24.01.2022 Questions asked to Council Candidates by the Mackay Daily Mercury. Question3. What should council prioritise in regard to the region’s roads?... Ian Christensen Many of our roads are inadequate for the traffic they carry. Building and repairing roads is expensive but large expenditures can produce large savings when funds are used efficiently. I will be guided by the same principles that make conservative governments good economic managers. Dust mitigation should also be a priority when treating some of our narrow roads. I know from experience that when traffic increases, the council puts gravel down the sides of the road and this is a nightmare during the crush if the wind is blowing in the wrong direction. Jeff Keioskie The first priority for roads must be safety. Early detection is critical and reporting of issues should be easy and encouraged. The second priority should be efficiency and productivity. It is easier for road crews to fix a nearby pothole at the same time rather than doing it separately at another time. But they have to know about any nearby issues. It is also a responsibility of councillors to know their area well. Council needs to push for improved access to the city from both the northern beaches and through Andergrove, including widening of the overpass on Glenpark Street. Authorised by Jeff Keioskie, 5 Downing Street, Ooralea, for Christensen & Keioskie candidates.
24.01.2022 The Mayor of Redlands City Council has ordered how to vote card volunteers away from booths to help stop the spread of covid-19. Christensen&Keioskie are waiting for Mayor Williamson to show the same leadership here with MRC. We will withdraw our staff from prepoll and main voting day booths immediately providing we get the same commitment from all candidates. 23.01.2022 Calling it "Salad" doesn't stop it from being a steaming pile of dog poop. But that's what the Mackay Regional Council's job-killing friends did to make their anti-mining agenda more palatable. Originally called the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (hence the name ICLEI), people quickly joined the dots between an international environment organisation and the radical green movement. So they changed their name to ICLEI Local Governments for Sustainab...ility. Because who doesn't like sustainability, right? But the agenda remains the same - shut down coal mining and usher in a "fossil fuel free era". And our councillors not only signed up for that, they paid ratepayers' money for the privilege. If you really support jobs in the Mackay region, you must back Christensen & Keioskie in the upcoming election - the only candidates who have committed to pulling out of ICLEI and supporting jobs. Support the Pro-Jobs Guys: Christensen & Keioskie. Authorised by Ian Christensen, 217 Hansens Road, Te Kowai for Christensen & Keioskie candidates.
23.01.2022 If you support jobs, good economic management, our community's future and accountability and transparency in council, then vote for Christensen and Keioskie at the election. 22.01.2022 Driving around after 4 this afternoon I was struck by the huge reduction in traffic. I would estimate about down 60%. If this reflects the economy situation in Mackay and regions the council being elected this Saturday is going to have to get proactive in sustaining business and individuals over the next 6 months. I think a 6 months rates waiver for local owned business properties including farms and also for ratepayers who have been stood down would be a good starting point plus waiving of any council fees and charges for sporting bodies and charities. Councils role in this time of national emergency needs to focus on softening the economic blow and to preserve local business and community until the inevitable upswing when the virus is defeated. 22.01.2022 Dear friends, I had the immense pleasure along with my wife Margaret and our 3 children George, Antony and Kathleen in making our Vietnam Vets welcome back at their belated welcome home march in Victoria street in 1987. I recall seeing the pride, the joy and yes a few moist eyes of our Vietnam Vets. We owe these brave Vets and other Vets from more recent conflict. With high suicide rates Vets need our backing. Jeff and myself will show during the campaign a unique way Mackay regions can help Vets. Authorized I. Christensen Hansens Rd Tekowai
22.01.2022 We announced today that Ian Christensen and Jeff Keioskie will be candidates at the upcoming Mackay Regional Council election. As conservatives, we believe good economic management of taxpayer resources is vital and we understand a vision for the future is something that won't just materialise without a fight. We are very pleased that Federal Member for Dawson, George Christensen, and Mirani State MP, Steven Andrew, have thrown their support behind our nomination. This is jus...t the beginning. Our pledge to uphold good economic management is in our conservative DNA. But we have a lot of issues we want to fight for (which we will talk about in the coming weeks) and look forward to talking more with locals from around Mackay and the Pioneer Valley, south to Sarina, and north to Midge Point. 20.01.2022 STEVE ANDREW :''I'M VOTING FOR IAN & JEFF. THEY'LL DELIVER FOR MACKAY AND REGION''
