25.01.2022 Next up in Solidarity Sessions - fostering food communities in the city and building a stronger urban food system with community gardens,. We're talking to Cul...tivating Community about 22 years of empowering communities to access food, build connections and share culture. We'll also be talking how that strength of community mobilised during the pandemic to provide food relief through Moving Feast. https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/afsa-solidarity-session-8-e

23.01.2022 Hello to all of our dear friends, volunteers, chuffed supporters, customers, collaborators, neighbours and wishers of well. We are writing to let you know the Hobart City Farm has closed its farm gate and has wound up. After 6 years of growing delicious vegetables, hosting and running workshops, showing groups through, raising seedlings, turning compost, training students, tending worms, keeping bees and spinning honey we have wrapped up our project. Our lease on the land w...Continue reading

20.01.2022 Calling all gardeners - experts, novices and everyone in between! Help us put substance to the news anecdotes about the rush on seeds and seedlings during the p...andemic. This #PandemicGardening survey was launched on Tuesday evening this week and in 48 hours has received over 400 responses from edible gardeners across every state and territory, town, city and country. There are hundreds of comments forming a rich and growing picture of just how much edible gardening has meant to so many of us over the past few months - and of course for many years prior to that - and just how much it will mean in dealing with what lies ahead. I'd encourage everyone to take 7-8 mins to complete this survey and share it with your networks and colleagues. The more responses, the more powerful the impact and the stronger the case for recognition and resourcing for what has till now largely been a poorly resourced and inadequately supported sector of the Australian food system.

20.01.2022 We need to build the same resilient food systems in Australia. For more info on local community supported agriculture initiatives check out this page: http://www.csanetworkausnz.org/

18.01.2022 Great piece busting the myth that conventional farming is needed to ‘feed the world’:

18.01.2022 This lecture next week offers a way of thinking and feeling about food differently: from source to senses. Could be an interesting take on things...

12.01.2022 It's a shame that citizens and not the leaders have to clamour to protect transparency. The best access you have to sustainably grown, nutritious food and not ...pseudo-'food' is to grow your own, buy direct from your local farmer or through a small business that you know has done the due diligence on your behalf. Unfortunately not everyone has easy access to these outlets. You'd hope that 'food' available at the larger mainstream outlets would been raised, nourished and prepared with the same care and ecological sensitivity as if you did it in your own backyard. Sadly this is not always the case. You'd also hope that you would be able to make informed choices based on accurate product labelling to support the agricultural practices that match your ethics and ideals. Choice is a moot point when the available information is withheld. So let the pollies know that we want to and have a right to know what we are buying, where it is being used and it's impact on our environment and food systems. https://friendsoftheearthmelbourne.good.do/gmosoonyouwontk/

06.01.2022 A farmer says GM crops just prop up the bad farming models that governments, corporations and science promote. We are constantly told to feed the world with GM ...but this is a myth. Politicians depress food prices and squeeze farmers by subsidising food oversupply as access to cheap food is related to potential civil unrest. https://www.fwi.co.uk//opinion-i-wouldnt-touch-gm-technolo See more
