There’s still time to pick up some non-perishable item...s and bring them along even if you don’t have a Kilo of Kindness bag. Every little bit counts! Together we can fight hunger in our community! 24.01.2022 RECLAIMING DIGNITY A huge thank you to Friends With Dignity for their support to many of the HOMES OF PEACE families as they transition out of our program into... their own permanent home, said Elizabeth, our HOMES OF PEACE program coordinator, pictured here at a Friends With Dignity event last week. For those families who have been left with nothing, Friends With Dignity come in and completely transform an empty, bare house into a homely sanctuary. They set the homes up with, not only the necessities to live, but they add all the gorgeous personal details to squeeze as much love as possible into each home. Thank you Friends With Dignity for your incredible work and the excellence with which you do it. Elizabeth also said of the event, What an honour to attend and hear from key note speaker, former Australian of the Year, Rosie Batty. Her address to us was so inspiring - reminding us that while what we are doing is making a positive difference in the family violence space, when every week one woman is still being murdered in Australia by someone who is supposed to love them, there is much work still to do." Thank you to Friends With Dignity who are working so hard to help survivors reclaim their dignity after being displaced by domestic violence. And thank you to all our HOMES OF PEACE supporters - we are so much better together. #bettertogether

09.01.2022 MEET OLIVIA! If you havent already, wed love you to meet a new staff member in the CityCare Brisbane officeOlivia Hodge. Olivia oversees HYS (Hillsong Youth ...Services) programs in Queensland and her passion is to draw the potential out of young people to live their best life. Born: Wellington, NZ. Pets: a dog. Favourite Movie: Blindside. Favourite book: 'Daring Greatly' by Brene Brown. Something interesting about you? "I represented West Auckland Basketball Team." Your goals? Through our HYS programs I see many young people who struggle with things like social anxiety, value and identity issues. My goal is to see young people reach their potential, to live healthy lives, and to help them combat the social issues they are coping with. When they know they are valued and loved and that they have worth, they realise they have a part to play in the world around them. What is being part of the CITYCARE team like? What I like most is that we truly are a family. We work together to see everyone thrive in what they have been given to do. When youre not working? I love my morning coffee (I cant do without that.) I love to go down to the beach. And I love coming home to watch my favourite TV show. Which one? Ive got to have some secrets! Okay, okay, well give you that! THANK YOU for loving the youth in our community like you do, Olivia. We are better because of it. #bettertogether

02.01.2022 This week INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2019 is recognised Australia wide and across the globe. It’s not just for women for one week each year, it is essential that... women are equally celebrated all year for our communities to thrive. From our HOMES OF PEACE program coordinator, Elizabeth Skinner, who works with many women in our community: Our heartbeat at CityCare is for every woman to be successful in her life, using her own unique gifts and talents to flourish. HOMES OF PEACE continues to work with women and their children transitioning out of domestic and family violence. The caseworkers journey with the families to provide them with support to accomplish their goals and help set them up for a successful future. Every day, Elizabeth and her team address issues faced by these brave women, but sometimes it’s the small details that can make the biggest difference in a situation, Each time a new family moves into a home, we present them with a beautiful fresh flower arrangement. If you would like to join the team of volunteers to provide these flowers to the families, please contact us at CityCare. We would love to hear from you.
