25.01.2022 Argyle Street Car Park Lift Works The lifts at the Argyle Street car park are being upgraded for an improved and faster service. The current lifts are old, tired, and slow, and the upgrades will take six months to complete. We aim to limit inconvenience as much as possible and so we will be upgrading one lift at a time. ... Due to only one lift operating and with consideration to COVID safety requirements, there will be delays for lift users. Alternative access to the car park include various stairways (if able) or the nearby Wellington Centre lifts. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we carry out these essential works. For more information visit: https://www.hobartcity.com.au//Argyle-Street-Car-Park-Lift

25.01.2022 Electric vehicles can now power-up quickly in the heart of the city, after City of Hobart installed a fast-charge station at the Dunn Place carpark. Drivers can pay to use the new fast 50kW DC charging station via the EasyPark app. The station can fully charge a standard electric car battery in about 30 minutes. City of Hobart installed the new fast-charge station with the help of a $50,000 ChargeSmart Grant from the Tasmanian Government. Electric vehicle infrastructure is part of both the City of Hobart’s Connected Hobart and draft Sustainable Hobart action plans to create a more sustainable future for our city.

19.01.2022 If you're planning a walk, run, ride or picnic in Wellington Park this weekend keep an eye out for our mountain ambassador Pip around the Springs and the summit. While she's helping visitors find the best tracks and trails to explore, Pip will also be seeking help to find an environmentally harmful, weedy invader - the orange hawkweed! Orange hawkweed is identifiable by its distinctive orange flowers and hairy stems and leaves. It closely resembles the common lawn weeds dande...lion and hawkbit, but is far more invasive. We need all eyes on the ground this summer to keep kunanyi/Mt Wellington's sensitive alpine environment safe from this aggressive little weed! If you spot a plant you think might be orange hawkweed in Wellington Park, please let Pip know or report it via our online form at hobartcity.com.au/ohw. Find out more about orange hawkweed at hobartcity.com.au/orangehawkweed

12.01.2022 Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. To recognise this important day and what it stands for, the four Greater Hobart Mayors have joined together with one message, as One Voice: "In February 2000 the United Nations designated the 25th of November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, inviting governments around the world to join together and raise public awareness about the ongoing impact that violence ...against women has on individuals, families and the community. "That is why we have joined together today, as the local governments of Greater Hobart, to raise as ONE VOICE, to say enough is enough; as Doing Nothing Does Harm. "Sixty-three women died in Australia in 2019 as a result of violence, that is more than one woman a week and this number has been consistent for nearly a decade, enough is enough. "We are calling on each and everyone one of you to Do Something about violence against women, as Doing Nothing Does Harm. "So what can you do? Just remember Our Watch’s three 'S's: Show disapproval, Support women and Speak up. "By doing the three 'S's you are showing that disrespect, sexism and violence against women have no place in our communities." 10.01.2022 This week is National Recycling Week! It also happens to be our FOGO service's 1st birthday Together, the household recycling and FOGO services are diverting more than 8000 tonnes of waste from landfill each year. We popped out to Lansdownne Crescent Primary School this week to see the great things they're doing with FOGO. From popping all of their food waste into classroom and playground FOGO bins, to using the end-result compost on their amazing kitchen garden! Big th...anks to Harper and Liam (pictured) for showing us around FOGO can take more than your regular household compost bin, including: and more! Compostable packaging, paper towels and tissues and even pet hair can go in. But please don't use plastic bags or even biodegradable ones unless they are certified compostable. 07.01.2022 Hobart's looking pretty good when it comes to kerbside recycling. But there's one thing that's still causing a few problems - the dreaded plastic bag! If you put your recyclables into a plastic bag, you run the risk of undoing all of your good work by having it all end up in landfill. Plastic bags and other soft plastics can get stuck in the machinery at the sorting facility and can cause all sorts of problems in the sorting process. Even putting items into boxes can caus...e issues. So leave your recyclables to tumble free in your recycling bin!
