24.01.2022 This story is a cornerstone of the philosophy of G5 Tutoring / Coaching......It is much easier to SHAPE a child than it is to RESHAPE an adult.

24.01.2022 I have been a teacher for 40+ years, and enjoy teaching Maths and English. I have had experience in teaching children from years 1 to 12. So if you have a child in years 6 to 10, and you would like them to consolidate the basics of Maths and English, then I can help you. THINKING UNIVERSITY? I also have experience in working with the Fundamental Mathematics for University" for people completing a bridging course in order to receive their QCE/GPA.... I cover all subject areas of Maths In essence, I can assist you in revisiting and strengthening your mathematical skills. My philosophy....as written on the back of my business card is...... "I will not guarantee a massive hike in academic results but I will guarantee a huge lift in confidence and self belief..... which, in itself, generates improvement and a love of learning." I am available during the day, after school and weekends. I charge $70 an hour. However, if you would like to organize a small group [no more than 5], I am willing to negotiate. Please feel free to call me on the number listed. Cheers Chris

22.01.2022 Good morning all One of my mentors told me,"Talking to oneself is a habit everyone indulges in. We could no more stop talking to ourselves than we could stop eating and drinking. All that we can do is control the nature and direction of our inner conversation. Most of us are totally unaware of the fact that our inner conversations are the causes of the circumstances of our lives." What does this have to do with Tutoring/Coaching? It has everything to do with it. How many kids... today are saying, over and over, " I cant do this, I cant do that!" Too often. Unfortunately, in many cases, kids dont have someone who persists in telling them they can. Robert Kiyosaki, in his book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad", tells us that his rich Dad taught him, " Dont say I cant afford it, say, How can I make it happen?? " The same principle applies with kids. Dont say, "I cant do it!!" Say, "How can I make it happen?" So really, life is about choices. If we can lead our kids to understand that the thoughts they have and the choices they make create their lives, then perhaps their worlds will open up and their creativity will flow. Thus one of the reasons I embrace William Glassers philosophies. To get some idea of Glasser, check out the attached video, titled "Dont lose your child.com" It may not be your child but your husband, wife, mother, father, dog, cat etc...goes for 18 minutes 05seconds....I have watched it every week for the past 10 years and will continue to do so. Enjoy...and, a tip that came from one of my mentors....what I call my "Tip of the week"..... .....Hug your kids every day, and, whilst doing so, whisper in their ear, " I love you.....Im proud of you and Im proud to be your Mum/Dad" Have a great week See more

21.01.2022 Thanks, Damien and Kirsty, for your kind words Over the past six months we have had the pleasure of Chris Gladstone working with our son, Rohan, in developing and consolidating his Maths capabilities. During this period Rohans results have markedly improved, up from a C to an A. Much of Chris work has focused on renewing and developing Rohans confidence and self-belief in his ability to understand and solve maths problems. It is in the area of developing self-belief where Chris real strength is revealed. He has a real understanding of young people and is able to effectively engage, empathise, and then build with them. We look forward to having Chris work with our son again as he progresses into his final years of schooling.

18.01.2022 A testimonial from a wonderful family I have had the honour to tutor. I have three children; two in primary school and one in high school, all of whom need assistance with their school work. Chris is able to conduct tutoring within our family home which means that the children are more comfortable as they are in a familiar environment. I have found Chris to be friendly, professional, reliable and always on time. Chris has been tutoring my children for over a year now and I h...ave seen a marked improvement in their work since he started. Chris has a very friendly and easy going nature and can easily connect with kids on all levels. He is able to judge my kids moods and adapt the tutoring to engage them in order to get the most out of the lesson. He has outstanding interpersonal and communication skills which quickly enables him to engage with my kids and adopt his tutoring to their individual learning styles and needs. You can instantly see Chris love and passion for both children and teaching and my kids could sense this immediately. They can tell that he is genuine and are more willing to interact and listen to him. I cannot recommend Chris highly enough. See more

16.01.2022 My daughter and I on her graduation day.

13.01.2022 A testimonial from a wonderful family I have been tutoring. It is great to see results on paper but also within Jessica. Chris has worked with our daughter Jessica for the last 3 months. Jessica is dyslexic and has ADHD. Chris has the ability to relate to Jessica and she is very much at ease and having fun. His laid-back attitude and humour relaxes Jess and he has quite successfully got her to work for the entire hour.Jess looks forward to her weekly lessons. She received an ...award last week at school, the first in a long time, and I put that down to the work done during her tutoring sessions and her improvement in self confidence. It is truly money well spent Jennifer Contact Chris on 0414 987 308

12.01.2022 Over the last 40 years I have had 5 people who have made a major impact on my life.....one wrote his books 100 years ago and 1 is still alive today. The other 3 are in between. One of these is a gentleman named William Glasser. Glasser has written many books, one titled "Choice Theory", which he calls the "Mother Book". He talks at length about the 5 basic needs of humans.......su...rvival, power, freedom, fun and a sense of belonging. These 5 elements, I believe, are crucial to a successful and happy life....thus G5...more about Glasser at a later time. I have said to many students over the last 40 years....your mind is your best friend or your worst enemy. If we all knew and believed at an early age that our self talk creates our life then perhaps we, and our children, could have a better life. The foreword of my 100 year old book basically says, "Learn what to think and then think it." My mission is not what to teach kids to think, but to get them to understand how it works and why it works. Winston Churchill once said, "Moods determine the fortunes of men; fortunes do not determine the moods." Have a great week

