25.01.2022 SIMULCAST has been shortlisted in the Australian Dance Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Community Dance (2019). Congratulations to the rest of the team wh...o brought it together and the performers! Conceptualized and directed by Alice Lee Holland, SIMULCAST is a study in simplicity. Young, old, trained and untrained dancers work together to create this murmuration, taking place in Melbourne at Birrarung Marr. Created and produced by Chunky Move in association with Tasdance and Yellow Wheel, SIMULCAST is a solo for celebrated Australian dancer James O’Hara, supported by a local cast of hundreds. A reflection on the fact that we are all part of something bigger and increasingly removed from a sense of human connectedness SIMULCAST brings us back. It is a contradiction. It is about the single and the multiple, minimalism and spectacle. Visually beautiful and aesthetically satisfying, solo movements trigger mass cannons, ricochets and swarms. Amidst moments of unity and discord we must listen to one another and respond. Watch as one moving body multiplies into hundreds. SIMULCAST was presented as part of Dance Massive 2019. 07.01.2022 DEEP DIVE THE ARCHIVE https://cmarchive.net/ In a speech to mark the launch of Chunky Move, then-Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett described the company as "provocative, innovative, daring and very, very physical." He hadn't seen any of the work he was describing, but when he did he admitted he was understandably miffed at the result. There is a strain of contemporary dance that is apolitical, abstract and easily digestible. Chunky Move has never been that. - John Bailey ... In this, the company’s 25th year and one that for many reasons will go down in history, we began a collaborative process of collating records and documentation to honour the legacy, people and works of Chunky Move. And today we launch https://cmarchive.net/ We hope you enjoy deep diving into this archive and trust it will transport you back to 1995 #25in2020

02.01.2022 Were you there on 16.10.19? One year on from the premiere of Antony Hamilton's Token Armies, today we look at it from a different place and pace. Perhaps an entirely other lens we never knew. The first work by Hamilton as Artistic Director of Chunky Move, Token Armies gestures to the fundamental shifts in the passing of time, the carriage of culture, and the labour of continuing the work of living. Below are some captured moments of Token Armies. You'll see a horde of var...ied lifeforms - some blurring boundaries between human, animal and machine. They complete actions and rituals that appear simultaneously alien and eerily familiar as they strive collectively towards an unknown goal. Token armies was presented by Chunky Move and Arts House in association with Creature Technology Company. Commissioned by Rising.
