25.01.2022 Most of the information we have been told about COVID-19 has been limited as even the experts dont know much about it. Red Table Talk have an in-depth discussion with a disease investigator who has been studying COVID-19 and spends one hour breaking it down into simple terms. I found this very interesting and I hope you watch it as education is power. Dont fall into fear thinking it is inevitable that you will catch it. The probability is low if you are healthy. Fear will cause stress and affect your immune system. Watch it and let me know what you think. Stay positive

22.01.2022 This is a great stretch called The shrug for shoulder and neck pain from my friend Jess. Check it out.

21.01.2022 NECK, SHOULDER & BACK PAIN AS A RESULT OF CARRYING YOUR HANDBAG ON ONE SHOULDER WHY SHOULDNT YOU CARRY YOUR HANDBAG THIS WAY? Many women carry their handba...gs on one shoulder, and they tend to favour the dominant, stronger, or non-injured one. Even if the bag is empty and very light, the natural slope of the shoulder means they are going to have to elevate the scapula/shoulder girdle with contraction of the upper shoulders and neck to prevent the bag from sliding off. This isometric contraction overuses and abuses the muscles of the neck. If the bag is heavy, its even worse because a more powerful muscular contraction is needed, and the strap of the bag digs into the musculature of the shoulder, causing direct physical irritation and cutting off local blood circulation. WHERE DOES THE PAIN COME FROM? Due to your bodys efforts to redistribute the extra weight, your muscles tense more and as such become stiff. The trapezius muscle and the muscles that go from your shoulder to the base of your neck, which sits on top of your shoulders, may spasm and therefore tighten, resulting in a lot of stiffness in the upper back, shoulder area and neck. This may lead to pain when turning your head and the development of arthritis in the lower neck. Some may even develop tension headaches from constantly carrying heavy handbags. As the muscles in your shoulder and neck area spasm, it can result in pain from the back of your skull that radiates around to the front. ADVICE Its better to either wear the bag across the body or to use a backpack.

20.01.2022 I do not like foam rolling on the ITB as it is painful. I focus on correcting structural alignment and the tightness goes away. I do recommend foam rolling on the larger muscles like the glutes, hamstrings and paraspinals.

20.01.2022 Do you eat for physical appearance or for nourishment (health and nutrition)? Do you have a bowel movement everyday? Once, twice or three times a day? Do you have aches and pains?... Are you always tired? Headaches? Food is medicine and you are what you eat. According to chinese medicine, its better for your body to eat according to the seasons and eat from every colour group to nourish your organs. Spleen / stomach - yellow and orange, sweet foods Lung / colon - white , spicy foods Kidney - black and salty foods Liver - green and sour foods Heart - red and bitter foods I found this video about Will Smith and his family interesting. On the outside they look healthy and beautiful yet they all have serious issues with food. Once their test results came back, they had leaky gut, mineral Deficiencies eg B vitamins, iron, vitamin D, Jada had parasites.

17.01.2022 Do you suffer from poor posture or slouch? Here are 10 simple exercises to help you.

17.01.2022 Improper breathing mechanics can lead to compression of the lower spine. When the pelvis tilts forward and the diaphragm tilts back (typical poor posture), each breath, instead of creating stability for the spine, creates compression.

16.01.2022 Tips to prevent slouching posture - be aware of how you are sitting. Bring a rolled towel to work and place it in the curved part of your lower back. When you start to slouch, the towel will dig into your back and warn you to straighten up. ... - take deep breaths into your lower tummy (lower abdomen should bulge outwards) not short breaths into your chest. Exhale and breathe out (tummy should depress). - when sitting down, make sure your feet are shoulder width apart, splay your butt cheeks and gently place your bottom onto the seat. You should notice your core muscles are activated and then slide back into your seat. - sit tall so your sternum is up, your rhomboids are pulled together and your traps are relaxed. Imagine there is a rope at the top of your head pulling it upwards and then tuck your chin in as if you are holding an orange under your chin. Other effective ways to improve posture and reverse slouching

15.01.2022 PAIN CAUSED BY STERNOCLEIDOMASTOID What SCM Pain or Sternocleidomastoid Muscle? The SCM or the Sternocleidomastoid Muscle is one of the largest muscles of the... neck. This muscle is divided into two parts. It begins at the skull just behind the ears. From there, it forms two parts of which one attaches to the sternum or the breastbone and the other attaches to the clavicle or the collar bone. SCM or the Sternocleidomastoid Muscle is located just underneath the skin and can be visualized when moving the neck completely to one side. Since an individual moves the neck and the shoulders many times during the day hence this muscle is used extensively by the body. This makes it prone to overuse and this results in what we call as SCM Pain or the Sternocleidomastoid Pain. Putting stress to these muscles, having abnormal sitting posture, or sudden movements of the neck or shoulder like in a motor vehicle accident can cause SCM Pain or Sternocleidomastoid Pain. What are the Pain Patterns of SCM Pain or Sternocleidomastoid Pain? When we speak of SCM Pain or Sternocleidomastoid Pain, it becomes important to understand the pain patterns of it as the SCM muscle is divided into two parts and both parts have different pain patterns. Pain in the Sternal Part of SCM or the Sternocleidomastoid Muscle: The sternal division of the SCM or the Sternocleidomastoid muscle may cause pain to the cheek which can be mistaken for a case of trigeminal neuralgia which is a condition in which a nerve irritation causes intense facial pain. In some cases, there may be pain to the breast bone. It can also cause pain deep in the eye resembling pain from sinusitis. It can cause pain in the tongue when swallowing food

