24.01.2022 This Saturday 14th November 2020 I’ll be having an additional get-together at Glen Derwent, New Norfolk. It won’t be along the exact lines of the Monday bonnet making event that Glen Derwent kindly hosts. However it will be an opportunity for people who can’t get along on a Monday to call in. I’ll be working on the ‘Roses from the Heart’ memorial bonnets and it would be nice to have people join me. 11.00am - 3.00pm. On weekends Glen Derwent offer Devonshire Teas and High Teas. These need to be booked prior so remember to contact the Tea Rooms.

08.01.2022 Tomorrow we will be gathering at Glen Derwent Tea Rooms and Accommodation, New Norfolk. 10.30am - 2.30pm. If you are interested in being part of creating a bonnet tribute for a convict lass then do come along. It’s free. It’s an enjoyable few hours connecting with one another through textile art that focuses on the lives of women whose stories were swept under the carpet ..... Each bonnet created becomes part of the ‘Roses from the Heart’ memorial global project. Anyone who h...as a convict ancestor is encouraged to work on a bonnet for their family member. My suggestion is that descendants create a second bonnet, honouring their ancestor’s memory. A symbolic bonnet to keep within their family as a tangible memento to their ancestor’s existence, to their life. I am currently focussed on ‘Roses from the Heart’ memorial bonnets embodying the convict women who had a relationship with the Asylum Hospital, New Norfolk. If you would like to be involved please contact me. If you have a female convict ancestor who either worked or was an inpatient at this site it would be great to hear from you. It’s wonderful of Liz and Rob Virtue, owners of the Glen Derwent colonial property to host these bonnet making get togethers. Their hospitality is legendary.

08.01.2022 Just completed a ‘Roses from the Heart’ memorial bonnet tribute for Elizabeth Sarah Mitchell, transported aboard the ‘Mary Ann’ to New South Wales in 1791. Elizabeth married Edward Field in early 1805 at St John’s Church, Parramatta. Interestingly I held a ‘Roses from the Heart’ memorial ‘Blessing of the Bonnets’ at St John’s Cathedral, Parramatta, 10th April, 2008.

06.01.2022 My ‘Roses from the Heart’ memorial project bonnets on display at Willow Court, New Norfolk today....10.00am - 4.00pm. Saturday and Sunday 28/29th Nov 2020. Thanks to local teacher at New Norfolk High Chris Bush and his students for the bonnet stands. Much appreciated.

05.01.2022 So happy to find ‘The Space Between’ catalogue in my mail today. Thank you so much to my friends, the Headford Lace Project Committee for this gift which I will treasure. This book is packed full from cover to cover with fabulous contemporary lace textile art. I would have loved to have been walking down the street of Headford amongst friends seeing this exhibition for myself and enjoying the lace art. However this catalogue will provide me with constant joy as I transport myself across the seas to Ireland and the very special town of Headford, to unforgettable friends, to the hauntingly beautiful scenery..... all reached through the magic of images evoking memories. Thank you.
