23.01.2022 This week I had the pleasure of doing some mobility and activation workshops Monash Country Club in Sydney. One of my biggest takeaways was the incidence of back pain/issues among the golfing population. When I ask if anyone had any back issues, quite a number of male and female raised their hands. And I found this very surprising. But maybe that is my naivety. When you think about it more, you are swinging in one direction about 40-80 times per round. And when you add that ...up, you see how that constant loading of one side of the spine is going to create an imbalance. Typically, when I am working with my clients, we do a lot of posterior chain (lower back/glutes/hamstrings) strength work to bulletproof the back/hips and have you fit and ready to play 18 holes without any issues. Firstly, we will improve mobility and build stability around the area and create balance in the lower back/hip complex. Then, once we are hitting certain stability markers (for example, side plank hold for 90s/side), we will then look to add some strength and get you stronger in the area. There is no point doing the strength training if you're not stable and balanced in the lower back/hip complex. I would like to think that most lower back issues are treatable and your quality of life can be improved. If we can improve the mobility and stability in the area, we are on the right track to getting you pain free. In the coming weeks, I am going to post plenty of videos that will help to alleviate any lower back pain and have you feeling tip top on the course!!

21.01.2022 Golf Fitness Project . As one of the golfing greats once said, "It's all in the hips". . Online Client, Alex Henderson, Front Squatting 90kgs for 3 reps. Alex has been a consistent trainer for many years prior to working with me. As he has a pretty good training age (years that he has been doing strength training), we have really dialled in his strength work recently. He would typically do 3-4 sets of 8 reps. Now, we are working towards lowering his rep ranges and increasin...g hits sets. . On Monday's, we have been squatting heavy and mixing it up with Back Squats and Front Squats. Here is his 6th set at 90kg's. . You can see that he maintains good speed out of the hole here which is important. As Golf is a dynamic sport, you need to generate force in one aggressive rip. So when Alex is training, we work hard to maintain that speed. If he feels it drop, he drops the weight or calls it there. . Alex is currently working towards trying to make the European Tour. With strength numbers like this, he is certainly going to be belting the ball a long way!! #golffitness #golfstrength #frontsquats #stronggolfer See more

20.01.2022 Golf is a sport that requires a lot of precision. And to execute that precision, you require mobility throughout the body and plenty of speed strength to rip that ball down the fairway. Golf is becoming more and more a game for athletes. You just need to have a look at the new crop of golfers arriving on the scene and they are fit, muscular and mobile. Brooks Koepka could play NFL, he is that big, Dusty Johnson spends 2hrs a day in the gym so he can fly 330yd consistently an...d Justin Thomas is just as powerful. The game in the USA now is basically, belt the ball as far as possible and then take a wedge to the green. With technology of clubs and balls and the combination of fitter/stronger golfers, the game is starting to change. For competitive golfers, If you can hit the ball a long way, your halfway there to being a contender.

15.01.2022 Seated Thoracic Rotation What is your Thoracic Mobility like? This is a great mobility exercise to do before you hit the course. I suggest you do it for 3 sets of 1min, slowly rotating from side to side. Each time try to push a little bit more. Be smart about. ... Try to keep your knees and feet together and it will take your hips out of play.

14.01.2022 Special thanks to the lovely ladies at Monash Country Club today. Got to spend a good hour taking them through some basic mobility and activation exercises to have them ready when they hit the first tee. They will also help alleviate any back pain and have them feeling more durable. Look forward to coaching the male members tomorrow.

07.01.2022 Alex Henderson, 3 Back Squats@110kg

05.01.2022 Excited to be working with Alex Henderson and helping him achieve his goal of qualifying for the European Pro Tour in 2019. Alex plays off +3 and is looking to get more powerful, build his aerobic fitness so he can stay focused on course and bulletproof his body to deal with the rigours of 6-8hrs of golf/day. Today's program had 6x3 Back Squats. I stressed it was important that he maintained speed throughout the movement. He managed 5x3@120kgs, here he is in his last set of 3@110kg (good client for decreasing the weight so he could maintain the speed).

02.01.2022 On Tuesday it was the Ladies and Wednesday it was the Men of Monash Country Club that turned up to learn some easy to apply golf mobility and activation exercises. The idea of the workshops was to give the members the tools so that they can mobilise and activate the right muscles to get the most out of their game. In 10mins of movement, they improved their hip mobility and rotation through the thoracic spine. This will have an immediate impact on their golf swing.... Stay tuned if you want to see the exercises that I taught as I will release the instructional videos on here in the coming weeks so you can all benefit from a simple 10min pre round routine. If you have any golf fitness questions, please feel free to ask or comment below.
