24.01.2022 Swap out our morning coffee today for a soothing #turmeric chai latte instead! Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory - a great addition to food and drinks fo...r an extra boost! Pairing turmeric with black pepper helps your body absorb more of it (and tastes delicious). Ginger is great too! Turmeric can be a little strong for some tastes, but the addition of #chai spices and honey turns it into a scrumptious drink you'll want to have every day. Take a little me-time with this soothing turmeric chai latte by Amy Jordan, BSc(Hons)Nutrition. Serves: 2 - cup peeled and chopped fresh turmeric - tbsp chopped peeled ginger - tbsp cardamom pods - 1 tsp whole cloves - tsp whole peppercorns - Small cinnamon stick - 2 cups milk of choice - 1 tsp loose black tea or 1 black tea bag (optional) - Honey to taste 1. Place turmeric, ginger, cardamom, cloves, peppercorns and cinnamon stick into saucepan on medium heat. Toast spices until aromatic. 2. Optional remove spices and crush slightly with a morter and pestle. This increases the intensity of the aromatics. Toasting the spices without crushing reduces some bitterness while retaining the depth of flavour. 3. Add milk and bring to a simmer (be careful not to over-boil dairy milk for best flavour); simmer for 5 minutes. 4. Remove from heat. If using black tea, add to milk+spice mixture. Brew for 3-5 minutes. 5. Strain mixture into each cup. Add honey to taste If you can only source ground spices*, use the following amounts: . 1 tsp ground turmeric . tsp ground ginger . tsp ground cardamom . tsp ground cloves . tsp freshly ground pepper . tsp cinnamon *(If you're using ground spices, skip steps toasting and crushing the spices and go straight to adding the milk, continuing the recipe from step 3). Note: spice mixes tend to be dictated by personal taste feel free to play around with the quantities a little to make the perfect turmeric chai for you! #FeelGoodFriday #TurmericChaiLatte #BioCeuticals

19.01.2022 In our society, magnesium deficiency is a huge problem. By conservative standards of measurement (blood, or serum, magnesium levels), 65 percent of people admit...ted to the intensive care unit and about 15 percent of the general population have magnesium deficiency. But this seriously underestimates the problem, because a serum magnesium level is the LEAST sensitive way to detect a drop in your total body magnesium level. So rates of magnesium deficiency could be even higher! The reason we are so deficient is simple: Many of us eat a diet that contains practically no magnesium a highly-processed, refined diet that is based mostly on white flour, meat, and dairy (all of which have no magnesium). When was the last time you had a good dose of sea vegetables (seaweed), nuts, greens, and beans? If you are like most Americans, your nut consumption mostly comes from peanut butter, and mostly in chocolate peanut butter cups. Much of modern life conspires to help us lose what little magnesium we do get in our diet. Magnesium levels are decreased by excess alcohol, salt, coffee, phosphoric acid in colas, profuse sweating, prolonged or intense stress, chronic diarrhea, excessive menstruation, diuretics (water pills), antibiotics and other drugs, and some intestinal parasites. In fact, in one study in Kosovo, people under chronic war stress lost large amounts of magnesium in their urine. Stop Draining Your Body of Magnesium Limit coffee, colas, salt, sugar, and alcohol Learn how to practice active relaxation Check with your doctor if your medication is causing magnesium loss (many high blood pressure drugs or diuretics cause loss of magnesium) In addition to all of this, make sure you are taking Magnesium supplements. The most absorbable forms are magnesium citrate, glycinate taurate, or aspartate, although magnesium bound to Kreb cycle chelates (malate, succinate, fumarate) are also good. See more

