23.01.2022 Studies have shown that mental illness is not a key driver of domestic and family violence. By if we keep conflating domestic violence with mental health? It wi...ll mean we are not putting our finite resources towards tackling the scourge of domestic violence in this country to where they are most needed first. And the cost? The safety of thousands upon thousands of Australian women and children who are currently trapped in violent and abusive households. https://womensagenda.com.au//talking-about-domestic-viole/

19.01.2022 Why Doesn’t She Leave? How often is this asked about domestic violence victims. Leaving domestic violence is a time of escalated danger and risk. The majority... of victims of domestic violence homicide have been in the process of leaving or have already left at the time of their death. There are so many things that victims need to consider...where to go, who to talk to, who to trust, what about my job, my children, schools, finances, solicitors, court..... It is a process with so many services and systems to navigate. Often staying is easier than leaving. Or returning to their abuser can become a preferred option than navigating so many unhelpful, confusing and unsafe alternatives Collaboration and Integration of responses can provide clearer, safer pathways Be the safe person or safe service who makes a difference In immediate danger call the police on 000 or 1800 RESPECT 1800 737732 #ChangeTheEnding #BenchChat #DFVPM #Domesticviolenceawareness

12.01.2022 IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO SPEAK TO THE TRIPLE ZERO OPERATOR Triple zero has a dedicated response for situations like this, when people who are at risk of ha...rm and may be unable to call and speak to triple zero safely or without increasing the risk. When a 000 caller doesn’t respond to the operator's question Emergency. Police? Fire? Ambulance? the call is transferred to an interactive voice response (IVR). The IVR asks you to press '55' if you require emergency help. If you don’t press '55' after being asked three times, your call will be disconnected. When you press '55' you will be connected to the police. If you are still unable to speak, the police will attempt to call you back and might also send a patrol car to your address. If you can speak and provide your location, you should do so. This will ensure police can respond quickly. Police will use the address for the service (which would usually be either your home or billing address). This means it is important to make sure that your telco has the most up-to-date address details for your phone services. For more information visit the Australian Communications and Media Authority(ACMA) website https://www.acma.gov.au/emergency-calls
12.01.2022 CONTENT WARNING: Strangulation Strangulation has been described as the "last warning shot" by experts in the US because women who have been strangled are signif...icantly more likely to die by domestic homicide. 06.01.2022 Whilst people complain about being stuck home during COVID-19 think about those vulnerable people and families, whose safety is being compromised, whilst living and working under the same roof as an abuser. #domesticviolence is a serious issue, and we must not get complacent during this time. In the Article below, Chrissy’s opinion & feedback has been shared about the impact COVID-19 is having on victims, and how employers can and should do their part to assist their emplo...yees, who are not safe in their home, but now, also their workplace (being the home). We hope this provides some thought provoking discussions, and analysis of workplace safety for employees. If you are an employer, and need some assistance and guidance in how to screen for domestic violence, and how to deal with it and keep your workers safe, get in contact. Further details in the article below.
03.01.2022 The increase in male violence is NOT because of ‘pressure’ or ‘stress’ of lockdown. If it was, female violence would increase at the same rate in times of c...risis - which it never does. Male violence increases in war, disaster, poverty and crisis but female violence doesn’t. Don’t perpetuate the myth that male violence is because men get stressed or upset and take it out on women and girls. Women and girls get stressed too, yet commit 50 times less violence crime than men and boys. Use your heads.

01.01.2022 #stayinghome for persons living in a situation where there is #domesticviolence may not be safe. In the last week we have seen a situation where a woman was killed, whilst neighbours heard her screams for help, and no one did anything. A phone call to the police may have saved her life. DO NOT IGNORE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE; IT IS EVERYBODY’S BUSINESS. If you suspect your neighbour is experiencing domestic violence, and if it is safe to do so, speak to them with kindness, compassion, and with no-judgment, and offer to make up some sort of sign or action for them to alert you if they need help or support. Every act of kindness and care can literally save a life. Please share this image; if it is safe to do so, you may wish to print or save it.
