25.01.2022 Air fryer sweet potato Autumn begins the season of comfort food. Fleshy roast sweet potato is on that list. Serve with poached egg, Cheesy sauce and wilted spinach.
24.01.2022 New Cheese snack packs from Coles Assorted things added to cheese like olives. almost 200mg calcium per serve.120 cals. Save the environment and pack your own (save packaging). Or keep some cheese and olives in the work fridge. Just letting you know about a new product!
24.01.2022 UPDATE FROM CIRCLE OF CARE - 25 MAY 2020 This week brings some good news and we are able to commence operations in a limited capacity. Our team is busily working to book operation dates for our patients but please bear with us as we have limited hospital lists until the end of June. ... Under the current restrictions we are unable to book patients with severe sleep apnoea, very high BMI’s or those with heart disease that might require ICU back up. Under the current hospital criteria some revisional surgery and no bypass surgery can occur. We are hoping these restrictions ease in the near future. Please be assured that we are monitoring the situation closely and will keep you updated as to an operation date. These are NSW Health directives of which we must abide. We are continuing to work remotely and use telehealth services. We will update you as soon as we are back in the office and ready to consult face to face. In the meantime we are available to help you, please call us between 9 12 Monday to Friday on 02 87110134 or email us [email protected]. Kind regards, Circle of Care Team
24.01.2022 Just a reminder that we are still wearing masks inside all NSW Hospitals - including in our clinic Thank you

Pending what happens next we may move to video conferencing appointments where we can but will wait and see. Thank you for your understanding Dr Mark Boccola Dr Roy Brancatisano & The Circle of Care Team
23.01.2022 They are Fake Chicken Balls ! Half the protein as chicken, twice the protein as a legume-based vegetarian meal. I just don't fancy the amount of weird ingredients it takes to make them. The new fake-meat meats are really highly processed foods. If you're not vego, stick to chicken.
23.01.2022 Bulk billed Telehealth appointments are available over Zoom or phone with our surgeons All you need is a GP referral and Medicare card.
22.01.2022 The Population of Australia - in America, has Sleep Apnoea 22 million Americans have sleep apnea. That's roughly the amount of people living in Au. Amazing. 21.01.2022 Due to COVID-19, we have made a few changes to the way we do things for the safety and wellbeing of our patients, visitors and staff. Putting our Patients First is still at the heart of everything we and we thank you for your cooperation during this time.
20.01.2022 Lipoedema research is still in its infancy. To date no definitive cause has been isolated although many theories have been considered. What do we know? The fi...rst sign of fat deposition in the thighs occur following the hormonal changes of puberty. Pregnancy and menopause are two other periods where significant fat deposition and worsening of symptoms is noted. It is a matter of great frustration and confusion that exercise or diet have no effect on reducing the fat in lipoedema. We also know there is usually a strong family history of Lipoedema mainly affecting females though rare cases of it affecting males has been reported. This month we will focus our Tuesday posts on the symptoms and treatments available for management of Lipoedema. For more information can we encourage you to visit @lipoedemaaustralia or our page on lipoedema https://hubs.ly/H0rLf1L0. #naveensomiaplasticsurgery #lipoedema #lipedema #lipoedemaawareness #lipoedemaawarenessmonth
19.01.2022 Which PB? I did a taste experiment once to find out what was 'addictive' about Peanut Butter. I covered the labels on a jar of PB containing added salt and sugar vs 100% roast peanuts. Guess what? Nobody found the 100% peanut Peanut Butter addictive. Mayvers PB has salt added but they have just brought out an unsalted PB. That is the one I recommend along with other 100% PB. Best to buy the ones in glass to avoid any "plastic migration" into the product.

18.01.2022 Solving the mystery product from Puree phase People often ask "what is pie pack apple?". Well ilf you have never made a crumble or a pie, you may not know. It's the healthiest canned apple on the shelf. The one on the LHS is 99% apple (1% salt, acidity regulator and firming agent), RHS is 100% apple and made in Oz.

17.01.2022 Nutrition trends for 2020 in the media Interesting scope - new research is accumulating since I last reported on intermittent fasting - I will summarise and let you know but really, it's not suitable during your weight loss phase. Real use lies in weight maintenance, however a lot of the benefits are similar to the benefits of WLS without intermittent fasting, so maybe you have done enough already? https://conscienhealth.org//ten-big-stories-to-watch-in-2/