20.01.2022 Coronavirus, Covid19 is starting to bite. World markets are getting nervous. Supply chains are faltering. Aussie $ is at risk. All these and more can have a massive really nasty affect on Mackay and regions. If those coal boats parked off Dally Bay and Hay Pt suddenly disappear the Mackay economy will tank. Mackay will become one of the nations largest Centrelink dependent cities. This disaster scenario has a path to reality now if authorities do not bring the virus spread ...to a halt. Something voters in the upcoming local government election may need to have a think about. We have hitched our horse to a great mining industry which is a good thing but maybe we should also cast an eye to diversifying. Mackay used to have tons of local manufacture and good stuff too. Farming equipment, Batteries, Mattresses, Bricks, Milk, Heavy Milling Equipment and more. Possibly it would be a wise decision for a future MRC to invite and foster local manufacture industry so if coal catches the flu so to speak we don't economically die. Authorised I. Christensen 217 Hansens Rd Tekowai candidate (for Christensen & Keioskie) See more
19.01.2022 Yes, our Council is sacrificing local jobs to the greenies. Below is a letter sent to the Mercury last week (but they didn't print it). How many people know the Mackay Regional Council paid thousands of our dollars to be a member of an organisation dedicated to closing down the mining industry our economy depends on? Probably about 18. And they would all be current and past councillors.... Mackay Regional Council pays ratepayers’ money to be a member of ICLEI, a European-based organisation that says of its membership: By committing to this vision, local and regional governments are leading the way towards a fossil fuel free era, stimulating the green economy through sustainable public procurement, developing urban low emission, climate-resilient, mobility-friendly development strategies - and more. That’s worse than a condemned man helping to build the gallows he will hang on he is also paying for the timber. Any councillor who allowed our region to join (or remain a member of) this suicide squad Is not genuinely representing the ratepayers, who are largely employed directly or indirectly by the coal mining industry. When our region is under sustained and increasing attack from outside influences, the question needs to be asked why have our own current councillors ignored this economic suicide? We need independents who will stand up for the locals and put an end to this madness. 18.01.2022 I was at the start of prepoll this morning. All seemed to be flowing smoothly. What I did notice is a bunch of Councillors pressing flesh and smiling handing out their 'can I have my job back forms'. A thought on this just simply as a ratepayer. Each and everyone of those Councillors is getting paid over $2000 a week so 2 X weeks X 7 Councillors = $28,000 us ratepayers are forking out for them to stand around at prepoll to ask for their job back plus we have to pay them until the poll is declared which is another week or more. So add another $14,000 that figure me and you have to fork out for zero product or benefit to ratepayers. There has been plenty of 'I/we are holier than thou' going on in last few weeks but is that the case ?? Thoughts ? Authorized I. Christensen 217 Hansens Rd Tekowai for Christensen&Keioskie
18.01.2022 In today's Daily Mercury- in case you missed it! Council Candidates were asked how they plan to support local businesses: WITH just over two weeks until the Mackay Regional Council election, now is the time to work out what matters to you.... Q. How will you work to support and revitalise businesses in the region? JEFF KEIOSKIE: My mission is to bring a pro-jobs culture to council, changing the perceived default position of looking for ways to stop things from happening to one of looking for ways to make things happen. If we want to attract new business and industries, or just keep current ones going, the council needs to be supportive of business and jobs. The special levy CBD businesses pay through rates (gouging businesses that can’t afford it) should be spent on promoting the CBD as originally intended, instead of funding work the council provides elsewhere for free, like paving and street surfacing. IAN CHRISTENSEN: Our region’s businesses depend on the mining industry more than any other sector and the biggest threat to our mining industry is the barrage of attacks from radical green organisations and capital city elitists. I am committed to standing up against the radical green movement by revoking council’s membership of ICLEI the extreme green group pursuing a fossil fuel-free era and promoting carbon taxes. The council owes its existence to the businesses built around mining and ratepayers who work in the mines and in servicing the mines so the council should be the biggest advocate standing up for its constituents. Authorised by Jeff Keioskie, 5 Downing Street, Mackay, for Christensen & Keioskie candidates.

