25.01.2022 This is amazing! So far, the #EndCOVIDForALL campaign has reached over 7.8m people! And 150 organisations have taken part because we believe that the world’s most vulnerable people need more help during this pandemic. Here’s why Janet Cousens, Act for Peace’s CEO, is supporting the campaign: COVID-19 could push over 70 million people into extreme poverty. The communities we work with are without the safety nets that we have in Australia and will experience the worst of the pandemic. Australia is able to help and our government’s actions count in fact, they’re essential. To join the #EndCOVIDForAll campaign, please follow this link and pledge your church's belief that Australia should continue to provide vital support to vulnerable nations: https://bit.ly/2PjRXOB
24.01.2022 Instead of going into hibernation for the duration of the outbreak, many religious communities have instead expanded their role in the lives of their members and the wider community, getting together online, on the phone, and in other physically distant yet emotionally connected ways. 23.01.2022 As the coronavirus pandemic spreads, the result is likely to be devastating for families living as refugees in developing countries, like Jordan. Let’s not abandon refugees when they need us most. Will you support Syrians in Jordan, like Rima and her family, with the food, medicine and hygiene kits needed to survive this crisis? Donate here: https://bit.ly/2y3B3OL
20.01.2022 Our partner organisation in Gaza, the NECC, runs a health program that helps families with urgent medical needs. And the dedicated woman who coordinates that program, Lubna, wants to share this with you: "The economic situation in Gaza is very harsh right now, as many people here are facing unemployment and living in poverty. And the Covid-19 outbreak has put additional pressure on the people here, with many of those who had laboring work having to stay at home. This means th...at many families cannot afford to buy even the most basic needs, like food. And so we’ve seen an increase in the number of children who are suffering from anemia and malnutrition. To make matters worse, the long-standing blockade that Israel has imposed on Gaza has put a lot of pressure on our health system; creating a perfect storm of food insecurity, poverty, a high unemployment rate, and a severe shortage of drugs and medical supplies. But we are standing in solidarity and facing these difficulties and hardships together. Health workers are battling the spread of coronavirus and doing their best to support the families that are at such great risk right now."
19.01.2022 You can help mothers who are refugees by giving the gift of emergency food rations to a mother and her family this Mother's Day. The emergency ration box contains enough staples to feed a family of six for an entire week, helping a mother keep her family fed and healthy. Or to consider a range of other gifts that Mum will love while also bringing hope to mums around the world who are living in conflict and disaster areas, follow the link: https://bit.ly/2WlGl25
18.01.2022 This year, life has changed for all of us. As the world battles this pandemic, sharing God's love through the Christmas Bowl has never been more important. Thank you for joining churches across denominations to respond to some of the most urgent crises of our time.
16.01.2022 Zimbabwe, one of the poorest countries in the world, is currently experiencing its worst drought in 35 years. Changing weather patterns due to climate change mean farmers are struggling to grow enough food using conventional farming methods. Famine is looming with millions suffering from undernourishment in rural areas. Coronavirus poses a great risk to undernourished people. Undernourishment weakens immune systems; leaving people vulnerable to complications and deaths from ...infectious diseases. Your support helps Act for Peace’s partner, Christian Care, teach farmers Conservation Farming techniques that improve yields by up to 1200%; ensuring people living in drought-prone areas in Zimbabwe can harvest enough crops to feed their family, even when the rains fail. Please share God's love through a generous gift here: https://bit.ly/2y3B3OL
16.01.2022 Through your support, our partner organisation, OfERR, helps Sri Lankan refugees living in India to return home and start rebuilding their lives again. In communities across the nation, OfERR helps Sri Lankans access the skills, resources and services needed to start over. They also run ‘welcome groups’ that support returnees from the moment they arrive home. With the country in lockdown in the fight against COVID-19, OfERR is reaching out to members of these ’ welcome groups’, and asking these people to identify the most vulnerable families in their area. OfERR then links those families with urgently needed support. It's wonderful to see our partners supporting those with urgent needs during this difficult time.
15.01.2022 Thank you so much for being part of the 70th anniversary of the Christmas Bowl. Your generous support is helping struggling farmers in Zimbabwe to grow enough food for their families, enabling communities in Vanuatu to stay safe during cyclones, like the recent Cyclone Harold, and providing medical care to those living as refugees in Jordan. Do you have any photos from Christmas Bowl events or services? If so we would love to see them! You can comment here and share them on this post, or you can send them to: [email protected]
15.01.2022 In South Sudan, the government estimates that 80% of the population don’t have access to water. But our partner organisation on the ground, Norwegian Church Aid, is providing families with safe, drinking water - one of life’s most basic needs. Donate today to give people in this war-torn country the training, supplies and tools needed to keep clean water flowing to the community long into the future: https://bit.ly/2y3B3OL

13.01.2022 At a time when the Philippines is still responding to the COVID-19 emergency, Tropical Depression Ambo, also known as Vongfong, thrashed the nation and destroyed homes and livelihoods. Please pray for our partner organisation on the ground, the NCCP, and the important work they are doing for the people of this nation at this critical time.
