25.01.2022 The past financial year presented many challenges - not least from COVID-19. Nevertheless, efforts continued community-wide to sustainably manage land, water, ...plants and animals in the Burdekin Dry Tropics region of North Queensland. This animation highlights just some of the ways in which our work benefited landscapes, livelihoods and communities. None of these achievements would have been possible without support from our major funding partners and many collaborators across the region. Here's to more successes during 2020-21 and beyond. 20.01.2022 New record-keeping and minimum training requirements for chemical use From 19 June 2020, the requirement to make and keep records of chemical use and new minimum training requirements has been extended to all users of agricultural and veterinary (agvet) chemicals under amendments to the Chemical Usage (Agricultural and Veterinary) Control Regulation 2017. The amendments reflect a nationally harmonised approach regarding record keeping and training for all agvet chemical users.... The Regulation now stipulates what information must be recorded; who must make and keep records; who must be provided with a copy of the record; timeframes within which a record must be made; and the length of time for which the record must be kept. Certain non-agricultural use of some chemicals (e.g. pool chlorine, domestic insecticides, and home garden chemicals) is excluded from these requirements. Nationally harmonised minimum training and licensing requirements are now in place for occupational (fee-for-service) users of agvet chemicals and all users of restricted chemical products (RCPs) and Schedule 7 chemicals (i.e. poisons). New training requirements for use of RCPs commenced on 19 July 2020, while the new requirements for use of Schedule 7 chemicals will commence on 19 July 2021. Nationally harmonised minimum requirements provide confidence to trade partners, protect Queenslands enviable reputation as a clean and green supplier of high-quality produce, and will allow users of agvet chemicals to conduct their business in any Australian jurisdiction with greater ease. More information is available on keeping records of agricultural chemical applications or by calling our Customer Support Centre on 13 25 23. https://www.business.qld.gov.au//using-che/keeping-records

08.01.2022 In December last year, CHRRUP ran a landscape rehydration workshop at Powlathanga Station near Charters Towers. The workshop was presented by Sam Skeat from The Mulloon Institute. The day was attended by a mixture of graziers and government and NRM organisation staff who learnt a lot about the causes and impacts of erosion, identifying landscape features and water flow and techniques to minimise erosion. This workshop is part of the Regenerative Grazing Tools for Burdekin Soils and Pastures project that is supported by NQ Dry Tropics NRM and funded by the Australian Government's National Landcare Program. Keep an eye out for more of these workshops in 2021, including examples of completed landscape rehydration works.
