25.01.2022 Missing parkrun? Watch our 10-step guide to surviving without parkrun and let us know how you're coping in the comments below #loveparkrun

23.01.2022 Hi Churchill parkrunners, it has been some time since we have been together. Maybe we could all share what exercise we have been doing over the past 4 months in the comments below. You may be running, jogging or walking more than you used to, or maybe you have lost your drive! Whatever you are up to please stay safe and we look forward to seeing you all again. Attached is un update from parkrun Australia. https://blog.parkrun.com//covid-19-coronavirus-update-21-/

22.01.2022 COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update Dear all, Over the last few months we’ve attempted to keep things as simple as possible, to focus on the critical tasks required, and to provide clarity around our decisions. This week we’d like to take the opportunity to revisit part of our strategy for reopening parkrun.... As countries relax their respective lockdown restrictions we find situations where certain events could operate (legally and safely) but are having to wait for other events (that could be many thousands of miles away) to be in the same position. For example, in Poland many (but not all) parkrun events have attendance records someway short of the 150 participant limit currently allowed by their Government. Some states of Australia have relaxed restrictions such that parkrun could return, whilst this isn’t the case in other states. The Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, and the Falkland Islands may be considered technically able to start, but the UK as a whole is some way from it being appropriate to relaunch our events. Reopening specific regions within parkrun countries brings with it many complexities, not least the need to understand more localised public health guidance, respond accordingly, and ensure that we don’t create issues for neighbouring regions. As such, at this time, our policy remains that we will only open parkrun events where we can safely and appropriately open every event in that country. We would particularly like to thank those events waiting patiently, and to assure them all that we are mindful of their situations and will continue to review our position on this as time progresses. We are also being asked, across the UK, Ireland, and Australia, whether junior parkrun events (2k events on Sundays for those aged 4 to14) could reopen before the Saturday 5k events. This is something we’ve looked at closely and, whilst we wouldn’t rule anything out, it’s unlikely that this is something we would do. Again, there would be many things to consider, and we understand how children are much less vulnerable to the disease, but we know that for every 100 children in attendance at junior events there are around 110 adults (volunteering, spectating, walking or running). Also, in the UK for example, there are nearly 300,000 children (aged 4 to 14) registered to Saturday 5k events, who could switch to junior events, and a significant increase in participants could have a hugely detrimental effect on what is a delicate operating model responsible for safeguarding very young children. Thanks, as always, for your patience, understanding, and support. We continue to monitor the situation globally, and are more confident by the day that parkrun will return across all parkrun countries. We are getting through this, together, Tom Williams Chief Operating Officer

20.01.2022 Hello Churchill parkrunners, Below this short note is the latest update from parkrun Australia. Firstly, the Churchill parkrun team hopes that you all are keeping well, fit and above all, coping with the events that have kept us away from our parkrun for the past 34 weeks (tomorrow would have been our 257th parkrun). Touch wood we will soon be able to join West Aussie, the NT, the ACT, New Zealand who are already off and running, walking or jogging. Also Queensland who wil...l be starting up again on the 28th of this month. My understanding is that we will get at least a couple of weeks’ notice from parkrun Australia that we can restart. As soon as we possibly can we will again be traversing our beautiful Eel Hole Creek track. In the meantime, enjoy your fitness programs and continue to keep safe. Cheers, Bob parkrun Australia COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update: 5 November Dear all, Since we started providing fortnightly updates specific to parkrun in Australia, we promised to send an additional email with any significant developments. Following extensive discussions with the Queensland Department of Sport and Recreation, we have approval to reopen all 107 parkrun and junior parkrun events in Queensland on 28 November. When events reopen in Queensland they will each be required to display a unique QR code for contact tracing purposes and we will be strongly encouraging all participants to sign in. This system currently exists for parkruns in New Zealand and the ACT and is working effectively. For parkrunners in New South Wales and Victoria, we are continuing to make steady progress and intend to provide a further update in our regular fortnightly email next week. This announcement is another significant step forward on the road to reopening parkrun across all of Australia, and we thank you as always for your support and patience.

