25.01.2022 Great lesson with this combination today. Diana and Chester have been working hard to improve engagement of the headquarters to build Chester's strength and create more power. Awesome work guys. See you both tomorrow at the Camden Hunter Trials! #equestrian #ridinglessons #horseriding #coach #traininghard #hardworkpaysoff

24.01.2022 #riderprofile Lucy has recently returned to riding after time away from the saddle, with her quirky but very sweet TB gelding, Mazzy. Lucy has been working on getting instant and energetic responses to a lighter 'go' aid, as well as maintaining rhythm, balance and impulsion in the trot. "I feel much better in my riding in this short time! Thanks for the guidance." - Lucy Berwick #horseriding #equestrian #ridinglessons #ridinginstructor #coach #horse #returningtoriding

16.01.2022 #throwbackthursday all the way back to 2011. Some of you are well aware I have a bit of thing for a horse with spots ...& pictured here is Titan, my first Appy (Appaloosa X TB) He was a super cool horse to train and to jump! Fun fact, the first winter I had him, he changed from the pictured chestnut with a white blanket, to an almost-white varnish roan colour over his entire body He looked like a totally different horse. (The second picture is not Titan, but this is a ...pretty close example of what he looked like for that winter, but he was even whiter). The craziest thing? When spring came again, he moulted out, all the way back to this original colour you see here and after that, he never changed colour again! What the... (Marc Swain @hedge_cutter, do you remember that?) Aside from multiple and mysterious colour schemes, Appies are intelligent, curious and very much people-horses. Mixed with a bit of blood, they can make wonderful sport horses! Who else has got one and agrees? 15.01.2022 #fridayfacts To help prevent sun-bleached areas developing on a dark-coloured coat, remember to rinse off sweaty areas after each ride. The salt in sweat can speed up the bleaching effect of the sun's UV rays , so an after-ride sponge down or hosing off of the saddle & girth areas, + where the bridle sits, can help keep your horse's dark colour longer. The same is true for chestnuts and bays too! Also, from a care perspective, rinsing off a sweaty horse helps reduce skin i...rritations, which can lead to sores/galls, also caused by the sweat drying and being left on . . . ________________________________ #funfact #interesting #blackhorse #blackbeauty #horsecare #horsetips #knowledge #horse #horseriding #horselife #equestrian #ilovehorses #lovemyhorse #horsegirl #horselover #horseoftheday #lessons #coach #horses #ridinglessons #rider #horserider #horsesofinstagram See more

11.01.2022 #fridayfacts You can make your horse more comfortable by smoothing out any any pinched skin under the girth, before you get on. After tightening the girth, pull each front leg forward, one at a time. Remember, gently pull from just behind the knee, not further down the leg. You don't need to pull the leg too far, just enough to free up any trapped skin. . .... . ________________________________ #smoothskin #comfortable #horse #lessons #coach #ridinglessons #thoroughbred #horses #thoroughbredsofinstagram #eventing #horsetraining #horseriding #horselife #equestrian #ilovehorses #lovemyhorse #horsegirl #rider #horselover #lifeafterracing #horserider #horsesofinstagram #eventersofinstagram See more

10.01.2022 #throwbackthursday Riding in the Waimakariri river in Canterbury on this cool dude Lockie, a project horse I had for a few months in 2017. I really enjoy working with a project horse alongside my main two. It's great watching a young horse grow and develop, and I too always learn something new from each one. (Side note: my current girl Miss Violet is nearly ready to go , but she will make someone the coolest equine partner ) PS: I miss the Waimak and NZ in general - one ...thing I notice when coming back for a visit after being in Australia for a while, is the pungent smell of the fresh green grass! Clean, green NZ . . . ____________________________________ #projecthorse #riverride #horse #horses#pinto #horsetraining #horseriding #horselife #equestrian #ilovehorses #lovemyhorse #horsegirl #horselover #lessons #coach #ridinglessons #rider #horserider #horsesofinstagram #eventersofinstagram #newzealand #waimakariri See more

