25.01.2022 150 more police will be on the beat and on the roads in the new North Coast Police Region under the Palaszczuk Government plan for better community safety. What’s more, they will be fully funded. Unlike the LNP, we will make sure they have the equipment such as police cars and body cameras they need to do their job.

23.01.2022 Hugely-deserved recognition for Deception Bay local John Russell - he has been awarded an OAM. John was an Antarctic engineer who worked on expeditions in the 1940’s and 1950’s, including the 1954 expedition to establish Mawson Station. He is a member of the Deception Bay RSL Sub-Branch, and a true inspiration to a generation of young people.

22.01.2022 Holidays are nearly over, and if you have a Preppie like Arabella Whiting getting ready for school, here’s how you can help them ease into the classroom. * Make sure you share your kid’s kindy transition statement with their school. This will help the teachers support your child into Prep. * Have some positive conversations with your child about the starting school. * Check out earlychildhood.qld.gov.au//transition-to-s/starting-school for some simple tips and information.... * Check school websites for uniform shop opening hours, the tuckshop, school activities and calendars, and positive behaviour expectations. * Download the secure QParents app or using the secure online QParents portal it’s full of information about school in Queensland. All the best to all parents of Preppies!

20.01.2022 One of the most exciting things for me in the announcement of 2,025 extra police personnel for Queensland, is the school-based police support officers. We will be employing 125 police liaison officers and school-based police support officers. I have listened to our local high schools for some time about the need for school-based officers, and I look forward to seeing these officers working with our local kids in our local schools!

20.01.2022 I will be pushing to get one of the brand new 25 mobile police beats that was announced by the Palaszczuk Government, based in our area. The 25 mobile police vans will be part of our investment that includes an additional 2,025 police personnel over five years These mobile police vans will take police into the heart of the community so that people see more police, more often.... From these mobile police vans officers will be able to take crime reports, victims’ statements, conduct field interviews and above all, boost safety with a more visible police presence.

19.01.2022 It’s the school holidays, so Guy’s dad and grandad took him for a bush walk this morning to the summit of Mt Ngungun on the Sunshine Coast. Make sure you enjoy the best of what we have to offer in our own backyard!

19.01.2022 Great news for QLD There will be 2,025 more police personnel over the next five years under Labor. That will include 1,450 Queenslanders in blue shirts! Just as important, there will be at least 50 police officers into Child Protection Investigation Units and 125 people as police liaison and school-based support officers.

18.01.2022 I'm excited to say that the Deception Bay PCYC have just received $34,000 through the Gambling Community Benefit Fund. This will help get them some new gym equipment. I spoke with Kris Parker, the Relief Youth Club Manager about what these funds will mean for them. PCYC Deception Bay

15.01.2022 We don’t want to go back to the days of cut, sack and sell. But that is what it would be if the LNP got back in.

14.01.2022 A timely reminder. We keep safe by having a high rate of testing.

14.01.2022 Congratulations to Melissa Redsell, our Moreton Regional Council Volunteer of the Year! Melissa is a founder of A Brave Life, an organisation working with teenage and young mums. She had been working as a mentor for 5 years with the Aspire Program at Deception Bay High School, supporting young mothers as they finish their Senior Certificate. Well deserved recognition for one of our crucial volunteers in our community!

13.01.2022 How do you find the NBN and internet speed in North Lakes. Let me know what you think about it. I’m calling on the Federal Government and NBN Co to put North Lakes first in line for the new fibre-to-the-home upgrade of the national broadband network I see two million Australian households will be able to demand fibre-to-the-home internet by 2023 as part of a $3.5 billion upgrade of the National Broadband Network in residential streets.... North Lakes needs to be first because we have more workers and entrepreneurs working from home or home-based businesses than anywhere else in the region. Locals like Vikram and Branden have told me this week they need a fast and reliable network so they get on with their business.

The unit is being built right here in Narangba by Varley, for Heart of Australia who will deliver the service for Resources Safety and Health Queensland. Dr Rolf Gomes and I had a quick look at the start of the work and we’ll be back for the unveiling of the Mobile Health Unit!

08.01.2022 I’ve met with many business owners around our electorate of Bancroft who have received the Queensland Government’s Small Business Adaption Grant. 05.01.2022 BMD Constructions will be starting works on the Deception Bay Road interchange in the next few weeks, and this is what you’ll see happening first: There will be clearing of vegetation on the road reserve next to, but not in, Freshwater National Park. TMR will be planting and maintaining trees at Council offset site at Lacey’s Creek. They will put in three trees to every mature koala fodder tree they remove.... Koala fencing will go up to stop them crossing the road at this dangerous point. Barriers and cages will go up along the highway at the points where the pillars for one of the two new bridges will be constructed. Earthworks and drilling will start, and the highway will be slowed to 80km. Feel free to contact us on 3448-2100 or [email protected] for more information.

05.01.2022 With school holidays and the festive season about to begin. It's important that we remain safe and vigilant on the roads. Each year, about 1200 people are killed in crashes on Australian roads, and another 44,000 are seriously injured. To pledge your support for National Road Safety week visit www.roadsafetyweek.com.au

04.01.2022 BREAKING: From 1am on October 1, more people will be able to meet their friends in a local beer garden or outdoor café. We’re doubling the numbers of people who can gather in these places as long as it is outdoors. More people will be allowed in our theme parks and zoos, and end of year school and sport events can increase from 500 to 1000 people outdoors with a COVID-safe checklist. Outdoor stadiums will also be able to increase their capacities from 50% to 75%.

01.01.2022 I congratulate all of the Year 12's graduating this week. Usually I attend graduation ceremonies in person but this year is a bit different for all of us. I've written to the Class of 2020 and look forward to working with the bright minds of our future.
