24.01.2022 In the Mountain’s Shadow The final resting place of more than 2,000 people, our client, Broadford Cemetery is located in Victoria, Australia, with a picturesque mountain with the unfortunate name of Mount Disappointment providing its backdrop. Broadford Cemetery’s first burial was in 1858, and it continues to function it to this day almost 163 years later! The district to which it caters had been home to the indigenous Taungorong people for thousands of years before the... first European settlers moved in. Formally established in 1867, the cemetery’s Trust has ensured that the cemetery is the quiet soul of its locality through the eras. It’s part and parcel of the community. Even though most of the cemetery records were lost in the 1950s, Broadford Cemetery flourishes in beauty today. Migrants who have made the area their home have helped to shape Broadford and the cemetery, contributing to its multi-ethnic and diverse community heritage. https://chronicle.rip/the-revival-of-broadford-cemetery-th/

19.01.2022 Brotherhood in Independence In Kalibata, Indonesia, we find the National Main Heroes Cemetery which is the resting place of those involved in one of the most significant events of the nation’s recent history. These cemetery photos were documented by brilliant Tom Fisk. Built in 1953 and opened the following year, the National Main Heroes Cemetery is home to more than 7,000 burials of those who lost their lives in, and veterans of, the Indonesian War of Independence. Not jus...t Indonesians, but members of the Imperial Japanese Army are interred here, too. The Indonesian War of Independence was fought against the Dutch who had colonised the nation, but was supported by up to 3,000 Japanese volunteer troops. A third of these troops died, another third returned to Japan, and the rest were naturalised in Indonesia after independence. Fun fact For the most part, the graves are facing towards the Kaaba in Mecca, the Muslim direction of prayer.

15.01.2022 Kiss of Death At Poblenou Cemetery, in Barcelona, you’ll find three sections of this entrancing, aesthetically-dazzling burial ground built in the mid-18th century. The three sections themselves each reflect a different tier of society, telling various stories of the city and its history. The first, a labyrinth of 7-storey high burial niches, representing Spanish tradition. The second features exquisite neoclassical and neo-Gothic tombs, mausoleums and Gothic-style chapels ... built by the richest families of the Catalan city of Barcelona. Poblenou’s third section is exhibits a combination of niches and monuments, as well as the fossar the commoner’s resting place, where the poorer members of Barcelona’s population were buried. The image above is the tombstone of Josep Llaudet, aptly named Kiss of Death, depicts Josep’s exit from the physical realm and welcome into world of the afterlife. Arguably Poblenou’s most famous sight, it was designed by Joan Fontbernat in 1930. #chronicle #chroniclecemeterysoftware #taphophilesofinstagram #travelingtaphophile #cemetery #cemeteriesofinstagram #cemeteriesandgraveyards #cemeteryphotography #cemeterylovers #cemetery_nation #cemetery_shots #cemeterywandering #cemeterybeauty #cemeteryshots #cemeteryart #cemetery_lovers #graveyard ##graveyardbeauty #graveyardphotography #graveyard_shots #graveyard_photogroup #graveyard_fanatics #orderofthegooddeath #project_necropolis #aj_graveyards #grave_affair #AngelofDeath #barcelona #spain

05.01.2022 The Old Necropolis Powazki Cemetery, situated among the western districts of Warsaw, Poland, holds a long history marked by stunning and gloriously sculpted monuments and headstones. Established 230 years ago, in the year 1790, this Polish resting place of the dead is the most notable cemetery in the country’s capital. Nobleman Melchior Szymanowski donated the land on which Powazski Cemetery stands. Initially, the space covered 2.5 hectares, but this grew to 43 hectares (11...0 acres). With over a million graves here, there’s no shortage of eye candy for the taphophile. Renowned sculptures, both Polish and foreign, marked eras in history through the headstones and monuments that they so perfectly and artfully created. The graves of notable individuals from Polish history can be found along the Avenue of the Distinguished. On All Saints Day and Zaduszki, vigils are held in the Catholic cemeteries, as well as in the vicinity’s Protestant, Muslim, Jewish, and Orthodox ones. #chronicle #cemeterysoftwaremanagement #cemetery #memory #tapohilia #taphopiles_only #cemeteriesandgraveyards #cemeteryphotography #cemeterylovers #cemetery_nation #cemetery_shots #cemeterywandering #cemeterybeauty #cemeteryshots #cemeteryart #cemetery_lovers #graveyard #graveyardbeauty #graveyardphotography #powazki #poland #warsaw

02.01.2022 Built on Generosity, Organised Efficiently Located just outside of Whittlesea, less than an hour’s drive away from the Melbourne city centre, lies the Yan Yean Cemetery in all its idyllic splendour. Tucked among rolling green hills, this serene place of rest spans ten acres with over 8500 interments on the grounds. When the Yan Yean Reservoir embankment was being constructed back in the 1850s, the death of a labourer meant that the land saw its first interment. Soon afterwa...rds, 10 acres of this land was generously donated for use as a cemetery, by one Dr. William Ronald. If you’re looking for the oldest headstone at Yan Yean Cemetery, you’ll have to look behind the old, two-trunked oak true in Compartment 2. Constructed in 1858, the headstone marks the Johnston family grave. William Johnston’s interment was the first official burial at the institution, marked by burial number 0001.
