The Sea Anemone comes in all different colours. I have painted a Series of Sea Anemone. The dot in the Anemone painting is the clown fish that live in the Anemone houses. And what I was capturing in my painting is the movement of the houses when the salt water is moving And this is also the reflection of the inner peace that it gives me when I paint. See more

15.01.2022 Music In The Park band profile: Naomi Wenitong Striving to promote a 'Be all you can be' attitude to young Australians through song, Naomi Wenitong is a profound young voice in contemporary Australian music. From supporting the likes of Destiny's Child, Public Enemy, Usher and Kylie Minogue, it is without question Naomi Wenitong is one of the most promising young talents to emerge from contemporary Australian music in recent history. ... With a story as inspirational as it is unique, her passion, resilience and exceptional musical ability have fuelled her journey from humble beginnings to the world stage. At the age of 16, realising it was her life's calling, Nay returned to her home town of Cairns to study music. It is here she met fellow songstress Simone Stacey and formed the duo Shakaya. Not long after their inception the group was signed to a major multinational record label and had their own original songs 'Stop Calling Me', 'Sublime' and 'Cinderella' quickly climbing the ARIA charts and selling platinum numbers. Shakaya's success saw the group release two albums and tour with Destiny's Child, Usher, Ja Rule, Ashanti and Shaggy as well as perform all backup vocals and raps for Peter Andre on his 2004 UK tour. After the amicable disbanding of Shakaya, Nay was part of the formation of the trio The Last Kinection - the outfit that would allow Nay to write the music she'd always set out to. From success with Shakaya and TLK to her solo recordings and community work, Naomi Wenitong is set to light up the stage at Music In The Park on December 5. 07.01.2022 Have you watched ‘Infractions’ yet? Previewing online at CIAF, and premiering in Australia at the Institute of Modern Art is INFRACTIONS, a feature length video installation in dialogue with frontline Indigenous cultural workers’ struggles against threats to more than 50% of the Northern Territory from shale gas fracking. In the last decade, amid an unceasing mining boom, neo-paternalistic policies have aimed to reverse investments in remote Aboriginal homelands and land rights. With the lifting of a moratorium in the Northern Territory in 2018, British, US and homegrown settler mining companies exploit the weakness of Indigenous rights paradigms explained in the film by Professor Irene Watson to plan the expansion of a toxic, planet-warming industry across vast, ancient underground water systems. This is a climate justice film.

04.01.2022 Here’s our Artistic Director, Janina Harding, with artist Zane Saunders and Dr. Russell Milledge from Bonemap, photographed at last week's official opening of the newly refurbished old Cairns Court House. Now an arts space, the venue will be inclusive of Indigenous art from the region and across the country, to transform the space as a venue to showcase narratives of Australia’s First Peoples. The ribbon for the new venue was cut by CIAF’s Patron and Governor of Queensland, H...is Excellency The Hon. Paul de Jersey AC, with CIAF board member and Cairns Regional Council Mayor, Cr. Bob Manning OAM, speaking at the event. Cr. Manning spoke passionately about the new intentions of the space and the proposal to establish a broader Cairns Gallery Precinct (encompassing the old Court House, Cairns Art Gallery and other proposed locations in the vicinity). The refurbished Court House will open in February of 2021 to the public, where exhibitions (including the collaborative exhibition between Zane Saunders, Bonemap and dancer, Rebecca Youdell) will be back on display. #CairnsIndigenousArtFair #CIAF #Cairns #ArtsAndCulture #Art #IndigenousArt #CourtHouse #ZaneSaunders #Bonemap #CairnsRegionalCouncil

View and purchase artworks like these by Fiona Elisala-Mosby of Moa Arts. Head to; https://2020.ciaf.com.au/ Artist Statement;... This work relates to the rising sea levels in Zenadh Kes (the Torres Strait) It comes from my experience on Saibai where the water on land can be ankle deep. The land I have walked on, the land of my ancestors, is slowly being overrun by the rising sea levels. In earlier times our forefathers built a sea wall to protect the land and they still do these works (zageth) today as the waters continue to rise. It is this evolving line that holds the ocean back now. The traditional mark making (minaral) of our region is inscribed on the prints, like the bedrock that protects us in other ways. See more
