24.01.2022 Now here's a bug we're happy to spread!

23.01.2022 It's the Chinese New Year of the ox! What do we know about oxen? They are honest, earnest and hard-working, and don’t like being the centre of attention. This often hides their talent, but their hard work shines through. They are also kind, believe people should do what’s asked of them and make great leaders.... Happy Chinese New Year.

23.01.2022 Reduced loneliness and depression? Improved energy, mood and mobility? Sharing skills and experience? The power of intergenerational interactions is truly extraordinary. And we've seen these amazing benefits first hand! You can read all about our experience with intergenerational programs at chorus.org.au/you-are-never-too-old-to-play. 23.01.2022 Mental health support is a sensitive topic at work, but it shouldn't be. After all, being able to look after our mental well-being is key to being the best that we can be at work (and in life generally!). In the days leading up to R U OK Day, let's talk about all things mental health - starting with the workplace. In our Chorus Voices podcast "Wellness at Work", we chat about how Chorus considers the mental well-being of staff and volunteers, and what you can do to look after your own mental health and that of your colleagues at work. Click to listen!

Listen in to the latest Chorus Voices podcast to find out about the joy that comes from living independently.

22.01.2022 Looking for a job is challenging even during the best of times. When you're living with a disability and trying to find employment, having the right support can make all the difference. Here's how Chorus Disability Employment Services can help you find and keep the right job, supporting you every step of the way.

21.01.2022 Do you see food as medicine? As we get older (and especially as it's common to lose our appetites!), it's even more important to nourish our bodies with whole foods containing vital nutrients. But that doesn't mean compromising on taste - despite the misconception that older people prefer bland food! In advance of National Meals on Wheels Day tomorrow, make sure you check out this Chorus Voices podcast to hear all the best nutrition tips from the experts at Chorus.

21.01.2022 Calling all green thumbs and handypersons ! We need your help! Chorus is dedicated to helping everyone in our community remain independent and in their own home for as long as possible. Thats why we need gardening and home maintenance volunteers across the Perth metro and Rockingham areas to help us look after customers' homes and gardens - to keep them safe, manageable, and beautiful. No experience needed! Ready to get your hands dirty for a great cause? Get in touch at [email protected] or phone 1800 264 268.

21.01.2022 Student volunteers are the best! It was a pleasure having the Perth Modern School students volunteer with the North Perth gardening team recently. Both the students and crew had a brilliant time, and the kids brought so much energy and positivity to the day. Thanks so much, guys! Volunteering in groups, whether corporate or from school, uni or TAFE, is a great way to build team spirit, gain work experience and learn new skills. Find out more about volunteering with Chorus at chorus.org.au/volunteer.

20.01.2022 "Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes." Here at Chorus, staff encourage each other to spend a day outside their usual role to work with a different team in another side of the organisation. It's what we call our 'Walk a day in someone else's shoes' initiative, and it helps us understand and appreciate each other better! Recently, three staff members all took on the challenge. Chorus Accountant Racheal and Volunteering Group Manager Emer spent some time looking aft...er customers' gardens with the Gardening and Home Maintenance teams, and Customer Contact Administrator Marija walked a day in Coordinator Cecilia's shoes to visit a customer. Thanks for your amazing effort, ladies!

20.01.2022 We have exciting news! Chorus has officially merged with Kira Community Services, another great WA-based not-for-profit care provider. Our organisations have much in common mainly that our most important goal is to put YOU at the centre of every decision we make. That’s why this merger was such a natural fit. To customers there will be no changes to your current services. But you may be getting to know some new friendly faces soon!... We can’t wait for this exciting new chapter in our story. Special thanks to Allens Careers legal team for helping us complete the merger so seamlessly.

20.01.2022 To the Rockingham community The Chorus Rockingham office at 4 Civic Boulevard has closed, but we're not going anywhere. We want to assure customers that this office closure will not affect the quality of your on-going services with Chorus. Customer activities will remain local and we will still be operating out of the Ray Street and Port Kennedy locations, as well providing in-home services.... We're committed to the people in the Rockingham area and we will continue to build on our long history of supporting the community. If you have any questions about this change, please get in touch with us at 1800 264 268.

