Californian firm Studio Schicketanz has designed a sustainable dog house made with eco-friendly materials that boasts some pretty incredible features. The timber canine cottage has a side green-carpeted ramp that leads up to the green roof, which is installed with a motion-activated water faucet and irrigation system.

17.01.2022 FULL SKY NEWS INTERVIEW: Building Designers Association of Australia president Chris Knierim is urging for widespread reforms of the construction industry in the wake of the discovery of cracks in a Sydney building. Mascot Towers has been evacuated since Friday night after cracks appeared in the primary support structure and facade of the building. All 122 units and all but two shops were evacuated over the course of the weekend.... The incident comes less than a year after residents of the Opal Tower in Sydney Olympic Park were evacuated after cracks were discovered in a load bearing concrete panel. Mr Knierim told Sky News that it’s critical that all practitioners, including engineers, architects and building designers, are registered. 17.01.2022 Homeowners can go net-zero or climate positive by tapping the potential of landscapes. As an example, residential green roof and wall systems, which are often key features of integrated site design projects, can reduce energy use and home heating and cooling costs.

12.01.2022 The Henningsvær Idrettslag Stadion in the small fishing village of Henningsvær, located on two small islands off Lofoten, in Norway, can hardly be called a stadium; it has got no stands just a couple of meters of asphalt poured around the field and is used only for amateur football. But its location is majestic.

04.01.2022 Proud to announce that we have won two more awards for our Design and Construction project "The Boulevarde" at the Master Builders Awards 2019. Winner - Master ...Builders Excellence in Construction Award Winner - Energy Efficiency Award I was unable to attend the awards due to another awards ceremony taking place. The awards were accepted by my father and son. Many people have asked me to tell them about the project, here goes: We were engaged by the clients to design and build a house which embodied every concept of a sustainable ‘green’ house without compromising a contemporary design aesthetic. Fully automated yet designed for living, The Boulevarde incorporates sustainability in every aspect of its construction. True sustainability relies on a marriage between sustainable products and sustainable building process. The project upheld this key principle from the commencement of the design to the completion of construction. The old 1970’s weatherboard home was dismantled by hand to preserve the recyclable components. Builders and renovators were invited to collect these components for free with any remaining components recycled through a local Recycling Resource Centre. The Boulevarde is a five-bedroom home with a distinctly modern design, which allows in light and energy from the outside world to create a seamless sanctuary. An artwork, commissioned by the client by eminent contemporary Aboriginal artist BiBi Barba became the core of the design inspiration for this home. We worked closely with BiBi as her artwork work heavily influenced the design process of the project. The artwork design is etched across the homes many elements to create a harmony of light and shade. This design was integrated to compliment the sustainable elements of the project such as the Green roof and to highlight the visually defying engineering of cantilevered floors and suspended wall. The Boulevarde is completely bespoke, we designed every element from the structural components to the aesthetic features of the home. Two solar systems were incorporated for hot water and hydronic and Photovoltaics to provide an energy source for the home and charging of the client's electric car. As you pass through the entrance gate you are greeted by the sounds of water running down the wall of the main water feature. The water continues its course via the side creek which is parallel to the 21-meter-long suspended floating wall. The water continues its course down a second water feature wall into the swimming pool. We created a world first hydronic pool heating system that uses the pool as a heat storage sink was one of key design elements. The heated pool water is pumped directly from the pool through the hydronic lines to naturally heat the internal masonry floors. This is automatically controlled via our own engineered hydronic water storage control system located underneath the ground floor living room. Incorporated is a 25,000lt underground water-tank which is used to irrigate the gardens and for flushing toilets. The tank is sits below a grass roof garden play area for the client's children. The three interconnected water features, which are on three different, are balanced by a series of pumps and one-way valves. Internally, the open steel and glass staircase acts as a light shaft allowing natural light to flow into the lower levels. The 1500 bottle wine cellar is built below ground, allowing for natural thermal benefits of the earth to be harness for the cooling process. The below ground home theatre room has a feature window looking directly inside swimming pool. This provides a unique light source for this private space. Judges comments: Bespoke, in every element The Boulevarde is an active space designed to enhance daily life. The Boulevarde has set new benchmarks for sustainable building in the wider industry. The brilliant result is a testament to all the research, development and dedication of all the craftsmen involved in the project.
