25.01.2022 The news may not be as interesting as Miranda Kerr & Orlando Bloom splitting up, but we still think that a free upgrade to your Mac's OS is big news! One of the best, but not reported on much, features is that just by installing OS X Mavericks your Laptop battery life is improved, and better still it tells you what is using the battery the most! Read the source link to find out more! http://ow.ly/qabKR

22.01.2022 IT People can be sensitive souls, but naturally not us! Found this http://ow.ly/qe7Od on LifeHacker... Interesting article on how to take criticism. Particularly interesting was how the Author dealt with the bad rating on Amazon...

22.01.2022 I can sympathise with this Possum, I think he must work in IT!

20.01.2022 A question we get asked a lot is should I upgrade my iPhone to the [] , basically people are asking us ‘is it time to upgrade my iPhone’. In our opinion if you are using an iPhone 4 or earlier its time to upgrade, and the logical choices are the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c. ... The question is which one, the 5s or the 5c!? Naturally its all very subjective, but to simplify the choice ask yourself these questions: 1. Is the iPhone your main ‘camera’? As in do you mostly use the iPhone for photography 2. Does speed matter to you, does the speed of Apps matter to you, or do you not really notice the difference? 3. Is security a big factor for you, as in do you want to make your iPhone as secure a device as possible? If you answered mostly ‘Yes’ to those 3 questions we think you’re better off with the iPhone 5s, but if you were indifferent or answered ‘No’ to these questions we think you’re better off with the 5c (and the colours and overall feel of the phone are pretty nice too!) 16.01.2022 Apple has an event scheduled for tomorrow; expected is a new iPad and new OS... But could they be releasing a new TV (as in an actual TV!) http://ow.ly/q0kpy

14.01.2022 Big day for Apple, new iPad (iPad Air), new Mac Pro is finally hitting the Markets, New Apple Productivity Software, but the biggest announcement is new OS for Mac... FOR FREE! OS X Mavericks is available for download now via the App store and has plenty of features that will keep people happy... For those inclined you can watch the keynote announcement (which may be a little YAWN!) located on the link below. http://ow.ly/q516X PS No new Apple TV, but hints on supporting 4K video strongly hint at a set being imminent!

14.01.2022 #CUTTINGSIMTOFITIPHONE Cutting a SIM to fit your new iPhone Okay, so you've got (or are getting) a new iPhone 5 or 5s and you're upgrading from an older iPhone like the iPhone 3(s) or 4(s). You unbox and you go to transfer your SIM card from your Old Phone to the new and.... "Shut the front door!!" The SIM does not fit! One of the problems of upgrading the iPhone is Apple have switched from a Micro SIM to a Nano SIM. You can order a new SIM from your Telco Provider, but this ...can take time for them to send, then activate, and some Telco's are cheeky enough to charge you for a new SIM (for a massive markup too!) . There is a solution though! With a pair of scissors, bit of sticky tape and a printed template you can cut the SIM yourself. As this is a bit of a DIY task it comes with a warning YOU CAN F*&K IT UP! But if you have even the most modest amount of fine motor skill you can watch this youtube http://ow.ly/qr8UA and print out this template hey presto! http://ow.ly/d/1E4q See more

13.01.2022 All, As you may or may not know my good friend and business partner Flavio have just opened up a 'Boutique' IT consultancy and we're touting for business in the Sydney area. We've just been accepted into the Apple Consultants Network (ACN), which we nerds find exciting, so if you know of any business that needs some help integrating Apple into their network or IT consultancy in general pass on our details and tell them that we've got a 'Mates Rate' going on at the moment so savings to be had (this will hopefully excite accountants!).

01.01.2022 A question we often get asked by small businesses is: 'Do I need a Server?'. Naturally this is a difficult question to answer and to be honest depends on the companies requirements, but if you run a small(er) business and dont work with data that takes up a lot of storage space (like video) you more than likely could use a cloud based service for your company. At Cider IT we're keen on Google Apps for Business. Its pricing structure is simple (starting from $50 AUD, per user..., per year*) and for that you get 30GB of Data that you can use for email and storage; better still Google Provide you with their online Productivity tools (think Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Presentation Software). The advantage of using Google is that their services next to never fall over (you can check their status from this link: http://ow.ly/qLstB ) and they constantly upgrade meaning you don't need to faff about with upgrades or contacting your Local IT. Whilst not for everyone its an attractive option for those of you who want to keep their overheads low, and also works perfectly for those business that believe in BYOD (Bring your own device(s)). For those of you who are tech savvy setup of Google Apps is relatively simple, and something you can do yourself, but for those of you who need help Migrating your business over to Google Apps Cider IT can help you with Migrating your Exchange or current Mail solution over. Check out the this link of what Google Apps for Business can do for your business: http://ow.ly/qLt2D *requires a minimum of 5 users
