20.01.2022 Agree with this 100%.

19.01.2022 No gym today. Our gyms were closed indefinitely yesterday so this morning I had to find another option to keep up with what I call my morning mental health program. Even before I became a Psychologist I was aware of how much better my mood was for the day if I did some exercise. So this morning my 2.5 year old chocolate lab, "Bali" got a very early walk, a bit of a run. He was delighted! Tomorrow I plan to use some old weights my partner has, and chairs and other things as... a bit of a home gym. As a fitness fanatic and Psychologist can I encourage everyone to find ways to continue to be physically active while at home. Putting aside the physical health benefits, it does improve mood, and often for most of the day and boy do we need that at the moment! I am going to post every couple of days what I am doing to keep in what I call a growth mindset as we all navigate through this new world we find ourselves in. Love to hear from others on what they are doing too! :) Margie

18.01.2022 Have all of your team members adjusted to the new reality yet? Todays video tip demonstrates an actionable strategy to help and have your team functioning well.

18.01.2022 Last week I did a survey on what Leaders biggest issues are navigating this new world we are in. I will release those in the coming days and some short videos on how to work through these. In the mean time, I am sharing a 1 minute segment from an interview Oprah did with Elton John in 1997. I was watching the Elton John countdown special on Channel 7 last weekend. Highly recommend watching it on replay if you are a fan! I was doing a bit of googling about him while wat...ching and came across this, and thought how relevant it was for us now. Lots of us do need help, which also includes CEOs, Senior Leaders, HR Leaders and Government Leaders. Everyone gets impacted in some way. Even the "successful". And there is NO shame in asking for help. I am here to help. As are many others. If you feel you need help you can also contact Lifeline 24 hours per day, 131144. Or access your EAP service if you have one. I hope you enjoy the video, Margie https://youtu.be/GNRuf1RNtL0

18.01.2022 How you lead now is your legacy. What can we learn from exceptional leaders before us? What can you do to cope with the current pressures and plan as a leader to come out the other side of this pandemic?

17.01.2022 Yesterday I was inspired to hear many people talking about R U okay day. In Australia we lose on average 8 people a day to suicide. 75% are men and 25% women. I feel so sad when I hear this. When I embarked on my Thesis in 2015, on CEO wellbeing I discovered an alarming increase in suicide in men between the age of 35 and 65 over the previous few years, which was related to the GFC and self-worth. I found males self-worth is far more tied to financial stability than females... and males do not seek help as much as females. So I decided to explore male CEO wellbeing and performance as to me they needed the help more! I got a significant and positive result with the intervention I used. These findings have significantly impacted my work and I will share how in another post next week. In speaking to Leaders in Australia since then, I hear we havent recovered from the GFC and instead there is a new a new norm of high expectation, little downtime and an unspoken sense of failure or shame if we say I am not okay. I believe employers have a unique platform to educate on mental health as most of us have to go to work. Could your organisation have R u ok? as part of your daily or weekly meetings? As suicide prevention day, it would appear is every day. If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide or experiencing a personal crisis call 000 or Lifeline on 131114 who offer free 24 x 7 telephone support. Warmly, Margie.

17.01.2022 Just realised I may not have said it was ok to comment in my page. My only guidelines are acceptance and kindness for your own and others experience.

13.01.2022 So those who know me, know I am huge fan of Mindfulness. Why? It has helped me with feelings of worry and frustration, to allow me to basically get more sh..t done. I also studied the history and effectiveness of it in my Thesis so I know it does work. And why I include it in most of my programs. I am loving Simple Habit which is a Mindfulness app with so many options (if you are looking). This morning what I got out of it was being grateful. Some mornings just the fact that I can breathe (when others may be struggling to) can put me in the best mindset for the day. Maybe try it, and let me know what you think. Warmly. Margie Ireland https://try.simplehabit.com/