20.01.2022 It's official - today's the first day of Spring! The cooler months of spring are the best time to get our gardens ready for the summer. So here are a few of our best tips to get your garden in tip top shape from the gardening experts at Chorus. #1. Improve the soil by using soil conditioners and amendments such as Bentonite clay, rock minerals and trace elements.... #2. Use wetting agent on your entire garden, whether it is Water Wise, exotic or traditional. #3. Mulch, mulch, mulch. A mulch layer drastically reduces moisture lost through evaporation. For more spring gardening tips, check out chorus.org.au/garden-jobs-summer-holidays.

19.01.2022 Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! I wanted to be with Elizabeth very, very much, says Kevin. I knew that there was a lovely relationship to be had between the two of us, but I didn’t really want to just live together. It needed to be deeper than that for me. Listen in to this episode of Chorus Voices and watch the video to hear how Kevin and Elizabeth found love in their 80s.... https://chorus.org.au/story/love-your-age/ See more

19.01.2022 It's nice to see customers come alive when they tell little stories about earlier in their lives, says John. What’s it like being part of an awesome gardening team? Pretty special actually. For our latest Chorus Voices podcast , we hit the road with the Carlisle crew to dig up some the dirt on a day in the life of Chorus gardeners. Interested in volunteering in our gardening team? Visit chorus.org.au/volunteer.

18.01.2022 Happy National Student Volunteer Week! Student volunteers just have a way of brightening up Chorus with their amazing energy and enthusiasm. And they always come up with such creative ideas! Like these care packages the Santa Maria College students made up for volunteers who were isolating during COVID-19. Thanks so much for giving back to our community, and helping us enable people to live the life they choose. You're the best!

18.01.2022 Gardening hero! Chorus gardener Nick was doing a gardening service when the customer's neighbour, who was visiting, collapsed. Luckily, Nick and the customer performed first aid and were able to get him breathing again before the paramedics arrived. The customer rang the next day to tell us what happened, wanting Nick to know his neighbour was going to be okay, and thank him because he felt without his help his neighbour wouldn't have made it.... What an amazing act of courage for Nick to step up and use his first aid training in this situation! Absolute legend!

18.01.2022 Life always seems to get busier and busier, and it can be hard finding the spare time to give back to the causes we believe in. But you don't actually need to set apart hours or days at a time to make a difference in your community. Here's how you can do a little and still give a lot.

18.01.2022 Following WA Government directions, we will recommence all non-essential services from 6pm Friday 5 February. There will be some exceptions. If your service is changing we will contact you. If you are not contacted your service will be going ahead. There are no restrictions to to services in Bunbury or Albany. 17.01.2022 This week, the Bull Creek Art Club started a new art session with Chorus volunteer Irene, who will be leading the group for the next month and teaching them China (porcelain) painting! This kind of painting is very unique, but the Art Club is loving the challenge and enjoying learning how to paint on ceramic tiles. We can't wait to see the finished products in a few weeks!

16.01.2022 Last week, customers, staff and volunteers celebrated Diwali in our Bull Creek social centre. Chorus staff Armina and her daughter Sonia kindly offered to perform some traditional dances, and Sonia painted beautiful henna designs on customers and staff. The fantastic volunteers at the centre also cooked up a delicious meal to celebrate the occasion. We're so lucky to have such caring staff and volunteers at Chorus! You're all so appreciated by customers and the Chorus community.

16.01.2022 Every week is Seniors Week at Chorus, but we love the opportunity to celebrate the long, and marvellous lives of Chorus customers. This week, the Chorus Kwinana Tuesday group celebrated Seniors Week with a very special 'Memories Day'. Each customers brought in one item from their past to display while they shared their memories with the group. We heard amazing stories, including fond memories of a late husband, and a wild girls' trip to Sydney! The group also played a memor...y quiz and sang along to music from their younger years. Community Connections Team Lead Paula says, "It's great to have a 'Memories Day' with customers, particularly as some have dementia and it really helps them to retain their long-term memories. They love sharing their past!"

15.01.2022 Earlier this week, we said thank you and goodbye to long-serving volunteer Alan with a delicious barbecue at Chorus North Perth. We were also lucky enough to celebrate his 80th birthday with him! Alan has been volunteering with us for 10 years, helping with admin in Chorus Carlisle and supporting the Gardening and Home Maintenance team in North Perth. After all his amazing years of service, he has decided that its now his time to retire. We will sorely miss his wonderful c...ompany, kindness and friendly smile. Wishing you all the best in your next adventure, Alan! You can hear Alan on our Chorus Voices podcast episode 'Love your Age' at chorus.org.au/story/love-your-age.