08.01.2022 Looking back on the year that was, happy to ride on forwards. The end of the year means the beginning of another fresh set of 365 days. While 2020 was full of masks, worry and new norms, there were still a few things that this odd year actually made better. With less competitions, we got more time to train, prepare and be with our horses, all with the pressure dial turned down - I know I made the most of training at clinics and nailing flatwork at home! Finally, I got my NZ... riding instructor accreditations transferred across and got my Equestrian Australia Coaching sorted I'm loving working with all my new riders and their horses ...I'm looking forward to seeing you all grow, develop & kick your goals On a greater level, we discovered a sense of a collective oneness while, as a society, we tried to figure out how to continue on with a new way of living. I've felt a bit stranded at times, having the choice of heading over to NZ for a friends and family visit taken away, but my Aussie crew is one I really do feel lucky to have around me. All in all, this last 12 months has been nothing short of interesting, has shown us how to be resourceful and encouraged us to pave new paths forward. We don't know what lies ahead, but if we can make it through the year that was, we can make it through anything! Go forth, set goals & make plans, but be kind to yourself; allow flexibility and pivot where you must. Sayonara 2020. Here's to you 2021, catch you on the flip side. "Well, we know where we're goin' But we don't know where we've been And we know what we're knowin' But we can't say what we've seen We're on a road to nowhere Come on inside Takin' that ride to nowhere We'll take that ride" ~ Talking Heads Thanks for the snap Mel Snapshotaustralia . . . ___________________________________ #Happynewyear #2021 #newyear #newbeginnings #pivot #onwardsandupwards #horses #equestrian #thoroughbred #thoroughbredsofinstagram #horsegirl #horseriding #horsesofinstagram #coach #ridinginstructor #ridinglessons #horselife

08.01.2022 Merry Christmas everyone! Remember to bribe your horse with as many carrots as necessary to get them to look cute and prick their ears for your Christmas snaps But seriously, hope you and your horses have a wonderful break, whether for you it means time off from riding, or more riding while you get time off work! (which one are you?) Stay happy, stay safe and have fun ... . . . ________________________________ #merrychristmas #Christmas #happyholidays #morecarrotsplease #sportaloosa #showjumper #appaloosa #appaloosasofinstagram #rider #sportaloosasofinstagram #showjumping #horse #equestrian #horsesofinstagram #ridinglessons #horseriding #horselife #equestrian #ilovehorses #lovemyhorse #horses #horsegirl #horselover #horserider #lessons #coach #ridinginstructor #spottedhorses #showjumpersofinstagram See more

01.01.2022 Bit damp at the Camden Hunter Trials today, but Fanta and I went quietly round the course and made use of it as a good training experience. I aimed him at mostly 1* fences, with a few 95cm dotted here and there, in place of some of the trickier questions that were not ideal to attempt for the first time ever in today's wet conditions. He jumped every single thing I pointed him at, even the 1* drop down into the water, I couldn't be happier with my little orange horse! Than...ks for the video, company and horse moving Eb xx @jadelanten Thanks to the whole Equestriad crew and volunteers for putting this day on for us eventing nutters to come ride at, regardless of the weather! . . . ________________________________ #eventing #huntertrials #raining #doingitanyway #horse #lessons #coach #ridinglessons #thoroughbred #thoroughbredsofinstagram #horsetraining #horseriding #horselife #equestrian #horses #ilovehorses #lovemyhorse #horsegirl #rider #horselover #lifeafterracing #horserider #horsesofinstagram #eventersofinstagram

01.01.2022 Building confidence in a horse is a delicate art. Jumping the moon at home is a different kettle of fish compared to performing while out and about - there are other horses, strange surroundings and an overall heightened awareness of EVERYTHING. Remember to ride the horse you're sitting on, on the day. The focus is not what your mates are doing, nor where you *should* be at by now, but instead on doing what you have to, in order to give your sensitive equine partner the con...fidence they need to grow. If you've had a rough round or two, go back down a level (or more). If a particular type of jump has given you or your horse a fright, practice over a less scary version of it. It's never a sign of weakness to go back a step if you have to, but a mark of courage and honesty, an essential ingredient of a great horse trainer. The stronger the foundation you lay today, the higher you will soar when the time is right. Love this of Myal High Lyric by Snapshotaustralia during a great HARA Equine jumping day, held at the beautiful Oaks Sport Horses The Oaks.