17.01.2022 Steamed Salmon The same friend that showed me crispy skin salmon last week, did a very moist steamed salmon this week. Put your salmon in a steamer basked over boiling water, cover and steam for 5 mins. Bewdiful and moist.
17.01.2022 The prime minister has just announced that elective surgery is now cancelled from midnight tonight. We will contact all patients booked for surgery asap to get some sort of wait list set up to assist our patients. Please bear with us while we navigate through this. Rosey & Circle of Care Team
16.01.2022 Last Friday 15th May the National Cabinet announced the easing of restrictions on elective surgery. Each state has to implement this and so far the NSW state government has yet to make an announcement, which we are eagerly awaiting. We do not have access to our normal operating lists and private hospitals are still working at a 25% workload. ... Current restrictions mean we can do very little by way of operating but please be assured as soon as these restrictions are lifted we will be in touch to book in dates ASAP. Some lower risk patients have been asked to commence pre op diets which we hope you can work with us so you are ready to go ASAP. Thank you again for your understanding during these trying times Circle of Care Team

15.01.2022 Today is Restart a Heart Day. If you believe someone has suffered a cardiac arrest, take immediate action: - Call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance - Start CP...R by pushing hard and fast in the centre of the chest - Shock using a defibrillator as soon as possible to restart the heart, if one is available. 15.01.2022 Circle of Care Re opening of rooms We are happy to announce we will be reopening our rooms for face to face patient bookings from 9 am on Tuesday 9 June 2020. Patient bookings will be available between 9 am and 4.45pm Monday to Thursday and Friday 9am to 4pm. ... Appropriate social distancing measures (4sq metre rule) will be followed as well as additional cleaning throughout the day. We ask that patients do not bring a support person or family members with them to their appointments at this stage. We are managing our bookings and numbers based on our patients, so unfortunately we can’t allow additional people through the clinic at this time. We could telephone in a support person for you at the time of your appointment. Telehealth will still be available until the end of July for patients that wish to continue this service. We would like to thank our patients for their understanding during this time and we are certainly very glad to be able to return to the clinic to see you once again. Circle of Care Team

14.01.2022 Interesting article ‘Obesity is linked to a number of diseases which also put people at higher risk of being ill with Covid-19’ https://www.bbc.com/news/health-53921141
14.01.2022 In light of the current COVID-19 health crisis, can we please ask the following: 1. Each patient only bring a support person if they are really needed. 2. If the support person is required, each patient to only bring one person. 3. We may message you to wait in your car and we will call you up when it is time for your appointment. We need to minimise people in our waiting room so are actively spreading out appointments.... All staff, patients and visitors will be screened on entrance to the building. If they have a fever or are identified as a risk of having COVID-19, they will be denied entry. If you are unwell, or feel that your appointment can wait a few weeks, feel free to call or message us to reschedule your booking. If you would like to engage in a video conference appointment through Zoom we can also arrange this for you in some circumstances. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Circle of Care Team
13.01.2022 ####IMPORTANT INFORMATION ####### From tomorrow morning Wednesday 25 March 2020 we will be moving to Telehealth services only and ask our patients not to physically attend our clinic. 11.01.2022 Cheese and cracker pak with extras. Looks like the cheese and soy crisps are the fave as they were sold out when I checked these out. Another healthy snack alternative. The only issue is the over packaging. Obvs if you BYO it is better for the environment or keep a stash of cheese and olives at work. Olives are high in sodium but 3-5 will give you some healthy fat.

10.01.2022 Budget Protein Bars You are probably well aware of the multi-pak 10g protein bars vs 2-5g in the muesi bar section of the supermarket. Most (not all) of these are higher in saturated fat than I like (>2g per serve) but thay are a quick, easy and a handy standby in the hand/manbag. 3-5 varieties in each of the 3 main supermarkets. Cheaper and usually more natural tasting than the more expensive 20g bars in the supplement section. Yes they have some sugar, but if you are not experiencing "dumping' or low blood glucose levels, then just judge them on the total calories. If they are particularly addictive, look for a lower sugar version. Ideally less than 18g sugar per 100g. Below this they tend to become card-board like. \
09.01.2022 This year marks 10 years for both Mary and Rosey working with us at Circle of Care. It makes it so much easier to go to work when you have a loving and caring environment like ours. We also love that familiar faces are there for our patients providing care and support.

