20.01.2022 The search for a rector for Christ Church North Adelaide continues. Interviews are currently being conducted. A decision has not been made and there is still time to express interest, or recommend someone who may be suitable. The parish is interesting, stimulating, and in need of a priest who can lead the people with love, prayer and integrity. The worship is primarily sacramentally based and supported by an excellent choir. I love the role of Locum, but am very aware that the parish needs a Rector. Please pray that a suitable priest will be anointed by God and recognised by the Archbishop and the Patronage Committee. Requests for consideration, or recommendation should be made to the Archbishop of Adelaide or the Wardens of the parish.

17.01.2022 As we prepare to open the doors of the church for public worship one cannot but wonder what "normal" will be. "Strange" comes to mind. someone has suggested that very strong germs come your mouth when you sing, but not when you breathe or speak. Buildings must be cleaned between each service regardless of the numbers who attend. There is a limit of 20 people in church for worship, but safe to have fifty in church when attending a funeral. For refreshments after church only on...e person is permitted to touch a biscuit. all instruments in the kitchen, regardless of whether it has seen the light of day in the past twenty years must be cleaned before use. Probably not a bad idea if not out of the cupboard for twenty years i guess. when services begin we must mark the roll to determine absentees and attenders. The question remains; Is this normal? 17.01.2022 Ash Wednesday 26th February 2020. We begin the season of Lent on Wednesday with services of Holy Communion and imposition of ashes at all three services. 7.30am, 11am and 7pm. The first two services will be said services in the hall and the evening service will be with full choir in the church. Let us all begin our Lenten season of repentance by the reminder of our mortality. Dust you are and unto dust you shall return. Lent is an opportunity for us to examine our lives and to bring our focus back more fully to our total dependence on God. It is also a reminder that we need God in our lives every single day of the week.

16.01.2022 This Sunday, 21st June, we come back to church for public worship: 8am Holy Communion 10am Choral Eucharist 6pm Choral Evensong ... For several months now many of us have been yearning for a return to worship in our church, and the time has come. The most recent information from the Archbishop suggests that if we are able to comply with the instructions we may, with some considerations, return to worship. At this time, we can increase our congregation size to 75 people. We are to comply with the 4 square metre per person rule. At the end of the month there will be no restriction on specific numbers of people in the church, apart from the 4 square metre ruling. This will allow us to bring some 140 people into worship. This is incredibly exciting. Let everyone know, tell the world, we are back to church this Sunday! There are of course some restrictions and guidelines with which we must comply: 1. If you feel unwell, or have symptoms of Covid-19, please stay home. 2. It is important that we notify the office of our intention to attend church so that our details can be recorded. Your name will be ticked as you arrive. This is a government regulation and will help to locate everyone if there is evidence of the virus in our parish family. 3. Please ensure that we use the various hygiene stations to disinfect our hands when entering and exiting the church. 4. Please ensure that a space of 1.5 metres is kept while in the church, unless you live in the same house, or are related. 5. Communion will be administered in one kind, the bread, until it is considered safe to use the chalice, or common cup. We will administer the host at the foot of the steps leading to the chancel. 6. There will be no morning tea offered at this time. We can look forward to refreshments being reintroduced in the future. Of course, there is nothing stopping us from utilising some of the eating places in North Adelaide. The return to public worship is a wonderful outcome, and it reflects the excellent job that has been done in keeping South Australia free from the Coronavirus. Well done to all concerned.

16.01.2022 The scaffolding is disappearing at a great rate. So wonderful to see it gone. Only a little bit of roofing to go and that is at the east end. Much rejoicing. Worship continues this Sunday but everything else in the parish is either cancelled or put into recess.. The future of regular public worship looks a bit uncertain. We shall adjust as necessary. The Archbishop has advised all people over 70 to stay home and not attend worship. If parishioners comply with this we will be ...much depleted. The weekly sermon, pew sheet and prayers are to be circulated and depending on absences this week we may need to look to some form of streaming. Anyway, this week is on!! 8am: Holy Communion. 10am: Choral Eucharist Setting: George Oldroyd. Mass of the quiet hour. Motet: Lord, for thy tender mercys sake. Richard Farrant or John Hilton. 6pm: Choral Evensong Responses: Howard Skempton Canticles: Anglican Chant: Knyvett/Dyke Anthem: Light of the minds that know him. K. Lee Scott All welcome. Please come and worship. Unless you are over 70 years of age and wish to comply with the Archbishops recommendation.

