25.01.2022 Due to the Sydney experiencing a much higher than normal mosquito population, I am contemplating holding a Fowl Pox Vaccine update weekend. this vaccine should be updated yearly so if you have lots of mosquitos around your home then the girls will be at risk. Let me know if you would be interested and I will arrange a weekend to assist our customer protect their beloved feathered friends. As the vaccine comes in1000 dose lots and can only be used for 2 hours once opened, we need to have a schedule structured to ensure we can, one keep the costs down for each customer and two not waste the vaccine. I am thinking the weekend of the 26th and 27th as there is no public holiday for Australia day this year. Your thoughts!!!!! Are you interested and if so how many birds?

24.01.2022 Christmas is nearly here! Do you have a broody hen or want an interesting holiday time task? Why not get some day old chicks and watch them grow over the holiday period. Place them under a broody hen or rent our brooder package. We have a one week only special on our day old chicks. 20% off all chicks from December 18th until December 23.

23.01.2022 Do you think that our new free range standards satisfy your concerns about what eggs are legally called free range? Do you agree that there are some providers that are serious about free range and others not so? Do you think that the only free range eggs are those produced in peoples backyards? Review the information about he new standard below and make up your own mind. Let us know what you think. http://www.huffingtonpost.com.au//this-is-what-the-govern/

22.01.2022 Thanks to all those who support our Big Box Sale yesterday. We loom forward to catching up with today attendees. We still have some Silkies available if you were after them. Appointments available after 1pm today until 4pm, but you need to register firstly by calling 1300224425.

22.01.2022 Just a warning... We are heading into active fox season. Take the time to check your coop is fox safe. Make sure your doors, locks are secure. If you have a timber coop make sure the nesting box base timbers are fixed down as the fox will just lift them up and have access to your girls. We have already received a number of calls from customers counting the loss of their beloved pets. We also hope that during this trying time that all of our customers\friends remain Covid safe..

22.01.2022 I would like to take this opportunity to thank the two legged visitor who last night removed 10 Silkies (8 hens and 2 roosters) from one of our holiday pens. The hens were a rare colour called paint with one paint coloured rooster and one mottled brown rooster. We have checked our camera footage and have some images of you, which we will be forwarding to police. However all other customers beware if you are offered paint coloured Silkies as they may have been stolen. The birds were breeding stock to help increase our Silkie numbers for our customers, however with them being in short supply currently, someone decided they needed them more than us. So once again thanks for that you low life individual, you have not only stolen from us but delayed all those customers waiting for Silkies.

21.01.2022 With the ongoing Covid situation we will only open for pre-arranged appointments. So you can still buy feed and accessories and we will deliver them to your car. However due to limited hen numbers at present we will not have general access to the farm. So if you are unsure of the items you need at this time it is best to remain at home and keep safe. We will have birds available in the future, even if that means another box sale to be fair to our customers. Thanks to you all for your support and understanding and we like many others look forward to seeing the back of Covid and getting back to a more normal life pattern.

18.01.2022 Summer Water Warning As the temperature warms up your hens will need to consumed more water to keep hydrated. Remember your hens will only drink cool water not hot water. We do see hens die from heat exhaustion or dehydration next to large warm water pools. SO KEEP YOU WATER COOL. Place in a shaded location or even freeze a bottle of water and insert in water bowl to help keep water cool during the oncoming hot days.

18.01.2022 Coccidiosis What is it? It is a parasitic disease of the intestinal tract of the animal caused by coccidian protozoa. The disease spreads form one animal to animal to another by contact with infected feces or ingestion of infected tissue.... How to detect signs or symptoms? Diarrhea, which may become bloody in severe cases, is the primary symptom. However outward signs of coccidiosis in chickens include droopiness and listlessness, loss of appetite. loss of yellow color in shanks, pale comb or wattles, ruffled, unthrifty feathers, huddling or acting chilled, blood or mucus in feces, diarrhea and even death. How to treat? Drugs such as Sulfadimethoxine and Trimethoprim-Sulfadiazine have been effective in the treatment and prevention of coccidia. Because these drugs do not kill the organism, but rather inhibit their reproduction capabilities, elimination of coccidia from the intestine is not rapid. The products we used to protect against coccidia include: Baycox 2 day dosage during chicks first week of life; Amprolium 200 5 day dosage at one week, again at 8 weeks of age and if required finally at 20 weeks of age. If outbreak occurs customers can use Amprolium if wanted to continue to use eggs or Coccivet or Sulfa 3 with a withholding period, refer to product details. Note: preventative dose and treatment doses differ. So check the details on the package.

