25.01.2022 **Mount Gambier made it on to the MONOPOLY board!** Mount Gambier is featured on the custom Australian Community Relief MONOPOLY game board to unite regional communities and raise much needed funds for the Australian Red Cross. The Umpherston Sinkhole is one of 22 regional locations across Australia showcased on the board. The game has been created to highlight the community spirit and strength in regions impacted by various disasters in 2020 including bushfires, floods and ...COVID-19. I am so excited that our city has been included in the Australian version of this iconic family game, City of Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin said. This is wonderful recognition for our area, and I hope that people who play the game are interested to learn more about our beautiful city and feel compelled to come and visit. $5 per Australian Community Relief Edition MONOPOLY game and $2 from each MONOPOLY Puzzle will be donated directly to the Australian Red Cross, to further assist these areas and people in need around Australia. The game will be available for purchase at Big W, Sanity and selected local outlets.

24.01.2022 The NF McDonnell & Sons Santa’s Boulevard event will not go ahead as planned tonight, Saturday 28 November 2020 due to forecast weather conditions this evening. We are expecting rain this afternoon and evening, so we are very disappointed to have to cancel the event tonight, City of Mount Gambier Community Events Team Leader Denise Richardson said. With all the electronic equipment required for lighting and sound at the event, rain is a safety issue. The floats are also no...t designed to withstand rain as they are usually only out on display for a few hours during the usual Christmas parade down Commercial Street. More than 800 cars streamed through the Blue Lake Sports Park last night to see the static Christmas spectacle which included 15 floats, twinkling lights, decorations and Christmas music. "The positive feedback we received after the first night has been amazing, and we thank the community for coming out to see Santa’s Boulevard," Mrs Richardson said. The floats will return to the Council works depot on Commercial Street West under police escort at 1:00pm today. "Following the toy run today, the floats will travel from Blue Lake Sports Park down Jubilee Highway and on to Sutton Avenue before being returned to the depot," City of Mount Gambier Acting CEO Barbara Cernovskis said. "The community is welcome to watch the procession for a last chance look at the floats for this year, with a reminder to practise social distancing and for people to remain in their vehicles." 23.01.2022 Following the State Government decision to lift the COVID-19 six day SA lockdown early, City of Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin OAM commends the local community for adhering to the restrictions during the three day period. Our city streets were almost empty and while that seems very strange, I am so proud that our residents respected the restrictions and the advice provided to us regarding the importance of staying home and wearing masks and practising social distancing w...hen seeking medical care or shopping for food. In these uncertain times we adapt quickly and I hope everyone was able to enjoy the time to rest and relax at home and spend some time with their families. "It is a reminder that COVID-19 has not gone away and I encourage everyone to remain vigilant in practising social distancing and personal hygiene, thereby keeping our community safe." 17.01.2022 Mayoral Statement: COVID-19 SA Lockdown Following the State Government announcement today that South Australia is in full lockdown from midnight tonight for the next six days as a result of an outbreak of COVID-19 in Adelaide, I ask that our residents do not panic. Whilst this seems an extreme course of action for Mount Gambier, I fully support the State Government’s decision which is implemented with an abundance of caution to protect our community.... We have been asked to stay at home, with one person per household allowed out once per day for the purpose of medical, food and essentials only. Exercise can only be in your own home and it is essential to wear a mask or face covering outside your home and I ask that you respect these restrictions. Importantly, if you are exhibiting the slightest symptoms associated with COVID-19, please get tested immediately. We have been told this strain is extremely contagious and therefore personal hygiene and social distancing is paramount. I know six days may seem a long time, but this is an important measure to take now to stop the spread of the virus and to keep our community safe. I know this will disappoint the children in our community, but unfortunately due to these restrictions Santa will not be able to visit Mount Gambier this weekend as part of the Santa’s Boulevard event, but we will re-schedule his appearance as soon as it is safe for him to do so. In the meantime, please stay calm, stay safe, and take care of each other. I cannot stress enough the importance of following the directions provided by SA Health and the government as we work together through these unpredictable times. Please keep informed about the latest COVID-19 updates and directives at https://www.covid-19.sa.gov.au/ Lynette Martin OAM City of Mount Gambier Mayor
