22.01.2022 Did you know that December is the worst month for road trauma in Australia? Combine end of year exhaustion with the high number of drivers on unfamiliar roads, as well as a spike in drink and drug driving, and you have a recipe for potential disaster. Christmas should be a time of love and laughter, not loss of life. Remember to #ChooseRoadSafety this festive season.

21.01.2022 Residents, friends, family and visitors are invited to the City’s Australia Day Pool Party at Kalamunda Water Park with two-for-one entry from 9am to 6pm on Tuesday, 26 January. Mayor Margaret Thomas said the pool party provides a relaxed environment for people to think about the day’s meaning explaining this year’s national theme focuses on storytelling, encouraging people to reflect, respect and celebrate. I know this day means different things to different people, but... I hope the community will take the opportunity to share their stories and listen to others, Cr Thomas said. Because there’s no greater way to build understanding and empathy than by sharing our stories, we all want to be heard, to be listened to and understood. I’m so proud to live in a place that recognises and celebrates diversity, Cr Thomas said. To know we are all welcome, no matter where our stories started is something we should never take for granted. To learn more about this year’s theme including reflections from people on what it means to be Australian visit australiaday.org.au The City’s Australia Day activities, including the family-friendly pool party, is partially funded by a grant from Auspire.

17.01.2022 Christmas came early to the City of Kalamunda Libraries this year! Forrestfield Library started the party on Friday 4 Decembe...r with a visit from the Bush Fairy Christmas. Children enjoyed a fun Christmas party with the Bush Fairy; full of songs, dance, sparkles and fairy bubbles. On Monday the 7th December Santa and his Elf visited High Wycombe Library. With Christmas stories, songs and laughter, everyone enjoyed a very merry Christmas visit with Santa and Elf. The annual musical Christmas Storytime was held at Lesmurdie Library on Tuesday 8th December. The talented music students from Lesmurdie Senior High School performed Christmas carols for the Storytime children and everyone enjoyed some craft decorating. And finally on Monday 14th December, Santa Claus dropped in again at Kalamunda Library. The session began with magical storyteller Glenn Swift telling Christmas tales accompanied on the harp by Kira. Glenn had to leave early for another party, and sadly he missed Santa who walked in ringing his bell, ready to tell stories, sing carols and visit with all the children. Santa's parting message was, "Be good, be helpful and Merry Christmas!" Thank you to all who attended our special Christmas Storytime events. "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a goodbye from the Storytime Team. See you again in 2021!"