15.01.2022 Patronage The search for a new Rector for this parish has officially begun. Please do continue to pray for wisdom and discernment so that the person being called by God may be identified, accepted, and installed in good time. Of course, all of us know exactly what qualities the new Rector should have. They are specific and wide ranging. Each one of us will know the qualities of the perfect candidate. There is a wonderful example of the search for a perfect priest published in... social media. It is amusing, but possibly not far from the truth. This is it: A recent survey in America compiled all the qualities that people expect of their priest and fed them into a computer. The result showed that the perfect priest is 28 years old, tall, slim, athletic and handsome. He preaches for exactly ten minutes, frequently condemns sin and social evils, but never upsets anyone. He works tirelessly from 6.30am to 11.00pm, earns $100 a week wears good clothes, buys good books, drives a good car, and gives about $50 a week to the poor. He is a man of limitless patience, gentleness, and kindness, but is a strong, vigorous, and decisive leader. He gives himself completely to others, but never gets too close to anyone lest he be criticised. He has a burning desire to work with teenagers, but spends all his time with senior citizens. He spends his entire day in parish visitations, comforting the sick and the bereaved, and working in the schools, but is always in the Presbytery when anyone calls. He is a man of deep spirituality and wide learning, but of down-to-earth practicality, a capable administrator, a financial genius, wise counsellor, architect, and builder. As the above illustrates quite well, we will all have in mind what qualities the new Rector will have. The problem is that there is no man known who will be able to adequately live up to the above description. No such creature exists. Of course, we should have something of a wish list. There are special qualities that we would want to see in our new Rector. The qualities must, however, be realistic. In the end there will be some compromise from a human point of view. The Patronage Committee will need the strength, support, and power, of the community prayers so that they may discern who it is that God is calling to be the Rector in this place. That is the key to future spiritual security. This is not a political appointment. It is not an appointment for a friend. It is not an appointment to be made because there is no one else. The appointment of a new priest will be made because God has called them, and we have discerned that call as being true. Please continue to pray fervently for the Patronage Committee, and for God to reveal the one he has chosen. See more

14.01.2022 No, the roof did not fall in when I entered. We are in the process of replacing the old roof with a brand new one. Please pray for the tradesmen/tradeswomen who are scampering around on steel poles at great height constructing a suitable platform for the roofers. 14.01.2022 We are living in interesting times. Our churches stand empty. Our choirs are silent. There is no fellowship in our hall. We cannot even meet up for coffee or te...a in the local Cafe. Some of us are finding creative ways around this. We had drinks over the phone with friends in Canberra. Coffee over the back fence with neighbours. Loud conversations on the street with passers by. And yet, it is not the same. At Christ Church North Adelaide we prepare a prayer and worship package each week and send it out via Email. For parishioners who do not have access to Email we send the information via Snail Mail. One way or another we ensure that our people receive this valuable resource. We share a booklet with the Sentences and the Collect of the day; the Bible readings, prayers for the day and the sermon. The Bible reading references for morning and Evening Prayer for weekdays. And any other parish information that seems appropriate. .

13.01.2022 Oh what a great joy. The scaffolding has finally been removed from around the church. We no longer need fear flotsam descending from above. Nor do we need to sk...irt around so called temporary fencing or climb over stacks of steel to reach the church doors. There is much dancing in my head. The largest part of the re roofing programme has now officially ended. The porches are scheduled for roof replacement later in the year when there will be no need for huge expanses of scaffold. 03.01.2022 It is ironic that the scaffolding is almost gone when for an entirely different reason we are not able to worship in the church. The decision not to stream any services has been made on the understanding that the Archbishop of Adelaide instructed that only the celebrant and the camera person could be in attendance. With this in mind, and the fact that many church communities interstate are streaming very moving services each week, I have been encouraging our people to tune in...to Christ Church Saint Laurence. The services offered are very well done and very moving. I am happy to promote this service for I am sure that we do not have the facilities to offer the same streaming quality. In the meantime we are keeping in contact with our people with email, and for those without this facility, snail mail. We are getting better at preparing suitable material to circulate. At this stage we send out a booklet with the sentences, collect, and readings for the day, prepared intercessions, and parish notices. We include the daily readings for morning and evening prayer. This week we included a blessed Palm Cross. In the meantime we try to keep in immediate contact with the telephone. Next week I shall seek to establish some sort of schedule so that the community can be in contact with each other on a regular basis. The privacy law is limiting, but we will be able to work around it. In the meantime we pray that the Corona Virus May be overcome and all people be kept safe. Please pray for each other, and especially for those who are infected, suffering or grieving at this time. May all people know the divine presence of our God, and be comforted and healed.