12.01.2022 Three decades of brutal civil war in Sri Lanka forced over 2 million people to flee their homes in search of safety. Many of the poorest and most vulnerable families fled by boat to India, a developing country where they have limited rights. The war is now over. And through your generous gifts, our partner organisation in Sri Lanka, OfERR, is helping families living in Indian refugee camps to return home, begin rebuilding their lives and enjoy peacetime once again. OfERR helps refugees to access important citizenship documents, find safe and secure housing when they return to Sri Lanka, and get the training that can help them to earn an income to support their families. 12.01.2022 It is August 19th - World Humanitarian Day and today we’re asking for your help to draw attention to the needs of the world’s most vulnerable communities during this pandemic. We've created a special Facebook ‘mask filter’ for mobile for you to put on, share to your Facebook profile, and include the #EndCOVIDForAll hashtag. Access the filter by clicking here: https://bit.ly/2EcUTKO... As global infections of COVID-19 have surpassed 20 million, let’s send a message to government decision-makers in Canberra that we believe Australia should do more to help the world’s most vulnerable people get through this disaster.
11.01.2022 The Kingdom of Tonga is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world for natural disasters. When seas and storms batter this beautiful island chain, they can take lives, destroy livelihoods and destroy communities. Through your support, our partner organisation on the ground is providing communities with the tools, skills and knowledge needed to survive when the next disaster strikes. Local heroes are trained in first aid, how to evacuate safely, and how to prepare food and water so that they can survive during a calamity. Share God's love through a generous gift here: https://bit.ly/2y3B3OL
09.01.2022 Three decades of conflict and instability have had a dramatic impact on children’s education and wellbeing in Afghanistan, and girls are still fighting for equal access to education. Please pray that girls can safely participate in education in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis.... Please hope and pray for a peaceful settlement and end to the protracted crises in Afghanistan. Please pray for continued support and resources for Act for Peace’s partner, Community World Service Asia (CWSA) and their important mission in the nation.
08.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who prayed yesterday for communities affected by coronavirus. Isn't prayer a powerful way for Christians to come together? Will you also please join us and add your church to the growing list of organisations asking the Australian Government to provide vital support to vulnerable nations? Help #EndCOVIDForAll by following the link: https://bit.ly/2PjRXOB
05.01.2022 When Rev. Frank Byatt began the Christmas Bowl in 1949, he knew that when Jesus called us to love our neighbours as ourselves, he meant everyone on God’s Earth. Life in post-war Australia was hard. People didn’t have a lot to spare. Yet Frank, and thousands of others, shared what they did have with their neighbours across the seas. Even though life has just got harder for us here in Australia, can we again share what we have with our neighbours around the world in even more urgent need right now? Share God's love through a generous gift here: https://bit.ly/2y3B3OL
04.01.2022 The people of Zimbabwe need our prayers right now. Families are facing a combination of deadly problems; including, a fierce drought, a nation-wide food shortage, a failed health care system, the spread of COVID-19, and now an outbreak of malaria. - Please pray for all the families who are struggling to put food on the table. - Please pray for the staff of Christian Care, our local partner organisation, who are working with farmers in drought-stricken Zimbabwe. - Please pray for the nation’s government to show wisdom and compassion during this difficult time.
04.01.2022 The National Council of Churches in Australia would like to encourage church leaders and Christians to hold a special day of prayer for the coronavirus pandemic this Sunday, the 2nd of August. For those who would like to take part, Bishop Philip Huggins has offered this prayer: "Gracious God, trusting in your providence and presence, ... we bring our prayer for an end to this pandemic. We pray for your strengthening of all those committed to offering costly leadership during this crisis. We pray for all who are ill. We pray for those anxious about getting ill. We pray for those full of grief. We remember those who have died. Aware of our fragility, we pray for your grace to sustain us as we do what we can to end this pandemic. Your compassionate, peaceful and creative response to many crises is our model, including in our Sunday Gospel (Mt . 14: 13-21). As we worship in resurrection faith on Sunday August 2, we offer our heartfelt prayer in your Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN." See more
04.01.2022 Easter is going to look a lot different for us all this year and with that brings a lot of stress and uncertainty. So, we wanted to share this video from our friends at CWS as an encouragement to you as we head into the Easter weekend.
02.01.2022 With the Philippines now in lockdown in the fight against COVID-19, our partner organisation on the ground, the NCCP, has been distributing emergency food packs to help local families with urgent needs during this devastating crisis. We ask that you join us and: - Please pray for the families throughout the Philippines who are struggling to survive. - Please pray, too, for the safety of the NCCP staff that are so active at this difficult time. Thank you.
