25.01.2022 A great honour to have guitarist/composer ‘Anthony Garcia’ in the workshop trying a few guitars today. Heres a quick taste.....

24.01.2022 Just a somewhat late reminder to all local guitar owners to be aware of the current weather conditions in Brisbane. The humidity over the last week or so has been dangerously low. Anything under 40% for long periods of time is not good and lately its been around 28%. If you own a guitar you care about and you are not sure how to go about guarding against the effects of low humidity then can I recommend investing in the D’Addario/planet waves Humidity control system. Its ar...ound the $50 mark and available from the Guitar Brothers in Red Hill. It works very well and is good insurance against splits and cracks, sunken tops, shrinking fretboards and at the least ruined playability,(assuming it was good to begin with of course), etc. Simply leaving the guitar in the case, though good and advisable, is not enough when there are long periods of ongoing dry weather as that will now be just as dry as the guitar. A guitar on a guitar stand in these conditions is like standing on a train track when the train is approaching....the result is enevitable

24.01.2022 Delivering a new guitar is always a thrill. Watching people experience the capabilities of their new instrument, knowing it will lead them on a whole new adventure, is pretty satisfying....... After a decade or two of staring wishfully at a guitar, I finally got serious and started taking lessons and digging in to my daily practice in 2017. I played a nylon string initially, and soon started looking for a steel string. Once I picked up a Melville, I knew then and there I ab...solutely had to have my own. A true Goldilocks moment! It is amazingly comfortable to hold and the tone is simply exquisite. My Melville was a gift for my 40th birthday and I look forward to decades of ageing gracefully and musically with this incredible instrument. I love the fact Melville guitars open like a fine red wine over time - I’m excited to think of handing this on to my children. I can’t thank Chris enough. His attention to detail is second to none. This is a stunning guitar and a true testament to a highly skilled craftsman. I highly recommend meeting Chris in person - geeking out over wood and specs was a brilliant experience. He also makes a mean coffee (* I’m from Melbourne and take coffee seriously) My one regret is not discovering the world of beautifully crafted acoustic guitars much earlier. Esther See more

17.01.2022 Here's a taster from my eBook...just in case you haven't checked it out. Its a Q & A format with some general answers to some common questions. I’ve had multiple setups in the past but after a while my guitar goes back to feeling ‘unmusical’ and has poor intonation. Is there something wrong with my guitar? Ok the good news is that regardless of the issues evident with the guitar, it’s still about the quality and/or depth of understanding applied to the setup. Even when allowing for the impact of climate, multiple setups over months or years should not be necessary. Heavy usage, particularly aggressive bending, will of course wear out nickel frets quite quickly which has an obvious impact on tonality and intonation. 15.01.2022 Enjoyed playing one of the recently finished stock guitars while we were away. This one is Indian Rosewood, Italian Spruce, Adirondack bracing. Very, very pleased with it. Will have 3 new ones up on the site soon for sale. Stay tuned. www.melvilleguitars.com