16.01.2022 This election, if you support jobs (including mining jobs) and want lower rates, then vote for the straight talkers and the doers - vote for the Pro-Jobs Guys - Ian Christensen and Jeff Keioskie. Authorised by Jeff Keioskie, 5 Downing Street, Mackay for Christensen & Keioskie candidates.
16.01.2022 Is Mackay being secretly prepped for a city-based carbon tax? The previous council spelt out plans to Establish an accurate inventory of corporate carbon emission as instructed by ICLEI (the anti-coal organisation based in Europe). That inventory is essential to introduce a carbon tax at the local government level something that ICLEI supports. In fact, ICLEI’s role model for how a city can usher in their goal of a fossil fuel-free era is Tokyo, which, according to an ...ICLEI blog, implemented the world’s first city-based mandatory CO2 reduction program. The blog explains that: Large-sized buildings within Tokyo must reduce their CO2 emissions every five years; if they cannot, then they can either buy a credit from other buildings that exceeded their goals, or buy renewable energy certificates. To implement that kind of tax, you must first establish the inventory. Do you trust the Juggernaut 10 and the council that signed up Mackay to be a member of this radical green organisation? Vote for the Pro-Jobs Guys, Christensen and Keioskie, to withdraw membership of this job-killing organisation and stand up against any moves to introduce a Mackay-based mandatory carbon tax. Authorised by Ian Christensen, 217 Hansens Road, Te Kowai, for Christensen and Keioskie candidates.
15.01.2022 Kill mining jobs and our economy goes with them. Most people understand that. But in late 2016, the Mackay Regional Council resolved to adopt ICLEI’s internationally acclaimed sustainability framework to guide development. page 3 of Mackay Regional Council’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy document. ICLEI’s framework was used to shape the Mackay Regional Council’s Nine Strategic Outcomes, including making Mackay a Low Carbon Region.... One of ICLEI’s main goals is to usher in a fossil fuel-free era. Local residents should be asking the Juggernaut 10 team of candidates: Why did the Mayor and the previous Mackay Regional Council get into bed with the radical greens? This election, vote for the Pro-Jobs Guys Christensen and Keioskie to withdraw membership from ICLEI and stand up for the mining industry that drives our local economy and provides local jobs. Authorised by Ian Christensen, 217 Hansens Road, Te Kowai, for Christensen and Keioskie candidates.
15.01.2022 More focus on roads and less focus on virtue-signalling to the UN would be a good thing. Why on Earth would councillors sign up to an organisation aiming to close down our mining industry when those same councillors are paid to represent us and provide services? https://www.facebook.com/109479760642796/videos/2737795769601565/?view_public_for=109479760642796

15.01.2022 Daily Mercury! Today there was a feature in the paper asking all candidates their second question (question one was in Saturdays paper) Ian and myself's comments were not printed, even though they were sent by email by the deadline on Friday. Very disappointing Daily Mercury. This is what didn't get printed........ Question 2 - How will you maximise the return residents get from their rates? Ian Christensen Every dollar ratepayers hand over to the council should be returned in the form of council services. Not 50 cents or 75 cents worth of services but the full dollar’s worth. It is council’s responsibility to ensure those services are what the ratepayers want and need (and nothing more). Ratepayers don’t want their money wasted on politically correct garbage designed to make the council look good in the eyes of the right people. I will employ the same principles that make conservative governments good economic managers because it is ratepayer’s money and ratepayers deserve to get their money’s worth. Jeff Keioskie I will ensure ratepayers aren’t victims of a potential price-gouging situation the previous council has created. During the downturn, property values plummeted. Because rates are a percentage of land values, that should have meant rates went down. But, rather than live within their means, the previous council changed the percentage so they could still rake in the revenue they wanted. Property values are rising again so rates will sky-rocket unless that percentage is reduced. If the percentage stays the same, council will be price-gouging ratepayers to fund profligate spending. I will work to make sure that doesn’t happen. Authorised by Jeff Keioskie, 5 Downing Street, Ooralea, for Christensen & Keioskie candidates.