13.01.2022 If you have to keep taking medication for pain and there is no long term change or improvement then it doesnt work. It is only a bandaid and not treating the cause. The crackdown is in response to thousands of deaths linked to prescription opioids - almost 100 each month in Australia. Despite continued tightening of restrictions to opioid access in recent years, prescriptions have continued to rise. There were 15.42 million scripts dispensed in 2016-17, an increase from 13....08 million since 2012-13. https://www.smh.com.au//painkiller-packs-cut-down-to-size-

11.01.2022 How much nature do you need to make you feel good? 120 minutes per week apparently. Any less doesnt provide benefit. It can lower blood pressure and stress hormone levels, reduce nervous system arousal, enhance immune system function, increase self-esteem, reduce anxiety, improve mood, and reduced feelings of isolation. https://bit.ly/2XojhjN... I got my one hour of hula in the park today. 30 minutes stretching in the sun at school Pickup. How are you tracking?

10.01.2022 Have you noticed how much you sit all day - at the office, in the car driving, at the dining table, for hours watching tv or on your phone/iPad? Its important to move all our joints and lubricate them with synovial fluid. I encourage my clients to stretch and move each joint by doing 8 circles in each direction, daily squatting and exercise. If you dont use it, you lose it. Its like putting WD40 on those stuck areas. ... Asians and Africans squat a lot and have strong hips and legs and rarely complain of back pain.

10.01.2022 The new fad at the moment is Intermittent Fasting. This has been done for centuries by Asians . I do a 6/18 fast where I eat between 12-6pm and fast for 18 hours. Others do 23 hr fast and only eat once a day. I did this when I was at a meditation retreat. Others fast during Ramadan for days. Research shows intermittent fasting for three days resets your immune system. Longer periods reduce inflammation and improve detoxification. Its also great for weight loss. I have lost... 6kgs in 7 weeks , Im eating what I normally eat just in a shorter time frame and havent done any extra exercise as I was on holidays for 5 weeks in USA. I normally put on weight when I go abroad on holidays. If you want more information or research on this topic, watch Dr Eric Bergs Youtube videos or read Dr Jason Fungs books - The Complete Guide to Fasting and The Obesity Code. This video shows Sadhguru does a 23 hr fast and sleeps between 2-4 hrs a day and the health benefits. He has been teaching this for over 40 years.

04.01.2022 I like Dr Eric Bergs videos because he explains things so simply. 02.01.2022 One of my clients asked me how do you stay so positive and calm during these uncertain times? How do you stay healthy and do self care when everyone around you is sick/unwell? Here are some of my tips. 1. Pray and meditate. ... Every night before I go to sleep, I pray to God and I hand over my stress and worries. When I wake, I meditate and send healing to myself and the world. 2. Get vitamin D I try and get 20 minutes a day. I hang up the washing , do gardening, sit in my chair and read or have a cup of green tea. 3. Listen to beautiful music . I play healing music in my clinic all day, I have playlist on Spotify thats on while Im cooking or pottering around the house. I listen to 528hz music for healing.I have Polynesian music in my hula classes. I have a playlist of all my favourite songs in the car. Makes me happy to sing along. https://www.facebook.com/MeilanMauritsRise/videos/892324927941413/ 4. Spending quality time with my son. I work hard during the week and chill with my son on the weekend. We always have fun things to do and plenty of laughs. 5. Im conscious of what I put in and on my body. I avoid chemicals as much as possible whether it be cleaning products, washing detergent, body products and makeup. I shop at the local markets as much as possible . I drink about 2-3L of filtered water daily on a metal bottle (no plastic) and try to have home cooked meals. 6. I try and surround myself with positive, like minded people. Toxicity can really drain your energy and mindset. 7. Avoid the news. I do not watch mainstream tv or listen to the radio as they always talk about bad news and drive fear. 8. I journal daily and also write 5 things Im grateful for. I purge all the thoughts in my brain onto my page. 9. Be proactive about health. I get regular natural therapy treatments, get active everyday with hula, Zumba, yoga and walking and practice mindfulness by intentionally creating the world I want to life in. 10. Do things that you love. I love dancing, gardening, eating, travelling and chilling out reading or watching a good movie.

02.01.2022 So many people tell me that life sucks, their sick of always being in pain etc. A diagnosis is not you , its just a label someone has given you. Its not part of you. To have a beautiful, meaningful life means change your way of thinking and developing an inner relationship with yourself. Your body will always tell you whats going on. ... Question is - are you listening. Its important to create :- - me time, I call it rebalance time - regular exercise - pray /meditate - journal and practice gratitude - positive self talk - be part of a community and be of service
