12.01.2022 To enhance the 'clean and green' image of Victor Harbor and the Fleurieu Peninsula, Council made the decision to apply to the State Government to be a designated Genetically Modified (GM) free crop area. The decision was made at the Council’s 28 September ordinary meeting following a community consultation period seeking public submissions.... Understanding that there are advantages and disadvantages to GM cropping across South Australia and that one size does not fit all local government areas, the City of Victor Harbor saw remaining GM free as a significant opportunity for its community and wider region. The final decision as to whether the Council area retains a non-GM status sits with the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development. For more information visit bit.ly/CVH-GMFree

12.01.2022 This Christmas season the Victor Harbor Public Library will once again be participating in the ‘Give the Gift of Reading’ program. Grandparents for Grandchildren is a voluntary not for profit organisation formed more than 16 years ago as a result of the need for community support and advocacy for grandparents and other kinship carers who could be struggling with the emotional, financial and legal complexities of caring for their grandchildren. The Victor Harbor Public Library will be collecting the children’s books from Monday, 2 November until 12pm on Saturday, 5 December 2020. For more information bit.ly/CVHGiftReading2021

08.01.2022 With the Hooded Plover breeding season well underway Council’s Public Safety and Regulation team recently met with representatives from Bird Life Australia and Friends of the Hooded Plover Fleurieu Peninsula to gain expert insight into these elusive birds. The training took place at Encounter Bay at a nesting site called Yilki where a pair of Hoodies are incubating eggs that are due to hatch around November 12.... ? To help give the Hoodie Plover the safest start in life, Council inspectors regularly monitor the nest sites and once the chicks hatch will move the fenced area to represent their movement habits. Hoodie chicks will go outside the fenced area towards the shoreline to feed, so please help us to help them by ensuring you do not enter the fenced area and be careful of where both yourself and your dog step. For more information on our local Hooded Plover visit bit.ly/CVHHoodies Taken by BirdLife Australia's Emma Stephens This project is supported by Green Adelaide, through funding from the Landscape Levy, the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program and BirdLife Australia.
