20.01.2022 Day 5 What more can you say about Disneyland? It was an amazing day, with fantastic weather! And best of all, almost every one of us ended up with some outrageously kooky item of Disney apparel

18.01.2022 Makes our 6km obstacle course look tame

13.01.2022 Day 2 Our second day in Tokyo brought a mix of calmness of the country with the craziness of the city. We took a series of metro trains from one of the world's busiest train stations, Shinjuku to Mt Mitake. We caught the funicular up to (what we thought was) the top of the mountain (and walked some very steep inclines). The payoff was amazing, seeing the shrine of a famous samurai and a whole host of beautiful trees and "kawaii" (cute) dogs (that also are entitled to blessings). We had a soba, udon and curry rice lunch at a cute place with a stunning view and made our way back to Tokyo. We had a short break at the hotel before heading out to dinner at an okonomiyaki (savoury pancake) restaurant. Oishii!

12.01.2022 Derrick (and the crew!) had a fun day all round!

09.01.2022 Day 4 Mt Fuji, here we come!! Our last day with (human, not sheep) Derrick began with a relaxing drive to the Mt Fuji Forest Adventure ropes and zip line course (on the side of the mountain, no less!)! Most of us participated in the whole course, zipping and climbing at fourteen metres above the ground. The longest and final zip line was 180 metres! The rain finally decided to go away in time for us to go to the fourth (not the fifth, because it had been snowing) station of ...the famous mountain! It was a stunning view and well worth the hard work earlier in the day! We came back to Shinjuku and ate sukiyaki till our hearts were content

09.01.2022 Fruit shaped bus stop only in Japan

08.01.2022 Derrick the Ram Our ram mascot has been christened Derrick, after our fearless tour guide! Jess took some awesome pics of Derrick today to commemorate his first day in Japan (well, out of the suitcase because I may have forgotten about him yesterday......) Thanks Jess!

05.01.2022 Day 6 Oh my - a 5.30 start to the day was definitely not what the doctor ordered after our huge day at Tokyo Disney, but we managed to catch the bullet train to Kyoto without much of a hitch! We met our Kyoto and Osaka guides, Eric and Paul, and made our way first to Arashiyama bamboo forest. We then caught another Kyoto train to Fushimi Inari shrine, where we ate street food and admired the famous torii gates. On our way back to Kyoto proper, we saw some temples and beautiful gardens from 1200. Our final stop was the famous shopping strip, Teramachi, before catching a bus to our hostel. A few of the adults played Japanese darts after dinner and we all celebrated Deon's birthday with a delicious cake and "Happy Birthday" in Japanese (with a Japanese school group!)! Sorry Deon and we saw two maiko (apprentice geishas)!

04.01.2022 And so we're home......it's been two days since we landed back on Australian soil and we've finally had a chance to reflect on the memories made and bonds formed. Thank you all for contributing to our amazing trip of a lifetime! Here are some highlights and favourite pics from all our travellers!

04.01.2022 Day 3 Well, 20,000 steps and 6km bike riding later, we are back at the hotel! Today we visited the Tochu Government Building, where we got 360 degree views of Tokyo, then caught the train to suburban Tokyo, Shimokitazawa, for both urban hiking and bike tours. It was a rewarding trip, meeting guides, Chad and Brad, and Chad's dog, Jack-san (a Jack Russell Terrior, who had a mean nose for pretty much anything). We dodged traffic, pedestrians, each other and bollards, with half the group finishing the day relaxing in the onsen (public baths)! Well done to those who lapped up the experience - pun, intended! Lunch was at a gyoza (dumpling) restaurant and for dinner we went to a westernised izakaya (bar food...bar). Now we'll rest our weary selves, ready for........you'll just have to wait and see!

02.01.2022 Day 7 Today we went to the second largest city in Japan, Osaka. We packed our bags early at our Kyoto accommodation and hiked through rough but beautiful terrain to alight a series of trains to Osaka. Unfortunately a few of our bags did not fare so well....... When arriving in Osaka, we shopped and ate in the Shinsaibashi area before catching another series of trains to Osaka Castle. Then we had to say goodbye to our fantastic guides, Eric and Paul for the last time

01.01.2022 Day 8 Our last day in Japan finally arrived, and did we finish with a bang or what?! Universal Studios (or USJ as the locals call it) greeted us with open gates and off we went to ride the Flight of the Hippogriff as a group! A fun day was had by all, meeting Shrek and Bert and Ernie and a whole swag of Universal characters! More photos to follow...... See you all soon
