24.01.2022 Weve hosted a couple of school excursions recently, Alvie PS and last week Colac Secondary College. Sustainability (regenerative farming) starting to make its way into school curriculums. How good! Chucky and Kip stole the show. Pretty normal behaviour from those two. @ Cororooke, Victoria, Australia

We ate, partied and drank our fill like farmers that had a 12 hour pass to leave the farm, all for a very good cause! @kimberleyburridge #adoptdontshop #foxfm #hughesyandkate #mrapril #rescuedog #maremmarescuevictoria #geelonganimalwelfaresociety

19.01.2022 CHUCKY UPDATE Today we spent 3 hours with Chucky. He was pretty tired from the pain meds but we got plenty of cuddles in. Chucky is severely bruised on his back legs and they are getting massaged and iced every 4 hours. He took some assisted steps and is trying to stand on those back legs but at the moment its still too sore for him. Hes also got his appetite back! He hasnt been eating in the recent days so this is good news. Thank you to all whove shared, donated and reached out. We are so thankful to you all. See our last post or our jnstageam if you wish to donate to the GoFundMe to help Chucky recover

18.01.2022 Gday Folks, Been meaning to get onto this for a while, (apologies). Backyard chooks. When are they available? Mid - late July and end of October. Its one of the most important practises here. Rehoming. Every single chook finds a backyard at 18 Months of age. Always. Whether its 1,2 or 200, pop those dates in the calendar if youre after a few. If youre really keen send a message via fb, insta or 0438092213 and its in the book. Otherwise youll see us start to advertise them around June. Cororooke (Colac). Hyline Brown.

15.01.2022 #Repost @otwayfoodandfibre with @get_repost Only a few years ago Xavier Prime @chooksattherooke invited me to visit his farm. We talked cattle, carrying capacity, pasture condition, revegetation and water management. He was keen on more cattle butttt, there was a spark in his eye when the demand for free range or pastured eggs was mentioned. Fast forward three years - hes built two megga chook tractors, adopted a few #maremmasheepdog and grown his flock to 1600+. This ye...ar well plant another 7500 trees into shelterbelts hes pre-fenced. Xavier will grace the young farmers stage and host a stall at the #otwayfoodandfibre showcase. Pay him a visit and find out how hard graft landed him in photogenic scenes like these..... #knowyourfarmer #pastureeggs #localfood #eatlocal #chooktractor #colacotway #revegetation #landcarevictoria #corangamitecma #colacevents #colacshowgrounds See more

14.01.2022 Dear Friends, Its in unfortunate circumstances Kimberley and I inform and reach out with information and an update on our Chucky boy. 4 days ago Chucks was protecting a chook that was Clucky and sitting on eggs near the boundary. Sadly, he had been involved in a hit-run incident on the road... We rushed him into the local and he has sustained serious trauma mainly around the pelvic and back legs area. After 3 days of no progress a very sad option, started to become a very r...eal possibility without some serious help. Not ready to say goodbye to Chucks, we raced him down to the specialist at the Emergency Vets, Melbourne. We received news we didnt think possible. He could be saved! Its an hour by hour process at the moment. He cannot standup and is battling multiple trauma injuries mainly fractured bones around the pelvic floor. Chucks is far from out of the woods, but in the ABSOLUTE best care possible. After consulting with the Vets and scenarios for Chucks we decided this is not the end. Chucks will get the best care available and went down this path of getting him back home where he belongs. Its a costly one, but Chucks is worth it! Most who follow us know Chucky. Anyone who has visited the farm definitely knows Chucky and his quirky, cuddly nature. Hes not called the Cuddle Monster for nothing! The cost of keeping Chucky alive and giving him the best chance of recovering possible has been extremely expensive already. Currently $5,000. It costs $1,000 per day from now on to give Chucky this care. Some dogs take days, some weeks. Were desperately waiting and hoping its sooner rather than later. Yesterday, we started the campaign, to help us afford to get Chucky home alive and well. A Gofundme page, which the Maremma community of Australia has already supported heavily We need help to raise $10,000 to afford his treatment. Times are certainly pretty damn tough for many farmers in Australia right now. Its a huge amount of money. If youre in a position and able to donate, no matter how big or small, no words can express our gratitude. It would mean so much... The link is in our bio Thank you whole-heartedly, Kimberley, Xav and Chucks @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia https://www.gofundme.com/callout-for-chucky

