11.01.2022 Severe Weather Warning IDW28001 Severe Weather Warning... for heavy rainfall for people in the Lower West, Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt forecast districts Issued at 11:31 am WST on Saturday 26 March 2016. For people in parts of WA in an area bounded by Dalwallinu to Mount Jackson to Southern Cross to Hyden to Narrogin to Gingin to Dalwallinu. This includes people in, near or between the following towns: Dalwallinu, Southern Cross, York and Narrogin. The warning for areas including Jurien Bay, Bridgetown, Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River, Mandurah and the Perth Metropolitan Area has been CANCELLED. Weather Situation A slow moving cloud band is moving through southern parts of the state with areas of rain and isolated thunderstorms. At 11:00am, satellite and radar imagery showed areas of rain over the warning area. A band of heavy rain was located near a line from Gingin to Meckering to Cunderdin, moving towards the east southeast. The cloud band is expected to produce HEAVY RAINFALL and isolated thunderstorms that may cause FLASH FLOODING. Rainfall from the cloud band will ease from early Saturday afternoon and contract further eastwards. Flood Watches are current for the Central West, Lower West and South West Districts, refer to http://www.bom.gov.au/wa/warnings/ for further details. Areas of rain and isolated thunderstorms are likely to redevelop over areas including Mandurah, Bunbury, Busselton, Katanning and Narrogin late Saturday afternoon or evening. This will be closely monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary The following rainfall totals have been recorded in the 24hrs to 9am Saturday: Wyalkatchem - 82 millimetres Wongan Hills North - 62.4 millimetres Berkshire Valley - 54.2 millimetres Capel North - 44.8 millimetres Rainfall totals over or in the vicinity of the Perth Metropolitan area over the same period have included 39 millimetres at Gidgegannup and 38 millimetres at Muchea. This weather is not typical for this time of the year and heavy rainfall may cause damage to property and make road conditions hazardous. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams. Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows. Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning. If there is flooding, create your own sandbags by using pillow cases filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home. Do not drive into water of unknown depth and current. Slow down and turn your headlights on. Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris. If it is raining heavily and you can not see, pull over and park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears. Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways. Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and debris. Be carefull of fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should always be treated as live. Assess your home, car and property for damage. If damage has occurred take photos and contact your insurance company to organise permanent repairs. If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500. The next warning will be issued by 2:15 pm WST Saturday. This warning is also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's web site at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 213.
