23.01.2022 My values & beliefs for @marchmeetthemaker . I am a gypsy - by heart and by preoccupation!! What goes hand in hand with this way of life is holding the bohemian values of Freedom, Truth, Beauty, Generosity and above all Love. .... I haven’t always felt fully aligned with these values at times - but I think that was mostly due to not completely pursuing my calling to be an artist. Since taking the monumental risk leap from life as a full blown public servant to full time artist, I am starting to feel that alignment to all five values. It feels scary but pretty damn sweet! . I am a Christian, but haven’t always been, although I always felt a pull toward the Church and I am so grateful for the peace that comes with having faith. I believe in the good in people. I believe that artists are the greatest problem solvers. I believe wholeheartedly in the mystical connection between my palms itching and whether I will be gaining or losing money! I believe that odd people are my people. xoxo See more
20.01.2022 Style . When people describe my work, across the various styles the one word keeps coming through and that is ethereal. Which I love because it is exactly how I want my work to be. Lucky! . The first thing you will notice is that the colour pink fairly often makes an appearance. It’s been a long time style favourite - just come into my home and you will see it is also a fairly dominant feature. I also love a tiny hint of gold thrown in where often only I can see it! ... . My style is expressed in gentle lines, washes of translucent colour and layers of images and I really lean towards having a lot of white or negative space, even in my most colourful pieces. . I pretty much only use the one font American Typewriter in my copy because it is also a gentle, clean and a bit old world nostalgic and some strokes of the letters seem to be at times translucent. . It’s lovely after all these years my style really does have a feeling and mood. In writing this and looking at my work and hearing people describe it to me, I am thankful I have stayed the course in this style. It’s exactly where I want to be. . Do you have other ways you see my work? I’d love to know so please comment below with how you see my style, it’s kinda fun to hear! . xoxo See more
09.01.2022 You know I hate humidity right? Well yesterday I learnt that to successfully paint with watercolour, the air needs to have a good level of humidity. WHAT NOW!! So as March has arrived and ordinarily I would be deliriously happy for the end of kill-me-everyday hot summer, but with all the rain we have been having it is ridiculously humid. completely unreasonably humid! But friends, it’s not going to go away for a while and I may as well embrace the elements and get to with all the water colouring! I might turn this much maligned experience into March Watercolour month and also March what-the-fark-hair-style month while we are at it because, God knows he gifted me this curly mess to give me a daily test on gratitude and acceptance! Peace!
08.01.2022 There was a time I was obsessed with Edwardian style portraiture. This one is the only one from that period left. I gotta tell you guys, they are probably not gonna make it intact past today. Nope. I have too much of an urge to kill some darlings in my head to resist. In fact I’m not gonna lie, it’s already begun
04.01.2022 Introduce the brand . Hi, welcome! I’ve had quite a few new people follow along here and as part of #marchmeetthemaker it’s a great opportunity to tell you a little about Cillamint Studio and introduce the brand. . My name is Danielle Campbell and I am the illustrator and artist behind the brand Cillamint Studio. I created brand name simply because I am a multi-passionate and hope that one day in the near future the studio will be a brick and mortar style for works...hops and art schooling. . I work in mostly pencil and watercolour portraiture but as I said, multi-passionate here so I also work in acrylic, charcoal on occasion when I am creating abstract pieces. My work is fairly illustration based because I just love the concept of story creation and I feel that the best way I can achieve that in my art is through figurative illustration with a story that involve allegorical elements aligned with the human subject. . The brand as I see it is nostalgic, gentle and ethereal - a place where you can come to take a moment of time, let the noise drop away and be absorbed in the mystery behind the story being told. I have strong bohemian values of truth, beauty, freedom, generosity and love and aim to infuse those values in everything I create and offer to the world under the brand of Cillamint Studio. . Thanks for staying with me as I grow this business, I do hope you stick around because I just know I have so much more to give you in return for your support. xoxo See more
