23.01.2022 2020 AGM Update, Monday 14/12/20 A huge thank you to life member Dickie Otto for facilitating and all those who attended. We had the great honour of awarding long time clubman Matt Gallen with life membership tonight, for over a dozen years of service to the club.... Here is our elected committee for 2021: President - Aidan Shaw Vice President - Gary Hogan Secretary - Steve Pereira Treasurer - Kapil Sharma Committee - Amanda Clarke, Avin McKnight, Paul Swart, Braden Ford, Josh Carr, Morgan Gooley We look forward to a packed 2021 calendar and continuing to provide sporting, recreational, and social opportunities to the community of Christmas Island. We will be publishing the calendar of events early in 2021: watch this space. Further to this, we’d like to update the community regarding 2021 Senior Country Week. Due to difficulties securing flights, we were unable to get more than half our team to and from Perth to participate in the tournament. Due to this, we won’t be fielding a team at CW 2021. This being said, we have every intention of getting the ball rolling early next year and fundraising our socks off to represent the island in January 2022. All new and returning members, we encourage you to get on board and support us with any of the many events we will have running throughout 2021. This wonderful community is the life blood of our club. Our first committee meeting will be Monday the 8th of February at 7pm. All members are welcome to attend, and anyone interested in joining the committee is also welcome to do so. Many hands make light work. Onwards and upwards.

20.01.2022 MTBs def. THE VAGABONDS With another glorious day for cricket it was game on With a fair bit hinging on the result quite a few spectators were excited to witness what was about to unfold The MTBs won the toss and elected to bat and bat they did ... With Kapil in an absolute purple patch at the minute it wasnt a great start for the Vagas bowling attack ! They were carted to every part of the park Kaps retired early with a great knock of 32 N/O Steve also kept the run rate kicking along with a classy knock of 37 the drinks break couldn’t happen quick enough for the Vagas Tommy Hicks went out with Steve after drinks and he was sent back to the showers rather smartly Young Josh clipped a few away but the runs dried up slowly for the MTB’S and they posted a competitive total of 110 Junior Bird ended up with a very tidy 3/11 to keep the Vagas in the match Rocky and Nana started the innings for the Vagas and Rocky was looking the goods but he got trapped in front on 4 and Nana followed him shortly after Mus & Fiz tried hard and come up with a hard earned 17 and the Vagas were in trouble !! Enter Swarty with all hopes pinned on him for a quick fire knock he looked the goods but Kapil brought the Vagas back to earth when he had Swarty caught behind on 19 Young Birdy couldn’t do the same damage as he had done with ball and it was looking pretty grim for the Vagas Khai was looking like the saviour and played some masterful shots only to go down to Kaps c&b on 16 With the only Johari and Azri left they had a massive job on there hands to sneak a win in for the Vagas !! Enter young Morgan Gooley (Custard) who took an absolute screamer of catch off Gazza’s bowling to end the match the crowd was absolutely stunned no more than young Morgs himself Stunning day of cricket and has kept the comp right on a knifes edge Thanks Josh Carr for umping and Braydo with the score book love them young blokes BOG went to Kaps and Joshy Carr was our major sponser great stuff Tillys Tankard was awarded to Jnr Bird for his figures of 3/11 and a big Thankyou to Shorefire for his ongoing support with that one Next week is Vagas v FFB and believe me there is a lot riding on that result as our season is coming to a close it couldn’t be scripted any better Get up to cricket Sunday arvs and support your local clubs not that hard Cheers to Gaz & Amanda for running the bar as well as playing in the match epic

19.01.2022 Thank you CI community for supporting Mitch through his first experience playing in junior country week today, especially to Tim Briggs and Vanessa Goh , Nixon, Tahlie and the Sharma family for getting along and cheering for the young fella! He made a gallant 10 not out with the bat after his outstanding effort in the field. Esperance defeated Eastern Greenfields today, chasing down the runs with one wicket in hand. Shout out to the Esperance coach Greg, who awarded Mitch... with the match ball for his endeavour in all facets of the game today. Tomorrow Esperance take on Broome at Hamer Park in Mount Lawley. 08.01.2022 MTBs (9/95) crowned champions as they defeat Vagabonds (7/91) by 4 runs. In a game that was well-supported by our wonderful community and played within the spirit of the game, it is a timely reminder of how lucky we are to get out there and have a crack together. The two skippers did brilliantly out there today, Fiz’ field placements and individual contributions a standout for the Vagas, while club treasurer Stephen Kentwell also ran a tight ship and restricted scoring o...ptions for his opposition. Congratulations to the MTBs for getting over the line in the end, in a tight match up. As always, it’s our volunteers who make it work for us and so we’d like to extend a huge thank you to Gary and Amanda, Avin, Josh and Braden, and all the other great club persons who ensured the day ran smoothly. Best on Ground : Tom Hicks was outstanding with the bat today, came to the rescue and stood up when it mattered the most. Also had a ripper day keeping wicket for the MTBs. Tilly’s Tankard : I tend to write these anonymously, but on this occasion I’ll stand up and say what an honour it is to receive this award, sponsored all year by Shorefire. Mike Tilmouth, the namesake of this award, and the special place this club holds in the hearts of my family and I, make it a significant honour to be recognised for Effort, Endeavour, and Enthusiasm. If anyone can teach me to catch I’m always willing to learn new skills! (looking at you Nana) Congrats to the legend Shaffie Kawi on winning the Shorefire lures in the raffle! Our thoughts are with club captain Paul Swartand his wonderful family after he experienced a bit of an injury out in the middle today. Swarty plays a very important role in our club and we wish him the speediest of recoveries. We now turn our attention to Country Week 2021. If you’re a resident of Christmas Island, are fully committed to developing the game, the club and the culture on CI, please feel free to get in touch with us and express your interest. 07.01.2022 Gotta love a good trivia night!

05.01.2022 Fair bit on the line up at the club today with the searching for there second win of season With the bats having a near on depleted squad and the MTB’S at full strength it was always gonna be a tussle lost the toss and were sent in with the rain steadily drizzling They got of to a bit of a flyer . Luke Carr played the match of his life and was unlucky not to get a mention post match his brother chipped in with a quick fire 20 smashing them to all parts of the ground wic...kets kept falling around Luke duck shooting season was officially opened !!! Fossy held the fort for a couple of overs with Luke until the young man lost his middle stump Enter the skip of the bats Braydo who played outa of skin to get through to drinks !!! He played with instruction and flare got a few of to the boundary and the bats were looking at the 100 mark but enter Kapil The master Indian took 4 scalps for not many and runs the bats runs dried up fairly quickly Braydo finishing on 28 with an over to go !! With the change of innings the weather decided to do the same it got wet fairly quickly!!! The MTB’S went for the kill and it payed off Kapil and Steve smashed what there was of the bats bowling attack to all parts of the ground To be honest it was a pleasure to watch Kaps retired on 43 and Tom was sent out to finish the job alongside Steve They both played some first class shots and chased down the measly total of 86 set by the bats in the 9 over !!! A comprehensive win to the MTB’S and they will take some beating!!! BOG went to Kaps for his 4 for not many and his masterful innings of 43 not out Tillys was clamed by the bats young skipper who of his own accord batted like Bradmen !! Great match shame it was wet Rocky did his best at umpiring Rads handle the score book with ease and Amanda & Gaz kept everyone rehydrated great day should be an absolute belter with the Vagas v MTB’S next week See more