09.01.2022 COVID 19 IMPORTANT INFORMATION Dear patients During these troubling and unprecedented times due to COVID-19, we need to make changes at Circle Of Care. Our primary focus is the care and safety of our patients and staff and helping to limit the spread of COVID 19. As you know, all elective weight loss surgery is now cancelled. Our clinic is now closed for face-to-face consultations, and we will endeavour to consult with new patients and follow up our current patients using tel...e-health using Zoom video conferencing. We are always contactable via our office phone or email. CURRENT WEIGHTLOSS SURGERY PATIENTS For all our post sleeve or bypass patients who have had surgery, we will continue to offer all the follow up appointments via Zoom. For those who are unable to use Zoom, we will provide a phone consult. Your normal appointments will be scheduled and you will be notified. These will include follow up appointments with your surgeon, dietitian, exercise consultant and psychologist. Any patient who has an urgent problem or emergency, we would encourage them to go to their nearest hospital. We look forward to continuing face to face appointments at the clinic as soon as possible. NEW PATIENTS CONSIDERING WEIGHTLOSS SURGERY During this time, many people may continue to struggle with their severe obesity and related chronic health conditions, and may be considering weight loss surgery. At Circle of Care, we can provide initial consultations to assess new patients who may be considering weight loss surgery in the future. We can provide a tele-health consultation with our surgeons to start the process to assess whether you are suitable for surgery. Any patient who has an existing initial assessment or pre op appointment will be undertaken as scheduled. Once the COVID 19 pandemic has resolved and we are back to normal activities, we will resume our clinic. Any of our current patients can make up their appointments or have additional appointments as necessary. Our Circle of Care program will be extended for our current patients. URGENT PROBLEMS Any patient who has an urgent problem or emergency, we would encourage them to go to their nearest hospital emergency. 08.01.2022 Crispy Skin Salmon I (Mandy) was not much of a salmon cook nor fan till a friend cooked me this one. She used way more fat than I would ( 2 tbls a serve), so I halved it. Not as great, but still good! Method: grab a fillet with skin on. Rub about a tsp of olive oil on each side. Sprinkle top side with 1 tsp cumin seed, 1/4 tsp turmeric, 1/4 tsp salt and 1/4-1/2 tsp chili flakes. Ideally rest in fridge, but if in a hurry to eat, then heat 3 tsp oil in a pan. When nice and ho...t, place skin side down and cook for 2 mins. Then gently turn and cook a further 2 mins. The idea is to have a very hot pan so that skin crisps. Thinking I will try in air-fryer next time with just 1 tsp rubbed in per side. See more

06.01.2022 Which chocolate is best for your gut biome? Spoiler alert: it's not milk chocolate nor the Dutch/Belgian ones. Need hard core 80% + cocoa mass. I slice a dried fig in half lengthwise and put a 50c piece of 85% cocoa mass in it. Improves the flavour. Very satisfying. Dr Roy says I am concealing chocolate! hahahah! 04.01.2022 What is the lowest calorie 10g protien bar? A client asked me for a 100 protein bar recommendation. Most are 200 cals, so off to the supermarket isles to suss. Herewith Aldi Coles and Woollies, from left to right.
04.01.2022 10g Protein Bars You have probably noticed you can buy 10g protein bars in the muesli bar section of Coles, Woollies and Aldi. Buy in multi packs so cheaper than the 20g bars in the supplement section. Most are high in saturated fat and have a generous amount of sugar. Still if you need something fast and handy when you are out, they are better than a standard muesli bar after Bariatric surgery. Different ones in each supermarket with around 10 varieties to choose from.
04.01.2022 May the fourth be with you! Happy Star wars Day.
03.01.2022 Just a reminder of our upcoming Christmas closure period Wishing you all a merry Christmas and hope to help you achieve your goals in 2021
02.01.2022 Budget Protein Bars You have probably noticed the10g protein bars sold in the muesli bar section of the 3 supermarkets. Herewith the Aldi ones. Cheaper than the 20g+ bars sold in the supplement section. so very handy. Same calories as 1/4 cup nuts (around 200) which has 5g protein. Usually the saturated fat is a bit high in most (more than 2g per serve) for my (Mandy) liking but you can't beat convenience.
01.01.2022 Have you had your Serial DXA scan? Mandy has (that's her on the rather large X-ray machine). It's just an over head narrow bar that moves down your body. Not claustrophobic at all like an MRI. Heard of osteoporosis? You don't want it. Unfortunately 1 in 2 women and 1 in 4 men get it. When you have had bariatric surgery, you are at 5 times the risk due to less calcium absorption. We increase your calcium intake to help counter this, but for Bypass in particular, there are ho...rmonal pushes towards bone loss that mean a sedentary lifestyle is no longer an option. Vit D supplements and calcium intake as recommended. The only way you can tell what your bones are up tol is with a DXA scan. We recommend one every 2 years. Very low radiation. If you get the GP to write you have an increased risk of osteoporosis, you may be able to get a medicare rebate. Other wise around $85. Health fund may rebate. "Serial" just means you get a series of them and compare bones over time. We all want ours to outlive us! See more
01.01.2022 New discovery in the Coles supermarket freezer... these macros are better than most protein bars!!! Thankyou to Mary from our front desk for bringing them in and giving everyone a bite #protein #yopro #delicious