19.01.2022 What is your top hack for breaking the sugar addiction cycle? More tips on this next week.

17.01.2022 In this video, I'm going to cover the most important rules of intermittent fasting.

17.01.2022 It is that time of the year, the weather is changing, kids are waking up silly hours to go to school. These silly hours get even worse as they rise when their c...ortisol has not yet spiked to wake them wake up naturally (known as the cortisol awakening response) and the melatonin is still bathing their wonderful bodies...but they have to disturb that beautiful natural rhythm to get to school yawning maybe even. Then we wonder why they have 'fallen ill'. Did you know the body does not just 'fall ill'. It has a 'rhyme and reason' to do what it is doing. It does not one day just think, 'ah, today I am just going to inflame myself in the tonsil area because I have so much ATP to just burn up, let's just do this'. Like seriously...and when on earth did these 'adjustments' to change become 'diseases' that indicate your child is 'sick'. Why not tweak that thinking to 'my child is manifesting tonsillitis (or a flu etc) because he/she is - not getting enough sleep, - is sat in a classroom all day long - is exposed to dry central heating all day long - lacks movement - feels stressed with starting back at school - has copious amounts of foul-smelling hand sanitizer that overwhelms his/her senses - just needs a few days off 'lazing' in bed Catch my drift? When your child 'falls sick' ask yourself what is going on, how can it be made easier on him/her? Having 'said' all that, my younger boychild (shy of 14yr) ended up 'manifesting' his shift to school after such a long break from school with long lie-ins and lots of sunshine, movement and happy times in the form of TONSILLITIS. He is someone who needs to talk, process and 'be heard'. It is of no surprise that the expression area (throat area) decides to show up as tonsillitis. So if your children are all of a 'sudden' manifesting all kinds of symptoms be mindful, do they need more sleep? Do they need more fluids, do they need to talk? ...so on. But here is a list of some fantabulous homeopathic remedies to help resolve tonsillitis. Within 24 hours this young boychild of ours with the help of homeopathic merc sol 30c, 4x in space of 24hrs was back into balance. We thought we may end up having to queue up for the current virus epidemic test but no queue-ing as it was tonsillitis. Have you tried these remedies? Do you know the tonsils are key organs in our first line of defense? They are also like a 'nursery' for our immune cells, the immune cells do quite a bit of 'growing up' in the tonsils. So removing them is really not the answer. If you have re-occurring tonsillitis it does not mean you have to remove your tonsils. This is rather primitive, especially in these times where that distancing or mask-wearing seems to be the rage, but what about keeping the tonsils? What about honoring our body parts? It is bonkers that in a world where a virus has created so much fear, the majority do not question the barbaric methods we have been using in mainstream medicine. The tonsils are the ultimate 'mask' they trap those 'nasties' (virus and bacteria) and then educate the immune system to 'grow up and show up' in it's glory. Anyway, have a look below and I hope this helps you and your loved ones this winter or seasonal change. If you have re-occurring tonsillitis then book a session with a homeopath and get that 'glitch' reset, it does not involve surgery, just answering lots of weird and wonderful questions and you are set with some remedies. To health!

16.01.2022 While psoriasis often becomes linked with gluten intolerances, that isn’t always the case. To address psoriasis, I remove these obstacles while restoring the bo...dy’s natural balance. It really becomes that simple. Take away the things that cause the problem and add those that ameliorate it. With that approach, I’ve found these strategies can naturally heal psoriasis without steroids, creams and other invasive procedures. Eat a whole food, anti-inflammatory diet. Focus on anti-inflammatory foods including wild fish and other sources of omega-3 fats, red and purple berries, dark green leafy vegetables, orange sweet potatoes and nuts. Add anti-inflammatory herbs, including turmeric, ginger and rosemary to your daily diet. Remove food sensitivities. These include gluten and dairy. Test for heavy metal toxicity. Mercury and other metals trigger or exacerbate psoriasis. Fix your gut. Your gut plays a significant role in skin health. One study found intestinal permeability (or leaky gut) can contribute to psoriasis. Yeast overgrowth, abnormal gut flora and other gut issues can also trigger or exacerbate psoriasis. If you suspect these or other issues, work with an integrative practitioner to optimize your gut health. Use the right supplements. Nutrients like fish oil, vitamin D and probiotics can help eliminate psoriasis. Also consider anti-inflammatory nutrients like quercetin, grape seed extract and rutin. Exercise regularly. One study found increased physical exercise along with dietary intervention reduced psoriasis severity in systemically treated overweight or obese patients with active psoriasis. You don’t have to go to the gym, just start moving around more. Practice deep relaxation. The proportion of psoriasis patients who believe stress affects their skin condition ranges from 37 to 78 percent, and researchers believe stress may worsen psoriasis severity and may even lengthen the time to disease clearance. Calming techniques such as yoga, deep breathing, biofeedback, and massage. Sleep for 8 hours every night. Studies show patients with psoriasis suffer from more sleep disturbances.

