23.01.2022 Some memories of school life at CBPS from 1969-1975: The headmistress of the Infant School, Mrs Randall, tying her pet lamb to a tree to graze at recess and lunch times; In July 1969, everyone being dismissed early in the day, being told to go home to watch the moon landing (on the black and white AWA Deep Image set that used to take several minutes to warm up); The tepid warm milk delivered in triangular pyramid cartons by milk monitors every morning before recess; In gr...ade three, having inkwells on our cast iron and wooden desks with fold-up plank seats; The marble pit - children whose fathers worked at the Chryslers factory had access to huge 'steelies' - ball bearings used in engine manufacture; The two incinerators adjacent to the marble pit, where rubbish was collected in emu parades and burnt in the afternoon; Being freezing cold in winter and scorching hot in summer in the wooden portable classrooms - heating was a smelly oil heater in the corner of the classroom, cooling was opening the fire escape and hoping you were sitting close to any slight breeze; Recorders with Mrs Hood, the deputy head and Mrs Darby, the music teacher, playing at the Adelaide Town Hall and later receiving an LP record of the our performance; Watching the Open Unit being built in 1974, seeing the conversation pit being constructed and thinking were we getting and indoor pool!; Participating in years of fundraisers for the eventual outdoor pool, only to have it eventually constructed the year after my cohort left the school and went to high school in 1976. 16.01.2022 Copies of the book Goin' to Christies, will be available for sale at the 50th birthday Celebration Day. The book was written during the school's 25th year by Fae Gadd. The first half of the 114 page book documents the early history of Christies Beach, and the remainder is a record of the school's first quarter century. It contains extensive historical photographs and illustrations by Ruth Steer.

13.01.2022 In 1985 the school celebrated 25 years. In November that year, students created letters and drawings for a time capsule, to be opened at the time of the Christies Beach Primary School's 50th anniversary. Many of the items in the time capsule were 'Letters to a person in the future'. The students wrote about their current lives and what they thought life would be like in the 21st century. Madonna and Cindy Lauper were among the favorite singers, many collected Cabbage Patch ...Kids. They were looking forward to the first Adelaide Grand Prix that was going to be held that weekend. Questions to the person in the future included: whether the school still has a pool and still holds a Sports Day, whether people still have televisions, wondering if there had been a World War 3, whether there were skyscrapers in Christies Beach, and if you could travel on a rocket truck or buy a ticket to Mars. 02.01.2022 Was anyone a member of the Oceanliners Marching Girls who marched, with medals jangling, up and down the undulating terrain of the old Oceanline Drive-in on Dyson Road? The Brownies and Guides who met at the hall adjacent to the Drive-in? The Cubs and Scouts in the hall behind Dunlops?

01.01.2022 For those who are working and can't make it during the day on Thursday 1st December, we will be having celebrations and school tours later in the afternoon and early evening, up until 7 pm. We will keep you up to date with details on this page.
