25.01.2022 What the year looked like for us in Holdfast Bay.

25.01.2022 Landscaping works have been undertaken to enhance and beautify North Brighton Cemetery. Staff from council's Depot team and contractors recently laid turf and planted shrubs along the King George Avenue entrance to the cemetery, as part of the improvement works. Inside the cemetery, 47 sunken graves have been repaired to prevent safety issues and a number of footpaths have been regraded to improve the surface and reduce dust. Council allocated $40,000 in this year's budget to carry out the improvement works which will also include new bins, benches and upgraded signage.

25.01.2022 Our newest exhibition has just opened at Glenelg’s Air-Raid Shelter. Visit us this Sunday, January 17 to discover the history behind Holdfast Bay’s war memorials, including the Brighton Cement memorial - a 28-foot ionic column which stands at the junction of Brighton and Scholefield Roads. The Air-Raid Shelter is located at Rugless Avenue, next to the Glenelg Football Club. Open 1pm-3pm and entry is via a steep set of stairs.

24.01.2022 Proclamation Day was commemorated today at Glenelg North's Old Gum Tree - the site at which Governor Hindmarsh proclaimed the colony of South Australia 184 years ago, in 1836.

23.01.2022 While you’re out walking our four-legged friends, did you know that under our by-laws, it’s a requirement to have a suitable receptacle to pick up after your dog to help keep our paths and beaches clean? Luckily we provide free dog poo bags from 39 dispensers located right across the city 19 of which are along the coast path. Even better, our bags are compostable which means they can go straight into your green-lid FOGO bins at home.

This little bundle of fluff, which along with its siblings is keeping its parents busy on Seacliff beach, was pictured near the Edwards Street drain. And because the chicks are so active, the exclusion zone fence has been increased to Edwards Street and the Oleander Street pathway to the beach has been closed to the public. The chicks are expected to fledge in about 33-...37 days *Please note these photos have been taken by trained volunteers using a telephoto lens (the image has also been heavily cropped), ensuring the birds are not disturbed. The reef has already attracted marine life but will take seven to 10 years to reach maturity.... It was built by the Nature Conservancy in partnership with the South Australian Department for Environment and Water and the City of Holdfast Bay.
