22.01.2022 Fillings 101 When a tooth is damaged by disease or trauma, it is important to repair it to restore its structure and strength and to prevent further decay. Fillings are used for small to medium-sized areas of damage and it is possible to closely match your new filling with the colour of your natural tooth.

21.01.2022 Tooth sensitivity and how to treat it Have you noticed an ice-cold treat or a soothing hot drink causes pain or tooth sensitivity? These sensations can also be triggered by sour or sweet foods. Tooth sensitivity may affect one or more teeth and is caused when the tough outer layer of tooth enamel protecting your teeth is damaged in some way, exposing the softer dentin underneath. Dentin is full of microscopic holes leading directly to the tooth pulp containing nerves and which is why sensitive teeth can be painful! https://www.citra.com.au/tooth-sensitivity-and-how-to-treat

16.01.2022 Did you know? Women may be more susceptible to oral health problems because of the unique hormonal changes they experience. Hormones affect not only the blood supply to the gum tissue but also the body's response to the toxins (poisons) that result from plaque buildup. As a result of these changes, women are more prone to the development of periodontal disease at certain stages of their lives, as well as to other oral health problems. When Are Women More at Risk for Oral Health Problems? There are five situations in a women's life during which hormone fluctuations make them more susceptible to oral health problems during puberty, at certain points in the monthly menstrual cycle, when using birth control pills, during pregnancy, and at menopause.

16.01.2022 Hormones and your dental health Female hormones can impact women in so many ways, but did you realise they can also increase your vulnerability to developing gum disease? Higher levels of oestrogen and progesterone increase the blood flow to the gums. Consequently, gum tissue becomes more sensitive to plaque and bacteria and gums can become inflamed, swollen and will bleed. Eventually, the inflammation can destroy gum tissue, and lead to bone loss around teeth and even tooth loss. https://www.citra.com.au/hormones-and-your-dental-health

14.01.2022 Oral health and pregnancy Most women take better care of their general health during pregnancy but may overlook the need for good dental health. In fact, the hormonal changes caused by pregnancy can affect oral health which is why it’s vitally important to keep up with regular dental checkups and cleanings. These hormonal changes increase the sensitivity of your gums to bacteria so you may notice your gums begin to bleed or feel sore or tender. This is a condition called pregnancy gingivitis and it will clear up once the baby is born but you must take extra care of your teeth and gums during this time. https://www.citra.com.au/oral-health-and-pregnancy

14.01.2022 Never open bottles with your teeth We all know someone who does this. Opening bottles with your teeth might be a great party trick, but it’s probably not one that your dentist will thank you for. Take the extra few minutes to find a bottle opener, or better yet, buy twist top bottles or cans so you don’t need an opener at all.... One of the leading causes of broken or chipped teeth comes from people using their teeth for things they are just not intended to do. It only takes one unfortunate slip or a tricky bottle to lead to a dental emergency. See more

12.01.2022 . Tongue-tie treatments in Pediatric Dentistry Tongue-tie is referred to as an embryological remnant of the tissue in the midline between the undersurface of the tongue and floor of the mouth. This tissue is known to inhibit the normal flexible movements of the tongue. The attachments of this tissue can be normal or multiple variants of the normal. Many a times, tongue-tie presents with subtle signs which explains why more than frequently the condition is missed on evaluation... and subsequent diagnosis by various professionals. Most common pointer that brings parents or the providers to check for the tongue-tie is speech alteration. Children with tongue-tie are unable to pronounce some of the speech sounds such as, CH, S, M, K, G, N, G, T, D, N, L , R, Z. They might stutter and may also be observed to avoid certain talking situations and words. Apart from speech alteration, there are many other signs and symptoms that start to surface from birth. These signs are divided into: baby’s signs and mother’s signs and experiences. See more

12.01.2022 What Is Root Canal Treatment? If you need Root Canal treatment, we will numb the affected tooth to ensure you feel comfortable during treatment. Our dentist will drill into the tooth, exposing the central part of the tooth so the tissues in the dental pulp and the root canals extending into the tooth roots can be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. It is an intricate process, and we use microscopes to visualize the area more clearly. When a tooth is severely infected, we may ...place topical antibiotics in the empty pulp chamber.Once we are sure all the infection is eliminated, your tooth is ready to be restored. The root canals and pulp chamber are permanently sealed using a material called gutta-percha. Sometimes we may strengthen the tooth by adding a post before covering it entirely with a full dental crown. The dental crown protects the tooth against further infection while restoring its appearance, strength, and structure.A root canal treatment shouldn’t feel any worse than a normal filling, although it might take a few days for your tooth to settle down afterward. After this therapy, your tooth will feel much more comfortable and will be pain-free. Once restored, it will hopefully last for many years to come. See more

11.01.2022 Did you know? The World Health Organization recommends that the daily intake of free sugars be limited to less than 10% (or 50 g = around 12 teaspoons) of total energy intake in both adults and children. A further reduction to below 5% (or 25 g = around 6 teaspoons) of total energy intake would provide additional health benefits and help minimize the risk of dental caries throughout life.

09.01.2022 Did you know? Toothpaste Used to Come in a JarIf you and your significant other have ever argued about how the toothpaste should be squeezed, maybe you should have been born in a past decade. Colgate massed produced the first toothpaste in 1873, and it came in a jar. While there was no toothpaste tube to argue over whether you should squeeze from the middle or the end, it was definitely an easy way to catch a cold if you were sharing your jar with anyone else.

06.01.2022 Why Does My Child Have Cavities Despite Regular Brushing? A very common concern with parents is children having cavities at a young age despite the fact that they have been brushing regularly. We understand that dental cavities (tooth decay) are a multi-factorial disease that originates primarily due to lack of oral hygiene combined with other common factors such as high sugar diet and many more.It has been known that children’s pattern of brushing is mostly quick, inadequate ...and unassisted by adults.Young children have not mastered the brushing technique and miss on tough to reach areas such as those in between the teeth and close to gum lines. These are the areas where bacteria reside and dwell on food that keeps getting stuck in.In order to avoid this potential cause of cavities, brushing in children is recommended to be done, assisted or supervised by an adult until the age of ten to twelve years. Once all the permanent teeth have set in, children can be allowed to brush independently with occasional guidance and supervision. See more

06.01.2022 Breakthrough for tomorrow dentistry Teeth develop through a complex process in which soft tissue, with connective tissue, nerves and blood vessels, are bonded with three different types of hard tissue into a functional body part. As an explanatory model for this process, scientists often use the mouse incisor, which grows continuously and is renewed throughout the animal's life.https://www.sciencedaily.com/releas/2020//200923090414.htm
