20.01.2022 GREAT NEWS: NSW property transfer (stamp) duty changes NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced a change to property transfer (stamp) duty as part of the NSW Government’s COVID-19 Recovery Plan. Under the changes the threshold above which the duty will be charged (on new homes for first home buyers) will increase from the current $650,000 to $800,000, with the concession reducing on higher values before phasing out at $1 million. ... Further, for Vacant Land the threshold will increase from the current $350,000 to $400,000 with the concession reducing on higher values before phasing out at $500,000. The change to the thresholds will apply only to newly built homes and vacant land (not to existing homes) and will last for a 12-month period from 1 August 2020 to 31 July 2021. The changes will save First Home Buyers transfer duty up to a max of $31,335 on a new $800,000 home. The NSW Government will also continue to offer a $10,000 First Home-Owner Grant, which is available to people buying a new first home worth no more than $600,000 or buying land and building a new first home worth no more than $750,000 in total.

In its 94-page report, the ACCC found that, as at September 2020, borrowers with home loans between three and five years old paid on average about 58 basis points more than the average interest rate paid for new loans. Further, it found that borrowers with loans more than 10 years old were, on average, paying approximately 104 basis points more than the average interest rate paid for new loans.