14.01.2022 This week, Chorus Bull Creek Art Club customers painted a native scene from beautiful Broome - a Kimberley region Boab tree standing in the red dirt and blue sky backdrop of the outback. Chorus Social Support Worker Kathryn was inspired by a recent trip to Broome, and thought the Art Club would very much enjoy painting the landscape. She even brought back some coloured rocks and red dirt for the session to illustrate the amazing colours of Australia's North West. Sure enough, the customers' paintings were remarkable!

14.01.2022 "Creating art trains you to concentrate on details and pay more attention to your environment. In this way, it acts like meditation," says Chorus Social Support Worker Kathryn. This was only their third lesson, but Kathryn says she's been amazed by the artistic abilities displayed by members of the Chorus Bull Creek Art Club. The calm and friendly atmosphere to the sessions has already led to new friendships forming, and customers connecting and sharing their artworks. A huge thanks to Civic Square librarian Kerry for her ongoing support of the Chorus Bull Creek team over the years. She even set up tables by the big windows for light in anticipation of the group, giving them a relaxing view of the Australian native trees and shrubs. City of Melville Libraries and Museums

12.01.2022 The local Chorus garden at Piney Lakes Community Garden Inc is quickly becoming a real favourite for customers! Most recently, the Bull Creek Chorus Fit Group paid the garden a visit after their exercise class, taking the time to enjoy the beautiful sunshine and fresh air. After a nice chat and tour about the garden with Allan, who is a working member of the Community Gardens, the customers were even able to take some fresh veggies home for dinner.

12.01.2022 We're excited to be part of the Contemporary Art Spaces Mandurah exhibition which opens tomorrow. See you there!

11.01.2022 Just as COVID-19 hit, Chorus began collaborating with Befriend Inc to help keep Mandurah seniors connected during an isolating time. The 'Ring Ring Social Phone' group provided a safe way for seniors to interact and even make new friends through regular phone calls. After months of chatting on the phone, the 'Ring Ring' group members are finally meeting in person!

11.01.2022 Did anyone see the Castaway's Sculpture On The Beach exhibition in Rockingham? One lucky Social Support group enjoyed an outing to view the WA artist-focused sculptures in late October. The group loved strolling around the beach, discussing the artwork and taking in the beautiful sunlight. We feel summer fast-approaching! ... City of Rockingham Local Government

11.01.2022 Thanks to the 2020 Stockland CARE Grants program we have created an accessible garden for older people at the City of Melville Piney Lakes Community Garden. Our veggie garden is lovingly tended by volunteer Tony and includes a trellis for vertical planting and raised garden beds so everyone can access it. Last week Bull Creek activity centre customers put our little patch to the test and the verdict is - it's great! We even took some veggies home for dinner.

11.01.2022 The weather has been absolutely stunning this week, and what better way to enjoy it than with a group outing? The Chorus Mandurah Flexi group made the most of the beautiful sunshine with a day trip to Mandurah Ocean Marina. They stopped for a nice lunch at Sharkys Mandurah before sitting down under the flame trees for a coffee and a chat watching the boats passing by. Now that's what we call a perfect afternoon!

11.01.2022 The Chorus Fit group at Bull Creek had a special treat last week with Gardening and Home Maintenance Team Lead Brad stepping in to lead their class! Brad, who is also a qualified Personal Trainer, came to the rescue when the regular trainer was unable to attend. The class absolutely loved their session and can't wait to have him back. Thanks Brad - what a legend!

10.01.2022 Chorus people are, almost without exception, kind. But truthfully, being this way isnt easy when the systems we work in focus on service delivery and outcomes, not community and connection. In his latest blog, Chorus CEO Dan talks about how we are working to remove barriers to kindness so we can deliver quality community support WITH a human touch.

04.01.2022 Sometimes having a cup of tea and a chat is much more valuable to a person than making sure the bed linen is changed, says Nikki. On the latest Chorus Voices podcast , we are talking KINDNESS - it benefits everyone, but only has to start with a few.

03.01.2022 Over the last two Saturdays, the Chorus Fresh Approach team have been busy on the streets of Bull Creek, heading out with a coffee cart to help local residents connect with their neighbours.