17.01.2022 --- Warning ----- Its that time of the year again. Mite & Lice season.Treat your birds for mites and lice this week. Use Powders such as Pestene, sprays like Avitrol Mite & Lice Spray or an Ivomectin based product. It is also wise to use Coopex throughout the coop and surrounding areas. If you need any help deciding on appropriate or suitable products including withholding period information please email or call.

16.01.2022 For those wanting holiday care over the Christmas\New year period. We have now closed off bookings. Due to the level of care that we provide for our customers hen we will not over book or over crowd the pens. We are also expecting a hot summer and the misting system will be in full operation during that time.

16.01.2022 City Chicks Sydney will be at the Wildflower Garden in St Ives on Sunday 23rd April 2017 from 10am to 12 noon for a educational session on Keeping Backyard Chickens on behalf of the Ka-ring-gai Council. Hope to see lots of new and existing chicken lovers there..

15.01.2022 .......SYDNEY TEMPERATURE WARNING,,,, COOL FRESH WATER.... Be prepared for the hot weather ahead. Help keep your hens hydrated.... My suggestion is to get up early and water\soak the hens pen area so that when the hens dig into ground it will be cool. Thus will allow them to get some relief. The other thing is place ice or frozen drink bottle into water to keep it cool. Also provide cool treats like chilled watermelon to allow the girls to keep hydrated. Hopefully all will get through a horrid week that lies ahead.

15.01.2022 Just a warming for chicken owners to check your birds feet regularly. Many owners have presented birds to us with an outbreak of Bumblefoot. Look out for large black scab like areas on the padded areas of your birds feet. There are lots of photo references on the internet so no need for any more graphic photos. Just be aware that this can result in the bird being unable to walk on its feet or even worse. Use bleach diluted with 50% water and wipe perches and edges of laying boxes. If you are not sure have someone check the birds or get them to your local vet or bird specialist.

09.01.2022 !!! UPDATE !!! Fertile Eggs As a result of a large number of roosters and cockerals being found dump\abandoned in native bush land and parks around Sydney, City Chicks Sydney as a responsible breeder has decided to remove from sale most fertile egg and hatching programs from our website. Other factors including eggs being damaged in transit or less than acceptable hatch rates have assisted us in making this decision. ... Our aim is encourage our customers to purchased sexed day-old chicks thus reducing the number of roosters being raised in Sydney backyards. We have experienced very high success rate, by placing young chicks under broody hens once they have been sitting for around 15-21 days. We have a purchase price refund guarantee if any chicks sold as a hen, grows out to be a rooster, upon its return to us. We will still offer the six mixed breed fertile egg option for those customers that don't wish to purchase chicks from us or are unable to collect from us or have delivery by us. Ducklings As many of you may be aware last year we also changed the supply of ducklings to the market. We still have breeding sets but only hatch the eggs to order. This was as a result of them being dumped in waterways around Sydney. So if you wish to have a duckling hatched for you, place an order online and in 4 weeks time it will be available. We hope that you will understand this change, and as always we will do our best to ensure our customers have a vast range of options available, We appreciate your support. Regards...... John & Wendy

02.01.2022 Due to the expected high temperatures in Sydney this weekend Sat 11, and Sun 12th February City Chicks Sydney will open at 9am and close at 1pm. This is in the best interest of the hens and staff. Transporting, birds during these conditions is not ideal so we would prefer to close to prevent any possible harm to the hens. We appreciate your support and understanding. Ensure your girls have plenty of cold\cool water available to prevent heat stress or even heat stroke. Also if you have brooding hens be careful that they are not overheating in the nesting box. Take them out and site them in about 1 cm of water to allow their feet to cool them for around 5 minutes then allow them to return to the nest if they have too. Hopefully some relief on the way around Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday. .
