16.01.2022 Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. To recognise this important day and what it stands for, the four Greater Hobart Mayors have joined together with one message, as One Voice: "In February 2000 the United Nations designated the 25th of November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, inviting governments around the world to join together and raise public awareness about the ongoing impact that violence ...against women has on individuals, families and the community. "That is why we have joined together today, as the local governments of Greater Hobart, to raise as ONE VOICE, to say enough is enough; as Doing Nothing Does Harm. "Sixty-three women died in Australia in 2019 as a result of violence, that is more than one woman a week and this number has been consistent for nearly a decade, enough is enough. "We are calling on each and everyone one of you to Do Something about violence against women, as Doing Nothing Does Harm. "So what can you do? Just remember Our Watch’s three 'S's: Show disapproval, Support women and Speak up. "By doing the three 'S's you are showing that disrespect, sexism and violence against women have no place in our communities." 15.01.2022 City of Hobart has created a special drop off spot for charities to leave recyclable items at the McRobies Gully Waste Management Centre (the Tip). The specific area for charities, which is just before the weighbridge, is part of the City’s efforts to help charities reduce waste and minimise tip fees, and will be open to charities in late October. City of Hobart is also offering free advice and assistance to all local charities in recycling and sorting of material before bringing material to the tip.

04.01.2022 Hobart's looking pretty good when it comes to kerbside recycling. But there's one thing that's still causing a few problems - the dreaded plastic bag! If you put your recyclables into a plastic bag, you run the risk of undoing all of your good work by having it all end up in landfill. Plastic bags and other soft plastics can get stuck in the machinery at the sorting facility and can cause all sorts of problems in the sorting process. Even putting items into boxes can caus...e issues. So leave your recyclables to tumble free in your recycling bin!
