20.01.2022 A MESSAGE FROM LAQ PRESIDENT, DONNA SMITH I would just like to touch base with you all to see how you are all are. It is a tough time at the moment for eve...ryone. We can only thank and be in awe of the work our essential workers are doing. While the LAQ office Staff are mostly working from home or on extended leave, we are continuing to plan for the next phase once we can get back to some form of normality (in whatever form that looks like). We are still hoping to get some of the Winter season up and running albeit a shorter version but we will liaise with our Centres regarding this when the time comes. Hopefully we can get the Summer season started sooner rather than later. The LAQ Board and Staff are using the downtime to plan, not only for when we return but into the future as well. Sometimes adversity allows for time to do things that we normally don't have time to do week to week. A lot of people are sitting at home bored and will come up with some great ideas. We would love to hear what is being planned for the Centres as well, so let us know. I understand how frustrating and disappointing it has been not to start the season in the north and having to cancel presentations in the south. I would like to congratulate all of our Centres who have been delivering virtual presentations for their end of year. It has been fantastic to see them and the athletes look very proud of their achievements. We have wonderful committees in our sport who are thinking outside of the box to still ensure our athletes don't miss out. It is amazing what difficult circumstances can bring out. I imagine a lot of the initiatives will carry through to the future once we are back to normal. As you will have seen, our Development Officers Shaun and Kendal have been busy creating some training tips to use at home through Facebook. Some of the other States are creating similar programs so jump onto their Facebook pages as well. This should keep the athletes busy and doing some form of exercise to pass the time. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy and safe Easter. I understand it will look quite different for a lot of people but enjoy whatever you are doing. I look forward to being able to catch up with you all soon. Donna Smith LAQ President

09.01.2022 STATE CHAMPS CANCELLED I just wanted to quickly cover off on the unfortunate cancellation of the McDonalds State Championships and the impact on City North Little Athletics. Firstly it is with great sadness that the news of the cancellation was received. I feel deflated myself. Thanks to Kent and Matt for keeping me informed through the day. ... I feel so disappointed for our 48 athletes and also for those athletes that knew that this would be their final instalment in their Little Athletics journey. All I can say is to look forward and set your goals and I encourage you to continue your athletics journey overall and most importantly focus on being fit and healthy young adults. Our disappointment and inconvenience must also be put in perspective. Many other athletes and their families and supporters would have travelled hours and hours from around the State and at great expense. My thoughts are with them as well. LAQ have said they will deal with any subsidiary issues in due course. I have no idea if that means postponement or proper cancellation. At this stage they have not mentioned rescheduling. I doubt events can be rescheduled in the current environment. Unfortunately LAQ were put in a position where there was only one real outcome. Whilst through this morning there was no advice to cancel events like this the LAQ decision makers could be comfortable taking precautions and proceeding. However once the Chief Medical Officer made their recommendation to cancel large gatherings the organisers had no other choice to make. I understand the PM announced the advice at 2pm and LAQ cancelled by 2:40pm. Even if the advice was not to enact it on until Monday I imagine the responsible officers at LAQ made the bravest of calls. To continue the event, or cancel after tonight, would have opened them up to far more criticism. After the multiple cancellations due to wet weather since the new year I feel we have had hardly any time together this year. Unfortunately I think we are in for more trying times as a broader community as we try to delay and spread over time the impacts of the virus. Looking forward we have one more event for our season which is our presentation night, scheduled for Tuesday 17th March. I plan to revisit the scheduling of this event and the catering and format of the event with the committee over the weekend to put in place measures to make it a low risk event. Remember having any event has its risks. That said any person/family that feels uncomfortable attending this event or anyone who is unwell should not attend. When we have presentation night athletes should where their uniform. In addition we will distribute State Championship shirts that night as well.

09.01.2022 Training on now!

07.01.2022 IMMEDIATE CURTAILMENT OF COACHING Little Athletics Australia has recently given a directive to all LA Centres to cease all activities due to the Corona Virus. This doesnt effect City North Little Athletics directly but unfortunately this will have an affect on Andrew and Sophies coaching where they use CNLA equipment. This is not longer permissible and has ceased.... Sophie and Andrew may choose to continue coaching, that is a decision for them and their clients, but they will not use CNLA equipment or facilities and this training is not endorsed by CNLA or Little Athletics generally. I will be in touch in future months when this moratorium has been lifted. https://laq.org.au/statement-from-little-athletics-australia