11.01.2022 Please people be sensible about this virus. Binge buying at the supermarket is hurting other people who need some products which have been sold out. 10.01.2022 Will you be ripped off with price-gouging rates in Mackay? When everyone else was cutting back and tightening their belt to make ends meet, the Mackay Regional Council didn’t bother. Worse, they raised the percentage charged on land values to offset falling land prices. Now that land prices are increasing again, will the Mackay Regional Council lower the percentage to keep rates the same? Or will the council let rising land prices gouge more money from ratepayers.... Vote for Christensen and Keioskie to stand up against price gouging of home owners. We will apply good conservative principles for economic management so you don’t get ripped off. Authorised by Jeff Keioskie, 5 Downing Street, Mackay, for Christensen & Keioskie candidates.
10.01.2022 Both print and viewing media are sitting on an explosive story which would change the result of Saturdays local government election. Story involves an extremely dangerous and unprovoked assault which could easily have resulted in a life being lost. As it was the vitims injuries needed hospital treatment. One has to wonder in an age where media runs a million miles at a million mile an hour after fake news which they so often desperately want to be true as to why there appears in this instance to be a cover up complete with silenced victim and witnesses. 09.01.2022 A candidates life is interesting. During the week I happened to be having a conversation with the manager of a large Paget business that employs a handy amount of people. Anyway the conversation turned to the council election (as it does) He said ''What is the @ing point of having 10 councillors at the cost of over $1,000,000 if they are going to just be extensions of the Mayor'' ? He went on to say ''we may as well not have the 10 Councillors n save the ratepayers the 1 million $'s and just have the Mayor since he is going to make all the decisions anyway'' I wonder how widespread that thought is in the community?? it is such a valid point ! 09.01.2022 GEORGE CHRISTENSEN: '' I'M VOTING FOR IAN & JEFF, YOUR CONSERVATIVE , PRO-JOBS COUNCIL CANDIDATES''
09.01.2022 This election has more twists and turns than a hungry python. Now candidates and volunteers are banned from booths to help stop the spread of covid-19 so when you go to vote you wont be seeing any forced smile faces..... The not-so- independents have got a group photo doing the rounds with a vacant spot coz there is only 9 of them. This whole kerfuffle on teams is kiddie corner stuff. Humans have formed groups, teams, bunches, tribes whatever name you wish to attach for their... betterment ever since we walked around on Gods Earth. Captain Cook had a team (crew) on the Endevour that worked mightily otherwise there would be no Australia as it is today. A team per se is not evil, bad, destructive etc but however members of a team could be (I'm talking generalization here not MRC). As it is with a broad range of human involvement people put together teams to confront problems or issues, this approach works incredibly well otherwise we would not be here today. GWA put together a team as is their democratic right. Jeff and myself decided to put together a group of 2 (our democratic right) and this somehow has turned us into evil entities...... that is childish, and an attempt at lessening our electoral chances. The bottom line is this. If you do not agree with the GWA (or Christensen&Keioskie) thats fine but dont just pout and stamp the ground, do something about it. Make a group of similar firepower................BEFORE THE ELECTION. Without the campaigning Jeff and myself have undertaken the GWA would have made this election into a lavish smorgasbord for themselves. I will point out that positions 3 thru 10 on Christensen&Keioskie how to vote card are all 'independents' so if any of those very, very lucky and scintillatingly fortunate 8 candidates juuussst sneak across the line after counting they will have us to thank. Its as simple as that, us (me n Jeff) to thank and it has been completely free for them, 100% free. A gift from myself and Jeff, no strings attached, all from the goodness of our hearts. I have experienced 2 local government election campaigns. Elections bring out nastiness in big quantities, like I said in other post a thick skin is needed. What i see now is people not caring about who wins, as long as they do. My own wish is to see 6 non GWA Councillors for a dynamic MRC. If this does come about it will be the election known as the 'in spite of, not because of' election. Authorized I. Christensen 217 Hansens Rd Tekowai for Christensen&Keioskie See more

08.01.2022 Talk about shooting yourself in the foot! Our Mayor and his previous council committed to: Participate in the ICLEI Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy Program and/or Cities Power Partnership. Page 17 of their Environmental Sustainability Strategy document. What does that mean?... According to ICLEI, as part of their commitments, signatories: Develop a greenhouse gas emissions inventory and report their results. Assess climate risks and vulnerabilities and report their results. Define ambitious climate change mitigation targets and Develop integrated climate action plans to meet their stated targets. If you’re wondering what they mean by ambitious CLIMATE CHANGE MITIGATION TARGETS, the previous council’s strategy document provides a helpful definition of Climate Change Mitigation: Activities to reduce the extent of human induced climate change, primarily through eliminating or reducing carbon emissions entering the atmosphere. page 30 Stop this act of economic self-harm by voting for the Pro-Jobs Guys - Christensen and Keioskie - to withdraw from job-killing ICLEI and stand up against the radical green agenda sneaking into the Mackay Regional Council. 07.01.2022 We're used to southern extremists attacking our jobs. But our own representatives? This must be stopped.