14.01.2022 Todays team Ever tried to get 4 Maremmas and a Kelpie to behave all at once? (Turbo Prime best on today, very good boy). @erinkingphotographer @youngbrokeandfamous_ @foxfm @hughesyandkate #menandmongrelscalendar @ Cororooke, Victoria, Australia

14.01.2022 The social isolation is strong in this one.

13.01.2022 We continue to be overwhelmed by the generosity of our community in supporting the campaign to get Chucky the treatment he needs. No words can describe how grateful we are. Jacob reached out to us to help Chucky get back home by holding a raffle to win a hamper of fresh bread from his business, Bakers Delight in Drysdale. Thank you so much to Jacob and the team at Bakers Delight in Drysdale for getting behind the cause

08.01.2022 CHUCKY 17/3 AM We are on our way to pickup our White Wolf! He has reached his goal to stand up and wee unassisted and is now ready to continue his recovery at home in a familiar environment!

08.01.2022 A year ago, Xavier Prime started with 200 chooks and a pie-in-the-sky idea to build a sustainable, high-welfare hen operation based on permaculture principles. ... Just look at him now - boasting a giant mobile A-frame chook house that he built himself, a flock of 2000 birds and counting, and a growing legion of customers. Read his story for inspiration and advice about how to get started in free-range eggs.

04.01.2022 Chucky - Back and better

04.01.2022 For the Chucky well wishers He is on the mend.

03.01.2022 Sir David Attenborough gave a speech last night that was both powerful and empowering. He breaks down why he values Our Planet and why we all need to act to take on saving this world. Honestly, can you imagine not loving him?

03.01.2022 PLEASE NOTE!!! We are bursting at the seams with fosters and dogs waiting in the wings to come to care or in a shelter waiting for us to try spring them and get... them with grass and paddocks under their feet. We are volunteers. We do this for the love and dont work office hrs. Sometimes life happens and we cant respond for 24 hrs as we are knee deep literally in dog crap trying to fit more than a dozen dogs into a handful of foster carers places. If we say we have no room its for the safety of the dogs and people doing the hands on stuff who are at risk if they are overloading dogs. If we say yes to more than we can manage it can be dangerous. HOW OUR PROCESS WORKS. We get a call. Dog comes to care We assess for as long is needed, some dogs take months and months with us. If they show good potential to go on as working dogs or guardians we post a profile outlining the ideal home then take expressions of interest. The contact details for expressions of interest are [email protected] All dogs are desexed, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and assessed around livestock and different people. # FOSTER CARERS We occassionally get offers to foster care but its not always as people expect. To be a foster carer you need to have owned a few maremma on the land to know the uniqueness of this breed. You have to ACCEPT THEY BARK. Its what they are bred to do to keep flocks safe. They shed ALOT of white hair EVERYWHERE. They BARK ALOT They maybe timid so patience is a must. Did I mention they Bark ALOT. They are ideally breed as an out door dog but many are storm phobic. They are prone to BARKING too. So a very SECURE dog run/ yard needs to be available for them to seek comfort. 50 kgs of quivering lapdog in a storm the first time is interesting. They also bark at storms and butterfly farts. Plus this size foster dog is not always ideal for small folks for the knock over effect until they learn some space respect. They also like to bark. Just a few of the pleasures you too could enjoy if you have the time at home and the inclination to be covered in mud and crap all winter. Fostering is also AMAZING. But fostering a Maremma is not just fostering a dog. Its acepting a dog and helping bring out their best. Then find them the best home. [email protected] If anyones interest has been stirred....Jode

02.01.2022 The kindness we have received this past week has been incredible. Channel 10 got on board to spread the word as Chucky faces at least 7 more days in ICU.
