11.01.2022 Heeeaaaarrrrss Coco. Cute Coco was presented yesterday at Citivet for her second Puppy Vaccination. She's soooo cuuute. Weighs 2.8kg but will grow fast. She was given a health check. Passed with flying colours. Her second puppy vaccination included Parvo Virus,Distemper, Hepatitis, and the two fractions of kennel cough. ie Bordetella & Parrainfluenza. She'll need her third Puppy Vacc in 3 weeks. She was also wormed. General socialization is advised two weeks after her final ...vaccination. This means she should not be taken to large parks like Centennial park until fully vaccinated. It will be important for Coco to be socialized and not totally isolated. We advise caution and only socializing with pets that you know are fully vaccinated, wormed and well cared for. Citivet snippits - Did you know that if you use your pets name as a precursor to a reprimand, you will teach your dog to be afraid of it's own name. You should only use your pets name to come to you. Best is in a higher pitched voice. This helps to jolly up your pet.

10.01.2022 Here's an ear full We'll protect you. ABOUT FLEA CONTROL... The season is upon us. Spring has sprung. Fleas will be here with vengeance. Start your flea control program now. Fleas cause severe itch. Not all itchy pets have fleas. Most itchy pets have fleas. A flea bite once every two weeks is all that’s necessary to perpetuate flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) . Itchy pets without visible fleas may still have flea bite allergy. A single flea can lay up to 2000 eggs in a lifetime. These eggs remain viable for months. They are more prevalent in warm weather. In winter, we mimic summer conditions, which ensures fleas a favorable environment all year round. Washing in a flea shampoo will only kill the fleas on your pet. Once it’s coat is dry, a new batch will simply jump back on. Using Pyrethrin based sponge-on or spray, on a daily or every other day basis, will help. Pyrethrin needs to be in contact with fleas for more than twenty minutes to successfully kill them. Pyrethrin is toxic on cats. Do not use dog products on cats. Application of a long acting topical will give some cover but will NOT control a severe flea infestation. In my opinion, monthly oral flea products are better. There are more fleas in the environment that on your pet. Please note, these products alone are NOT sufficient to control fleas or to stop itch (FAD), which can be severe & most uncomfortable & should be treated by a Vet. Flea control needs a much more pro-active approach. Tailoring a broader approach which includes treating the environment will help. Fumigating is essential, taking particular care of areas under tables & cupboards, as immature stages prefer darkness & moisture. Paying attention to areas that are frequented by your pets most, is essential. Vacuum often. Treat all pets. Remember, re infestation with fleas is easy. There are more fleas in the environment than on your pets. There are other products, which will aid control. - Ask us -

09.01.2022 "Puma" a 14 year old cat, was presented to Dr Ivor at Citivet on the 31st of December 2018, with a none weight bearing lameness in her right hind leg. Dr Ivor suspected a break, took X rays and confirmed a spiral fracture of the distal right tibia. The Fibula was also fractured proximally. It was decided, with owner consent to carry out surgery the next day to stabalize the fracture by placing a stainless steel Steinman Pin and stainless steel circalage wires. This worked really well. The surgery was over within 2 hours and Puma recovered really quickly. She was up and about soon after and bearing weight with 24 hours. She is doing really well. Hooray!

09.01.2022 Thanks again Ivor, Winnie is feeling very relaxed and more comfortable after her shampoo bath, massage and treatment. I'm very pleased we have found a caring Vet close by. Regards Sue-Maree

09.01.2022 A DOGS TAIL Dogs tails are a means for your pet to communicate. A tail can show excitement, happiness, anger, fear and many other emotions. A wagging tail may be a happy dog, but it may also present a more sinister, nervous, and potentially aggressive wag. The dog has many other ways of showing their emotions. Look beyond the tail. Is the body all relaxed and floppy, and wagging all over? Or is dog looking more alert, tense, strained and with a low and slow wagging tail? If s...o, back off! Dogs speak to us very clearly, we just need to listen! And that butt sniff? A wagging high tail, is also an opportunity for a dog to share its scent. The anal glands are right under the tail so a good wag can share the scent around. In the same sense, if you want to hide, tucking the tail under can keep you under the radar.. So next time you see a wagging tail, look closer, what is the rest of the body trying to tell you? See more

06.01.2022 5 Star: Sanla and Louise L ""This is a very caring and affordable vet. I was a bit apprehensive about visiting a vet in Woollahra in case they charged a fortune but I was pleasantly surprised that the pricing here was cheaper than other Sydney vets and the staff genuinely care about the patients, and take the time to explain the best of care to their owners." - Sanla "Excellent vet, one of the very best in NSW, really cares about all the animals and extremely experienced." - Louise"