07.01.2022 Families love living in regional places like Mackay because there are lots of green, open spaces. But we seem to be losing those green spaces. For every square metre of green space lost (sold off by council) there should be a square metre gained - in the same suburb. 07.01.2022 This is absolutely terrible. I was a taxi driver back in 70's and 80's. Within the industry we were always concerned with being assaulted or worse. Our well wishes and hope for a speedy recovery go out to the driver and family. Ian Christensen.
07.01.2022 Questions asked to Council Candidates by the Mackay Daily Mercury. Question 4. What do you think council can do to stimulate development in the region and what should the priorities be? Jeff Keioskie... Construction jobs are created during a development and ongoing jobs are created on completion. There are always people looking to create those jobs but our region is competing against other regions around the country. Unfortunately, other regions have councils that are more development-friendly. It is critical the council’s culture change from one of how do we stop this? to how do we make this happen?. The council must actively seek opportunities and pitch our region as the best option. That has to be backed up by a council willing to make good projects happen. Ian Christensen Council should consider what our strengths are and encourage developments that play to those strengths. For instance, our relaxed atmosphere and climate make Mackay an ideal place to create a retreat for veterans, similar to the many they have in the United States. The combination of sugar and mountain water that comes down our blue river (one of the very few in Australia) are begging for a tropical rum distillery. Bundaberg Rum is a prime example of what a single enterprise can do for a region. If no one champions these things, they will never happen. Authorised by Jeff Keioskie, 5 Downing Street, Ooralea, for Christensen & Keioskie candidates.

02.01.2022 juggernaut /dnt/ noun a huge, powerful, and overwhelming force.... Reading in today's Mercury I see an esteemed contributer has penned a letter to the editor which, among a few other comments, has accused Jeff and myself of 'gutter politics' with my referring to our opponents as a juggernaut 10 team. Well as can be seen clearly from the above it must be a fantastic imagination at play to say the use of the word 'juggernaut' is 'gutter politics' What it does say to me though is Jeff and myself along with one other candidate mentioned in the letter must be of concern to the 'Juggernaut 10' are seen as a threat to their electoral chances and the nerves are getting frayed. 02.01.2022 Yet another reason we should consider an NQ State and control our own destiny. Only a bumbling Brisbane based bureaucrat would schedule the four yearly local government elections in March when up here in the north we have high humidity, rain, dripping sweat and possibility of rough weather. Move the date to late May. Authorised I. Christensen 217 Hansens Rd Tekowai for Christensen&Keioskie
02.01.2022 Interesting to see the Mayor in one of GWA latest adverts giving references to his juggernaught yes 10 team when not long ago the same bloke was referencing a ...sizable chunk of the regions good people who know right from wrong as 'rednecks' for daring to differ from his opinion. Putting the two instances together I would suggest this 'referencer' needs a reset in the form of at least 6 councillors who DON'T nod their head in unison. Share please. 01.01.2022 More than 400 serving and ex-service men and women have taken their own lives since 2001. We owe our veterans so much. Mackay is blessed with a great natural environment and relaxed atmosphere so we would be the ideal place to offer support, rest, and recreation for our nation’s veterans. Surely council can assist in the development of a veterans R&R village (similar to what they have in the United States) and it can be funded through corporate sponsorship.... There is no reason why Mackay can’t be the national hub for supporting our veterans. It’s certainly a project the Christensen and Keioskie team supports and will champion as councillors on the new Mackay Regional Council. Authorised by Ian Christensen, 217 Hansens Road, Te Kowai, for Christensen & Keioskie candidates.
