25.01.2022 New dimensions for Year 5 Year 5 students at Middle School Highton have had a lot of settling in to do, and they’ve done it brilliantly! New class, new teacher, new campus, new bell times...but they’re quickly finding their feet. That was evident at yesterday’s annual Chilli Challenge Day as they tackled a whole range of activities aimed at building strategies to overcome challenges and finished up with a BBQ and community evening. Look out also for details about two cuppa mornings on soon for Year 5 families (Feb 19 and 25), which includes a campus tour.

22.01.2022 Getting into the Christmas groove Junior School - Belmont Music Teacher, Mr Smith has entertained us this year with some scintillating lockdown performances. To finish up the year, he’s continuing to bring joy to kinder and junior students and we're sharing this joy here! Watch the action instructions carefully and join him and his son, Josh as they bring us Christmas greetings with this rendition of Peter Combe’s Baby Lying in a Manger.

18.01.2022 A sporting chance Sport is well and truly out of the blocks for 2021 and Term 1 is huge! Each campus will hold its House swimming and athletics carnivals and there’s a whole lot of other opportunities for students in Years 4 to 12 to get involved, which includes the CCG sport program and inter-school competitions. Swimming, tennis, cricket, surfing, equestrian, participation in trials for Team Vic sporting teams...and that’s just this term! Winter sports, including snowsports, are on offer later in the year. For information about any aspect of CCG’s wide-ranging sport program, speak to a Campus Sport Coordinator or email Mr Andrew Richardson on [email protected]

17.01.2022 Congratulations to the Class of 2020! A cohort like no other the Class of 2020 has endured the most challenging school year in living memory, and today as VCE results and ATARs are released, we congratulate every one of our Year 12s for achieving what they have in 2020! This year 186 students successfully completed their VCE at Christian College (100 per cent of the cohort), and all VCAL students were successful. Well done Class of 2020 we are immensely proud of you!

17.01.2022 Can you help with work placement? We seek assistance to place VCAL students into a work environment on Fridays during the school term. In addition, Year 10 students need a work placement between June 21-25 for the VCE unit ‘Industry and Enterprise’. For insurance purposes, a minimum payment of $5 per day is required from the employer. Specific areas sought are: Animal Studies, Carpentry, Screen and Media, Furniture Making, IT, Plumbing and Agriculture. We also want to connect with two builders and an electrician interested in taking on School-Based Apprentices, and any other willing employers outside of these industries to add to our bank of names. If you’re able to assist, please email Kerryn Fearnsides on [email protected] or Mary Higgins on [email protected]

06.01.2022 Supporting those who support others... During the festive and holiday season, we are joining with others in the community to promote the avenues of critical support, connection and assistance for those who are doing it tough. This year we’re getting behind the Holiday Help Campaign, an effort by @BATForce (Barwon Adolescent Task Force) and the @Give Where You Live Foundation. If you require support or know someone who does, please visit givewhereyoulive.com.au/holidayhelp for a list of community organisations that are open during the Christmas and New Year period that can help with food, crisis support, housing, mental health, family violence, financial stress and tenancy support. Reach out - help, it is at hand if you need it.

04.01.2022 Plenty of highlights already for Surf Coast Year 1s! Year 1s at our Surf Coast Campus have made a wonderful start to the year, welcoming a number of new students and getting to know their teachers, Mrs McDonald and Mrs Murnane. According to the students, some of the highlights have included: making the class prayer rug, using craft in learning, playing with friends, starting piano lessons, listening to stories, using dominoes in Maths, learning to make a floating boat and drawing pictures. One student, Hope, summed it all up very nicely at the end of Week 1: This week I have enjoyed everything about being back at school. The great news is, there are many more highlights to come in the weeks and months ahead!

02.01.2022 A blessed, safe and peaceful Christmas to all! For Christians, this time of year holds special significance as we first and foremost celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. We wish our College community a blessed, safe and enjoyable Christmas Day tomorrow, and a relaxing holiday break. As we reflect upon God’s grace and love this festive season and prepare to celebrate with our nearest and dearest, we also take time to reach out to those less fortunate,... those experiencing physical/mental illness, those who are missing loved ones...anyone whose circumstances mean they are doing it tough at this time of year. And for those who might be waiting for a special visitor tonight, here’s a snippet of something to celebrate the festive mood, courtesy of Mr Dave Gardner and some of our amazing instrumental music teachers from a special virtual performance that featured as part of the staff end-of-year service to round out Term 4. Enjoy!

01.01.2022 The gentle art of persuasion... Homework should be banned. Animals should not be kept in zoos. This forest should be cut down and the land should be used to build a new theme park... Year 3 studentsat Junior School Belmontaired their opinions on a range of topics this week as they learnedabout persuasive texts and how to write them using the correct structure - and there were some pretty convincing cases made!In groups, they completed a visible thinking routine called Tug of War where theycame up with arguments for and against their given topics. They will then write a persuasive piece and, when we’re all back together again, be given the opportunity topublish their piece and present their arguments.
