19.01.2022 Master Ng Si Kay performing the straight sword form on one of his birthdays. On this occasion he was 77 years young. The original forms name is Joy Fong Gim in English means the straight sword that chases the wind. This is about 30 % of the form, the rest has been cut out for privacy reasons. You also must remember, that weapons in mantis are intentionally heavy. As is the sword he uses here. ... Paul Sifu

16.01.2022 For many years now, I have witnessed people posting on the internet, through websites and YouTube, media that specifically references their association with the lineage of Grandmaster Ip Shui. Quite frankly I find it repellent and impertinent! These brave souls waited to speak loudly only after Si Gungs passing. The only premise I can surmise is so their so-called association with traditional Tung Kong Chow Gar Mantis System could not be discredited directly. I have viewed c...Continue reading
16.01.2022 Training - Past and Present Over the years, Ive trained many people, but like most training grounds, only a small amount get through to become truly successful. Training Southern Mantis is an extremely hard road, something that myself and my top-level students have enjoyed for many many years. If you ask my successful students about the hardship endured in top-level mantis training, Im sure they will talk about the injuries that we at times are subjected to and have to endu...re. If you ask me about the impact of injuries or hardship of the style I wouldnt give it much thought or much of an answer due to the fact that high-level training in any style, or under any dedicated martial arts master no matter what the system, injuries will always be present. This being even more so with hard and full-contact systems. The positive point about this type of conditioning though is as the levels in both parties becomes more skilled and hardened, the injuries are usually minimised down to the point of only occasionally. Over the years there were men that have come to my school that at times get injured and eventually due to the hardship, leave. The sad part about this is some of these people have a tendency to complain after the fact. What these people must realise and truly try to understand is none of these, not for one minute, is done out of spite, hate or connected to a nasty thought process but out of genuine consideration of the building of the skill set of this very individual to where their ability of defending or protecting themselves or their family members should be an easier and natural process. If any man ever said that I was unkind in my ways, then they truly dont have an idea of the true person that I am. No idea at all. And those very people need to look deeper within themselves and ask where their true insecurities are coming from. And as for holding onto such things over a long period, I find that to be quite a weak act. Especially during every class you were asked whether it was too much. Maybe I feel you have forgotten about this due to the time that has passed. Or, maybe youre just not suited to this style. This particular style which Ive chosen to train and eventually teach is a hard one, and it will continually ask from you to give more than you think you possess. This is a guarantee...! But its that that brings the stronger people back for further advancement. One of my driving principles behind training this style is simple - you should be able to take a considerable amount more than you can deliver, and your duty as a professional martial artist is this principle, no matter what style. Sincerely, Paul Brennan Sifu

02.01.2022 The training from this era is what I train and pass onto my students. The Hong kong people had a strong training program in place long before any outsiders came to train. Today, many make up forms and Jongs then call it the real system. But it lacks true depth, and when tested, it doesnt work. Leaving the student with doubt. Keeping it close to the original source is a must for any system. ... The last photo is in Kowloon city. That seat we named it the Shaolin bed. Not much room and hard as concrete to sleep on. Spent many nights on that decades later after this photo Paul Brennan Sifu
