This year our Marlowe Hotel game was voted 75th (out of 82,000 rooms played internationally!). 13.01.2022 As you may have noticed, The Cipher Room loves film noir! Two classic films, The Strange Women and Dishonoured Lady, both starred an extraordinary woman that wed like to shine a light on today Ms Hedy Lamarr. Born in 1914, the Viennese actresss biggest onscreen success was in Cecil B. DeMilles Samson and Delilah (1949). However, unbeknownst to many at the time, Lamarr was also a brilliant (and largely self-taught) inventor. Her most notable achievement was a radio ...guidance system that she developed alongside composer George Antheil. This technology was created for Allied torpedoes during World War II, but would go on to form the basis of todays Bluetooth technology and Wi-Fi. In 2014, Lamarr was posthumously inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. So, on this special day, wed like to celebrate the life of this brilliant and talented woman! Happy #InternationalWomensDay everyone! #IWD

12.01.2022 Were back!!!!! We received confirmation from the NSW Government that all escape rooms can open! So we will reopen from Monday 15th June! We are starting with Espionage and The Cabin, but will have The Marlowe Hotel open really soon too. We have created extra procedures to ensure our business is complying to the latest government guidelines in the regards to COVID-19 and the 4 metres squared requirements. 08.01.2022 Due to the governments temporary closing of entertainment venues, it seems well be closed a bit longer than wed thought. We have turned off our booking systems for now (if youre in a position to help, gift vouchers are still available) but we just wanted to take the time to say thank you. Thank you to all the players who have been so understanding and unbelievably supportive. Thank you to everyone who has sent kind messages to us and other small businesses on social media... and email. Thank you to everyone who is making the commitment to stay home for everyones sake. Thank you to our incredible and amazing staff. And thank you to our young sons who have been giving us the best and most needed hugs. We will definitely be back. 08.01.2022 Hi all, we wanted to update you guys on our current status for reopening, especially since more people are asking! Youre probably aware that the NSW government is loosening restrictions on June 13th for gyms, indoor pools and saunas, tattoo parlours, etc. Unfortunately, escape rooms are not included in this grouping - were classified with arcades and other large indoor entertainment venues. :( Despite repeated petitions to various ministers, weve yet to get any definite re...sponses because no one knows what to do with escape rooms as a category, and as such, we dont even have an estimated date for reopening. BUT! If you would like to help us reopen sooner and raise awareness, there is a really simple thing you can do to help. Simply go to https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/contact-us and send them the following letter (dont forget to add your name on the bottom). Thats it! Thank you so much for continuing to support us, and we hope we can host all of you again in the near future! (Thanks to Next Level Escape for starting this letter, and every escape room also sharing this and contacting their MPs!) ###### To whom it may concern, I am writing to you, as a member of the public, to express my support for the reopening of escape rooms. Currently they are classified with arcades and other large indoor entertainment venues, and are not allowed to reopen with other indoor facilities despite having a completely different operating model. I am petitioning you to include them in the group of businesses that are allowed to reopen on June 13th as they provide a very safe space for groups of friends and family currently looking for activities to do. Each escape room has individual games in their own enclosed spaces, and each space accommodates only one group at a time. Groups average about 2-6 players, and we are family and friend groups - people who would already have been in relatively close physical contact outside of the escape room. Strangers are NEVER randomly added to booked groups, and groups remain separate so there is no intermingling. Bookings are made online for specified times, and most escape rooms stagger start times to avoid overlap. Our basic contact details are collected for during the booking process, and most companies also require us to sign a waiver form that collects their name and email. This allows for fast tracing should any incident occur. Staff members are not in the room with us - except for the introduction, they assist remotely. There is no more contact than, say, a waiter serving tables at a restaurant. As someone who has played a number of escape rooms, I believe they are COVID-safe and should be allowed to reopen on June 13th together with indoor pools and saunas, tattoo and massage parlours, etc., and I hope you give this petition serious consideration. 02.01.2022 Like everyone, we have been following the development of COVID-19 and the health authoritys calls for social distancing. To assist with this - and after consultation with our staff - we have made the difficult and sad decision to temporarily suspend our games. We will definitely be back, but we feel this is the appropriate step right now to help flatten the curve. We will close for 2 weeks and then determine, with advice from the medical and health authorities, what our ne...xt steps will be. Our booking systems will still be open from April 1st and well be reassessing as more news comes to hand. We will absolutely keep our customers updated. If you had a booking with us between now and April 1, we have sent emails with various options. If you havent received any notification yet, please get in touch at [email protected] Like many other small businesses restaurants, cafes, artists, etc - this is a very stressful and uncertain time. If youd like to support these businesses right now, please consider gift vouchers to help them through. Were sure they would really appreciate it. We have so many plans for The Cipher Room this year, including a new game and more big news that we cant divulge just yet, but hopefully soon.