14.01.2022 Best ways to keep your brain young

13.01.2022 Just because it is food does it mean it is nutrition? Imagine the morning breakfast, cheerios with milk, croissant with jam and a coffee, toast and jam, microwa...ved oatmeal....pasteurised orange juice, the beige meals How can this be considered food? Those toxins, the colourings, the artificial presevatives, the salt (aka sodium chloride not real salt), the sugar alternatives that 'hitch a ride' with the so called food,, alert the immune system in the gut, they trugger the liver, they literally are like terrorists in our body. The sneak in, they are free loaders. Thank goodness for the immune system, thank good ness for the liver and it's own immune cells, thank goodness for the stomach acid, thank goodness for our lymphatic system. But these amazing systems and more can only keep us going for so long, the immune system cannot 'clear' a food colouring like it does a virus, it has to go onto a 24-7 shift. This 24-7 shift work can only last so long, there is then ongoing INFLAMMATION, ouch that is so not kind to the blood vessels, it is so not kind to the joints, it is so not kind to the brain, it is so not kind to the hormones, the endometrium, the libido, the mind. . We live in this mode for what? 20 years? 40 years? ...then the body becomes 'dis-eased'. We seek medical attention, thinking it can be 'fixed' with a pill. BUT our loyal body does not want a pill, it wants REAL food, REAL NUTRITION. The anti-inflammatories work for a while but now our liver has had enough, it can no longer keep cleaning up that trash, the free loaders, the terrorists. The loyal liver starts to make us feel irritable, it makes the cycles go out of whack but oh it is ok, there is a name for that condition it is called PMS or PCOS, peri menopause, hot flush, depression ....hmmm It is called a body depleted of REAL food, an over taxed immune system that has created fires inside the body because it was only trying to do it's job. The liver is crying out for anti oxidants and nutrient dense greens but it is not happening. The preservatives, the pesticides slip in they create chaos, but they do not care. The kids love the artificial food, the stressed out mum needs quick energy, the city worker needs his alcohol, the over worked nurse needs her coca cola.... we just keep going. (Need is the wrong word right?, do we really need? Or we choose?) No judgement here, but just something to think about for our health and the health of our loved ones. What if we just stopped, what if we asked at every meal is this NOURISHING me or ROBBING me? What if?

07.01.2022 This incredibly helpful information comes from my colleague at @the_ultrawellness_center, @elizabethbohammd. We have trillions of good bacteria that line our... skin, digestive system and also our genital urinary system. These good bacteria have a tremendous influence on our immune system. They are often the first line of defense that prevents unwanted bacteria or viruses from invading the body. When we kill off these good bacteria with antibiotics, we increase our risk of developing a secondary infection, sometimes in a different part of the body. Cranberry extract prevents the bacteria that cause bladder infections from being able to bind to the bladder wall. I usually have people avoid cranberry juice because of the excess sugar, so cranberry extract is a great alternative. Cranberry capsules are an excellent supplement that can be used for prevention. D-Mannose also prevents the bacteria that often cause urinary tract infections from adhering to your bladder wall. Studies have shown that 2 grams per day work better than even antibiotics at prevention of urinary tract infections. High levels of sugar in the diet can encourage the wrong kinds of bacteria and yeast to grow in your body and increase your risk of multiple infections. Avoid added sugar in your diet. It is important to choose a whole foods diet that is low in processed foods. Drink plenty of water, do not hold your urine, use cotton underwear, and urinate right after sexual intercourse. Whenever you urinate, the bacteria that may be in your urinary tract system are flushed out. See more

07.01.2022 Polyphenols are important dietary constituents that are often overlooked in dietary research. With the focus more often on the fat, protein, carbohydrate, vitam...in and mineral content, these modulating polyphenols are left out of the discussion. These polyphenols have a very important role in mental health. They play an imperative role in addressing inflammation of the brain and nervous system and they can also manipulate the microbiome which we know can influence our mood. Here is a great review of the effect of polyphenols on mental health done by Jessica Bayes - Nutritionist, David Sibbritt and Bio Concepts alumni Janet Schloss: https://academic.oup.com//article-abstra/11/3/602/5613091. Jessica is exploring the role of polyphenols in the Mediterranean Diet on depression. Given her initial research, which I'm sure many of you in clinic would echo the same sentiments, that our patient's diets leave much to be desired: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32861952/. Australia has a number of great researchers in nutrition and it is exciting to see more high quality research coming out from the next generation. Michael O.

06.01.2022 There’s no evidence that we need milk to strengthen our bones. The federal government tells us that milk is a perfect food that Americans should lap up da...ily, three glasses to be exactin spite of a large (and growing) body of research showing its lack of benefits and awful side effects. I agree, it is nature’s perfect foodbut only if you are a calf! Humans are the only species that continues to drink milk after weaning.
