18.01.2022 Congratulations to Caroline Zilinsky who was announced the winner of the 2020 Portia Geach Memorial Award Thursday evening S.H. Ervin Gallery by Fenella Kernebo...ne, Head of Curation for TEDxSydney and National Trust Board Director, valued at $30,000. Watch the announcement here bit.ly/PortiaGeach2020. Caroline's painting 'Anthea May or May Not' oil on linen is of contemporary dancer Anthea Pilko. She is now a veteran dancer whose oeuvre includes private performances for dignitaries and former Prime Ministers. Here she sits in her signature faux fur coat and Adidas slides with the chincherinchee flowers she brought for our sitting. The Award is the most prestigious art prize for portraiture by women artists in Australia. An exhibition of the finalists is held annually at the S.H. Ervin Gallery. 15.01.2022 Its not too late for Parramatta to resist the slide into a mediocrity of soulless towers. Never too late to pursue your truest, most interesting self. Elizabeth Farrelly writes. Then theres the #PowerhousemMove, which breaks apart a priceless industrial-era collection then parachutes bits of it into a billion-dollar building on a flood-prone site, destroying the lovely, Italianate Willow Grove villa and an entire heritage terrace on the way.... For half the money you could adaptively re-use the glorious [Cumberland] hospital precinct as a Museum of NSW, deploying some of the states oldest buildings to tells its remarkable stories, from the original custodians.