08.01.2022 Good evening everyone I was asked the question on the weekend...."Youre getting close to the 70 mark....why do you keep on tutoring?" There are a few reasons....[1] I love doing Maths problems as it keeps my brain active and I am in a totally different world, [2] I love rediscovering things I learned many years ago; I am regularly visiting two of my favourite web sites....www.vocabulary.com and www.grammarly.com and [3] tutoring and coaching [building self-esteem] is about... the TOC......the Thrill of the Chase. Experiencing the "Ah-hah....Got it!!!" moments. Seeing the "YES !!!!" grin. Seeing the clenched fist with a resounding "YES !!!" One of the greatest things about working with kids without the pressures of assessment and data gathering, reports etc is that you can always have a laugh; you can always see a light at the end of a tunnel that they may not see. Kids really dont care how much you know....they care about how much you care Have a great week

07.01.2022 Good morning / good evening to everyone out there who is checking out G5 Tutoring.....now called G5 Tutoring / Coaching. Probably a good place to start is to give you a bit of my background. I am 68 years YOUNG [soon 69[ and started my teaching career in Goondiwindi in 1970. I moved out of schools in 2012 after 43 years of service, all of which I enjoyed immensely. In that time I taught all year levels 1 - 12, served as a Primary School Administrator for 10 years before movin...g across to High School where I taught Maths and ran an Army Cadet Unit. I took up tutoring as I was missing the interaction with kids and also missing the teaching of the essentials of English and Maths....particularly Maths. Today I focus on Years 6 - 10 and Maths A for Years 11-12. Why do I call myself G5 and why do I focus on tutoring AND coaching?? Tutoring without coaching is like eating bacon without eggs!!! Its like English. English is vocabulary and grammar. If theres no grammar how do we string the words together?? If theres no vocabulary what is the grammar for?? In tutoring we teach process which leads to correct outcomes. In coaching....bottom line is....build the child and the child builds a life. It is much easier to SHAPE a child than it is to RESHAPE an adult. Stay tuned......Cheers Chris

04.01.2022 Good Evening and Happy New Year to you all I have just been to see Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron perform in the movie...The Greatest Showman. I hardly moved during the movie. I was totally spellbound. The actions and feats were great but that wasnt the part that gripped me. I saw in the character that Jackman portrayed what I have seen in many kids over the last 50 years.....a deep feeling of, "I am not worthy. Im no good. Im a failure. Look at my parents....what chance have ...I got?" Jackmans character was hell bent on proving to others that he was as good as them or better. Too often do we see comparisons. Not enough do we see kids being coached to be or do their PB...their Personal Best. THE most important component in the education of a child is the building of self-esteem, a feeling of self worth, a feeling of "I can do anything I set my mind to!" This is my major focus in tutoring/coaching Have a great week

03.01.2022 Hi Everyone Well, as they say, its been a long time between drinks. What with schools being back and tutoring back on a roll, life has been full. If one keeps in touch with the goings-on in the world and what is happening in our own back yard....one must sometimes wonder what it is we can do to help create a better world for our kids.... Let me go back in time. In September, 2001, specifically 9/11 [a day embedded in every adults memory], I had the opportunity to attend a full day seminar on "Motivating Boys". At that stage of my life my boys were 7 years old. I thought I knew a lot about kids till I got married and we had 3 of our own.....I learned a lot !!!!! The gentleman who presented that day had the auditorium in the palm of his hand. I had been to quite a few seminars with one presenter but nothing has ever come near what I heard and learned that day. A friendship was forged that day and a handshake has kept us working together for the past sixteen and a half years. That gentlemans name is Dr Ian Lillico and his photo appears below. To date I have heard him speak over 100 times and I am still entertained and educated. Ian will be in Brisbane and Ipswich next month doing a 4 hour session after school on "Students with Particular Needs". If you are associated with children it may be worth your while checking it out. Go to www.boysforward.com and do your due diligence. Some photos appear below....one of them is ours...can you pick it???!!! If you could pass this on to every one you know who has kids [or grand kids] or anyone who works with kids.....they will walk away inspired. Thanks for reading and....till next time...live, laugh and hug a lot Cheers Chris

03.01.2022 Hello everyone....long time no hear!!! Thought I would update you on what is happening in my tutoring world. Recently [4 months ago], I became involved with an organisation called Education Research Solutions. I started working with schools with a program called Quizdom...check it out here www.quizdom.com.au/video Quizdom is an assessment platform used to assess where kids are at [diagnostic] and it also involves formative assessment [assessment FOR learning] and summati...ve assessment [assessment OF learning]. All of this is done online and answered online; basically helping teachers as well by cutting back time spent on marking. After having gone into the bowels of the program I liked what I was seeing. What really impressed me was that I could use it with kids I was tutoring....so I did!! It was amazing. It was very easy for me to pinpoint the areas needing work. The activities that came with it [downloadable] also had answers. That concept in itself made it easier for me with parents as they were then more inclined to help their kids as the answers were there. Online resources abound!!! I believe, and have proved many times, that there is one resource that stands above all others. That resource I will go through next week. By the way....Uncle Fredo has become an integral part of my tutoring...kids love him. Have a great week.