18.01.2022 Introducing our next parkrun profile, another of our RD's. Thanks Erik 1.Name? Erik Eklund 2. First parkrun? (Place and date) Churchill, 8 October, 2016. I ran 29.11. I liked them all. 7. The one thing that keeps you coming back to parkrun week after week? I spend my whole week behind a desk or in a class room (in normal times) so Parkrun is a perfect way to get me outdoors and moving. 8. What makes Churchill parkrun so special for you? I have met some very friendly people and I have been really struck by the way that Parkrun enables you to socialise across social groups. I look forward to it every week, and I always feel great afterwards. See more

17.01.2022 Hi NOT (at the moment) parkrunners, On Saturday 18th April Churchill parkrun will be posting the first 100 commenters with their best parkrun times (please be honest, as I will very likely not be checking), regardless of which parkrun event you ran. So, if you want to be included respond to this post with your lifetime parkrun PB. Please include your name and time, no later than Friday 17th April. (this will give me time to put it all together). This could be a monumental event. Keep moving and stay safe - Churchill parkrun core team

09.01.2022 Hello Churchillian parkrunners, still no word of a return to parkrun normality......But to whet your appetite, here's a blast from the past. Definitely a coolish morning, from memory the temperature had not reached double digits on our little patch of parkrun paradise. Churchill parkrun event No.27 23rd July 2016 Posted on July 26, 2016 by churchilloffice... Icy cold temperature and rain combined with a chilly wind, which dropped the "feel like" temperature to almost zero greeted the brave and hardy runners and volunteers last parkrunday. Not sure why..... this was the first week we did not have any first timers. With gloves, scarves, beanies and long sleeves to the fore, thirteen athletes and seven volunteers fearlessly, although some would say foolhardily, faced down the elements and went about the adventure which is parkrun. Understandably there were no PBs run on the day, as runners slowly eased up to speed in the cool conditions. Even so 75% of the runners did manage a top 10 placing, which was great to see. The track was in remarkably good condition, a big thank you must go to Latrobe City for the efforts in carrying out repairs to one of the bridges and the track at very short notice. A warm thank you also to the volunteers Geoff & Marie Gunn, Pattie Heeley, Patrick McGown, Robert Martin and Krystal Bond, well done on a fantastic effort, keeping warm and smiling through the day, excellent job folks. To those that couldn't make it, we hope to see you all at The Hub this Saturday. Ruth will be your Run Director, so be there to catch up on the fun you missed last Saturday. Male placings: Jay MCGOWN (VM35-39) (Unattached) was first over the line in 21:58 - first time in 15 appearances. Matt JOBLING (VM45-49) (Unattached) was second (third overall) over the line in 23:59. Aaron FALZON (SM30-34) of Derek Zoolander Centre for Kids Who Can't Run Good, was third (4th overall) over the line in 24:31. Female placings: Claire IRVING (JW11-14) (Unattached) was first (second overall) over the line in 23:59 - 12th time in 19 appearances. Heather FARLEY (VW60-64) (Unattached) was second (5th overall) over the line in 26:38 - was first to finish once before. Ruth DULJAS (VW50-54) (Unattached) was third (8th overall) over the line in 32:08. Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Churchill parkrun Results Page. h

Why did you first start parkrun? - Charlie Twomey encouraged me to come along. I had only been running for about 6 Months. I had lost lots of weight nearly 50kgs bike riding and started running to maintain fitness over winter. I was worried about being compared to others at parkrun or having to race other people, however quickly learn’t that ...park run wasn’t a race, and the support you got from others was amazing. 4. How many parkruns/volunteers? - 174 parkruns and 24 volunteers. 5. Favourite volunteer role? - Photographer, but I do enjoy time keeper or finish tokens as you get to chat with the other volunteers and see everyone finish. 6. The one thing that keeps you coming back to parkrun week after week? - The people! Even when you don’t have a great run yourself being able to share the moment when someone else PB’s or maybe has a hard day themselves is very special. 8. What makes Churchill parkrun so special for you? - The course and facilities are the best I have seen, but it’s the people who are like a second family that keep you coming back. I still run up to Steve Goodwin’s bridge when I warm up and think of the people who were there that day, and that despite the circumstances banded together. As runners we always striving one way or another, but to have a group of like minded people to share the experience is a magnificent reward. See more
