquely coloured egg. Shell colours from our current birds include blue, green, slate, olive, speckled green, speckled brown and a few variations in between. Last season we ran one pen, where all hens were covered by an Australian cream legbar rooster to further secure the double blue gene line. This season, we are running two pens, with both being covered by import AVGEN cream legbars. Running two pens is particularly exciting, because you can obtain two different lines to add into your existing breeding program, or work on particular shell colours that you have been wishing for. When selecting our breeding teams, health is our first priority. We only breed from strong, health, mature hens By only breeding from established hens, it ensures the healthiest chicks. Then we choose temperament - even from the males. The birds in our pens this season have have the best personalities and are all such individuals. Orders are now open for fertile hatching eggs from these pens with supply available form this coming Monday, October 12th. Eggs are $70/dozen and express postage in an eggspress safe carton is $30. We are hatching weekly, but due to the current COVID regulations, we are not selling any chicks. Once restrictions change and we re-assess any chicks that we have available will be advertised on our webpage, with a link posted to this page, in a new post.

12.01.2022 What are you working on this weekend? We are testing out a prototype for a line of roll away laying boxes. Hopefully our hens like it. We have aimed for a nice simple and very practical design. In time these boxes will be available for purchase and will help with a range of needs including egg eaters, crows stealing eggs and broody hens.

11.01.2022 Its egg week here at Chloe's Poultry and today we are talking about feed. Top quality, nutritionally balanced feed, specifically formulated for poultry is one of the most important things you can give to your birds. Our breeding birds are all fed on Green Valley Grains Open Range mix. It is essential for them to have the correct nutrition as that passes straight into the egg. Our birds love this feed, theres no mess, no waste, they don't pick out bits and leave others, plus their eggs look really nice sitting on the feed!

11.01.2022 We love the brown eggs too! Australia post has been much faster and more reliable of late, which is a good thing. We are now back to overnight in most locations around Australia.

08.01.2022 Which colour do you need for your basket ?

08.01.2022 ANDALUSIAN fertile hatching egg orders are now open! Message us now to book your order. Andalusian are very productive layers of large pure white shelled eggs. ... They are absolutely stunning birds, with this breeding team producing both blue and splash colours in the offspring. The huge red comb and white lobes is another great feature of this breed. Andalusian are better suited to a large pen and run area as they are active birds and enjoy having a little extra space to explore. They generally fit in well with other breeds and are a great colourful addition to any flock. They can be a little flighty so regular handling of young birds is a bonus. The large white egg looks amazing in a bowl along with some coloured eggs. When selecting our breeding teams, health is our first priority. We only breed from mature, strong, healthy hens. Then we choose temperament and nature - including from the males. Even though this male is huge and has an amazing presence about him, he is very gentle and has such a great personality. All of this ensures the best possible chicks and hatching eggs for you. Orders are now open for fertile hatching eggs from this pen with supply available from October 19th. Eggs are $70/dozen and express postage in an eggspress safe carton is $30 We are hatching weekly, but due to COVID regulations, we are not selling any chicks. Once restrictions change and we reassess, any chicks that we have available will be advertised on our webpage, with a link posted to this page, in a new post.
